being in the heated rivalry fandom rn is like witnessing the olympics of gay fan fiction. authors who have been training for years in their respective fandoms all coming together to contribute some of the best work i’ve ever seen to this beautiful show. what a joy, what a privilege

i was making a bunch of shane gifs and i kept getting fixated on how heart-in-throat, gut-wrenchingly gorgeous he is in this shot so i thought it deserved its own post 😌

Connor and Hudson's acting conveys a realness that I can't remember seeing in any other tv show. Connor rubbing his nose, and sniffling. Hudson pulling at his eyelashes. Connor putting his hands down his pants and fiddling with his ear. Hudson dropping his shoe and picking lint off Connor's chest. Noses bumping, ugly faces, kisses getting cut off or missing their mark. I'm sure there are other examples. This all would have impressed me anyway but it's especially impressive to me that it was allowed in Heated Rivalry specifically, a smutty romance that is supposed to be, well, smutty and romantic. I think most directors would consider moments of realism like this at odds with both sexiness and romance, and yet Tierney included it. This actually ends up adding to the sexiness and romance rather than taking away from it, because it prevents it from feeling artificial like most sex and romance in tv do.
