Sorry to be a "let people enjoy things" guy but is this not a bizarrely corny way to talk about art?
like yeah i have encountered people online who think their ocs who exist in a contextless bubble deserve the same reverence as fully realized characters, and that mentality is annoying, but i don't actually think the end goal of all art is to became a webcomic, i think it's a perfectly fine if people want to flex their creative muscle by creating funky character designs with wacky backstories just for the joy of creation itself, like you don't have to be personally invested in it, but it's a bizarre way to moralize art especially coming from a group of people who otherwise seem to be against that?
Also, you wanna know who make OCs that they then get to play around with and enjoy their own existence without engaging in deeply meaningful things about? Children. And if there's one thing children are very fucking good at, it's whimsy, creativity, and authenticity. Let adults play with their pretty toys. Maybe they're stupid toys. Maybe the knees don't bend. Maybe they're not looking to make the knees bend. Maybe they just want to have fun toys they can noodle around with. Anyway, the things these folks are saying don't even make any sense. They're self-contradictory, and are, in fact, literally creating strawmen to argue against-- they have done the traditional "I've made up a guy on the internet to be angry at." They've based it in a few observations of actual happenstance, and then extrapolated until they got someone they could mock, call inferior, and get angry about.
Also can apply to about people who think it's okay to use AI in fandom spaces. To get those accolades for creativity without ever doing the creation. To skip the fumbling around phase, the hard work phase, the mental growth from effort phase, and try to skip to the part where they're praised for the output, but never questioned about it too deeply.
Imagine believing content culture is real. To be so outward facing that you have nothing inner.
There’s a running joke, “have a bunch of cool OCs with cool ideas, cool powers, only vague ideas of backstory or even personality? Make a fighting game.”
closing statement from an article about being intersex & the possible connection of gender expression and sexuality in intersex individuals, published in The Gay Liberator, 1970s
[ID: a picture of an article that says, “Hopefully gay liberation will continue to raise confusing issues until the world at large becomes so confused and befuddled about sex and gender and all that people can finally stop worrying if "it's a boy or a girl" and get around to being free to be and to love people.” /end ID]

It was nice not having to cover them in blood and soot this time
the only reliable, effective way of "protecting children" is education. but people don't want to hear that because they don't actually care about protecting children, they care about protecting a mythologised ideal of innocence

if i could give one piece of advice to newly transitioning trans men, it's that it's 100% possible to find a community of people (including women!) who don't treat you as a threat, and the people trying to convince you otherwise are not your friends
Also, perhaps, have we considered that it's actually really bad that we treat closeted trans women (and closeted nonbinary people, and frankly cis men too) this way? Like. It's a bad thing that trans women are treated like distrustful monsters for """"being men"""" before coming out by one demographic and then are also treated like distrustful monsters after coming out for being trans by another. That's not a sign of a culture with a healthy relationship with gender in the slightest!!!
Have we considered that treating people as inherently dangerous or distrustful by virtue of their gender alone is in fact, the very gender essentialism that perpetuates radical feminism in our spaces and that is something that we should be working on stamping out?
I am genuinely sorry that people across multiple different identity lines experience this shit because no trans person should be treated like a distrustful monster just by virtue of their gender identity before or after coming out.
*extends my hand* Let's examine the ways we allow gender essentialism to invade our spaces and harm other trans people and put an end to this cycle of gender essentialist abuse together!
ngl i kinda hate the woke 2.0 and friend that's too woke "jokes" because any bigotry that is normalized enough will have you get dismissed as "the friend that's too woke" for calling it out. like i've seen people called wokescolds and shit for saying it's bad to use mental disorders as an insult. it's basically a way to tell you that it's ruining the optics to point out bigotry or to justify being bigoted since it's to the "right targets"
also it's so unfortunately ironic how racism is downplayed in these ways when the term woke is literally AAVE that got bastardized
being woke is just an aesthetic for so many people and you can really see it in their worldview
kind of a part 2 for this…
part two kinda…..
