Hey guys! Really sorry to ask this but my parents found out I was transgender and immediately cut me off of their insurance plans and took away the car I was paying them for.
I need some money to buy a used car and start paying auto insurance (I still have to make rent and other expenses) if you could donate or at least share this post I would greatly appreciate it!

Raising the barn initial thoughts
I understand Lapis not wanting to get involved. Its hard not to understand. Last time she ended up getting trapped in a mirror for thousands of years. Also it was kinda nice to see that I was right about Lapis being genuine towards Peridot. She really does care and their friendship is very real. Enough that she wants Peridot to come with her and enough that she feels conflicted about leaving when Peridot decides to stay.
But the episode also shows one of Lapis biggest flaws - she is selfish.
Her not wanting to get involved in the war and looking after herself is understandable. Hell, you can even say its healthy for her to distance herself from the situation. Especially since she is still scarred from the previous conflict. Looking after her own well-being is never a bad thing.
But the fact that Lapis immediately decides to leave and decides that Peridot is leaving too without asking her? Or the implication that Peridot doesn’t feel comfortable enough to tell Lapis what she is feeling/thinking and lets Lapis make all the decisions? Or the fact that Lapis basically steals the barn?
None of those are ok.
I did like how Peri was written though. Less like the ridiculous comic relief and more like the Peri we met in the beginning with a lot of emotional growth.
Its interesting that this episode came right after the one where Connie and Steven essentially has a breakup (for lack of a better word). Not saying it might mean anything beyond subtly telling us that no one will be left unaffected from this whole mess.

The sad thing is that when a person's been in bad situations, whether or not they have any responsibility for them, it's really tempting to be selfish. It's part of the message of 'The Wall', that cutting oneself off from others to avoid pain often leads to selfish and self-destructive behaviour.
I hope Lapis learns from this, because she's hurting the people who care about her and I feel like she's doing it unconsciously.

Stumbled over some art that had Connie aligned with Bismuth due to the preview of Dewey Wins. And I just….you couldn’t have missed the point of what was happening in the preview more if you tried..
Connie was hurt that Steven was excluding her. Removing her from everything and reducing her to that girl he met all the way back in Bubble Buddies.
Connie was not saying “we need to fight, we need to be ruthless” - she was saying “you didn’t let me help, why didn’t you let me help?”
And that is a HUGE difference.
Its about the fact that Steven feels he needs to carry his mother’s burdens. Even going so far as accepting punishment for her actions. Its about the fact that Steven doesn’t realize that he doesn’t need to. Its about the fact that Steven is making other peoples decision for them, which is what Connie is reacting to.
I think that still can make Connie aligned with Bismuth depending on how you look at it.
I don’t think Bismuth required anyone to be ruthless, I think she wanted them to be smart and deliberate. She wanted the job DONE with no more suffering for her people and she didn’t see a clear path to that using Rose’s methods. She pointed out some entirely real flaws in Rose’s plan. But, Rose created a plan that involved and therefore hurt as few gems as possible.
I agree that Connie isn’t hurt for the same reasons but it’s the same problem. Connie wants Steven to be smart about what he does and to include her because she is able to help. Steven wants as few people and gems to get hurt as possible.
Sure, Connie is hurt because Steven isn’t tasting her like she is capable, but I think she’s disappointed that he went alone, without anyone else as well. She believes he shouldn’t have gone alone and especially shouldn’t have gone without her.
I understand your op, but I think there are parallels.
No offense, but I don’t think you understood my op. Because I was reacting to a specific thing about a specific thing, i.e. an artwork based on one small preview. An artwork that had Connie yelling at Steven that there’s gonna be war and basing it on the preview for Dewey Wins. Which is not only missing the point of that scene, its creating a conflict/context that does not exist. Yet.
Whether or not there’s a parallel between Bismuth and Connie or whatever reasons Bismuth/Connie had/has was NOT the point of my post. Not once did I say “there’s no parallells between Bismuth and Connie.”
It was the context of the conflict in Dewey Wins. That was not about Connie wanting Steven to fight smart. It was about the fact that he excluded her. Like I said, she wanted to help and he didn’t let her.
Again, whatever parallel you may find between Bismuth and Connie is irrelevant since it was not what my post was about. I talked about fandom taking ONE SMALL CLIP completely out of context and adding stuff that does not apply yet. And you kinda proved my point.
Bismuth was arguing the methods of a fight she was very much involved in. She was present in the war, she was active in the war and she disagreed with Rose on her methods. Connie got two missions. One that was supposed to be an easy one supervised by Pearl and another that ended with Steven shutting her out of the fight entirely. Which she is understandably is upset about.
Those two are not the same thing. The whole meta regarding Bismuth vs Connie is involving a context that a) doesn’t fully exist yet and b) definitely don’t exist in the brief clip of an upcoming episode.
There’s a difference between expanding on canon lore with meta and creating meta on something the show hasn’t shown. Certainly not enough to draw (literally) parallels as if they’re set in stone. And this fandom has a bad habit of creating context where it doesn’t exist (usually relating to Lapis).
And that was what my post was about. No need to attempt to “school” me on whatever parallells there may be between these two characters, because I wasn’t talking about that. At all. Not once did I say that there are no parallells.
Also, Connie seemed be upset that Steven was oblivious to how she felt, that he seemed to think that as long as everything worked out situationally then there would be no lasting issues. That has nothing at all to do with Bismuth and I agree totally with the OP.
This is probably a bit of a tangent as it doesnt pertain to the topic, but the Dewey Wins clip also seemed to show the other big thing that the SU fan base seems to do and that's polarise over characters. People were arguing over whether Steven was right or Connie was right and it seemed to me that the entire point was that they both were right to feel how they're feeling. Especially since Steven never really had anyone to teach him that his actions can cause emotional damage to others.
But we can't have nuance in a show about nuance, right?

Boy, look at this image of (what is probably) Pink Diamond. Look at how utterly cruel and malevolent she looks. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that this is a flashback showing her as the Crystal Gems saw her.
But if only there was somebody who could show a different side to Pink Diamond. Somebody who loved Pink Diamond. Somebody still on Earth. Somebody who may be residing in the temple as we speak.
If only…
Really curious to find out who is telling the story that this flashback. My guess right now is Garnet, since she’s already painted PD as thus awful Gem who needed to be removed.
But, yes, imagine if we could get another perspective on PD. From someone who cares. Someone who doesn’t have the Crystal Gems Rose-colored view of things.
Its a damn shame that we don’t know anyone like that, isn’t it?
Well, until Steven works out a way to cure corrupted gems there's nothing that can really be done for the person you're discussing. And I don't think he'd be able to unless he finds out how it originally works or gets a big power-up
