So I saw a photo of this hexagon tile floor . . .
The blurb said the shot was taken in Granada, Spain, by Agneta Fondén. No other info, so I have no idea how old, etc. There's a game (from 1988) that uses a similar pattern on one of its pieces, but this could predate it by at least a thousand years — or not. But the pattern intrigued me, so I made a texture map and used Blender's geometry nodes (no generative AI) to set up a hexagon grid with random rotations for the tiles:
That's all done with a single design:
You'd think this would have a name, right? (For its historical use as an architectural / decor tile — although I've found out more about its use in games, that's not what I'm looking for.) Like the Penroses do (and no, it's not one of those). But I've had no luck finding it, or any other info. Any (human only, please) help?
Crossposted to Pillowfort and Dreamwidth.
ice water is awesome because you get more water in your water
you think youre out of water but then you check back in five minutes and woah! theres more water! the world is so beautiful
This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
My absurd personal theory about why yawns are contagious: nothing to do with “social bonding.” It’s a last-ditch mechanism for knackered caretakers to hypnotise their (still active) dependents into feeling sleepy.
If you’re nodding off, out of control, tired beyond your ability to provide care, but still need to actively supervise someone who is EMPHATICALLY NOT SLEEPY, you have one final spell to draw on. Spell of Contagious Sleep Trigger.
I admittedly wrote this - not from a scientific perspective, pondering upon mirror neurons and social behaviour - but from the position of a parent on very little sleep, so the citation here is going to be “truth passed to me through the thin veil by ancestors”. If you wish to test this scientifically - and why not! - please do cite them. I’m very tired
Citation needed (yawning too much to find sources) but if this post got you to yawn, then we are clearly kin, and we are working together to create a sleepy spell over

Actually, does anyone even remember Screen Beans? Their heyday was way before most families even had a computer at home. I wouldn’t know about them myself had I not been the world’s first iPad baby (my parents used to plop me in front of my dad’s work PC to have some peace and quiet when I was a toddler).
OK so basically a looooong time ago, back when websites took ten minutes to load IF you were lucky and online stock image banks were just a pipe dream, if you wanted your PowerPoint presentation to have pictures in it but didn’t want to buy a novelty 1000+ ClipArt JPGs CD-ROM, you had to choose between a picture of a lion, a picture of a magician and about 15 pictures of the Addisons from Deltarune getting themselves in vaguely office work-related activities.
Like, very very vaguely.
when you say something awkward and stupid in a social situation that probably no one will remember except you for the rest of time
CHOMP!!!!!!
Someone linked me this beautiful poster, and I'm just really impressed.
My contribution:
I always say that the thing which sets Sargent apart as a portrait artist is that he draws/paints literally every subject - no matter their gender, social position, life vs representational drawing etc - like he is right that minute realising he's desperately in love with them. And it rules every single time.
Examples pulled just from his Wikipedia page most popular works. Absolutely devastating scenes for bisexuals for over a century
Don't forget the ALLIGATORS. He loves them too.
it's summer which means i am constantly asking myself questions such as "who is on my hockey team" and "is that a good idea"
this video...every time i think no way. he doesn't have enough time. phil please, you're killing me. and then he makes it
