i'm still conflicted on what message doctor who was trying to send tonight? what's the point of it?

there's a species who were living on their planet happily until the corporation invaded, decimated their entire planet, and plunder its resource for something stupid. the species then become international pariahs who are despised for no reason, despite having lost everything. so two of the species decides to punish everyone who glorifies their suffering and publicly show what the corporation has been doing by potentially killing millions. the doctor then says hes "triggered" because his own people were killed and planet was destroyed, and that's why he decided to torture the oppressed person who wanted revenge, and completely threaten and diminish everything he stood for, as well? and then in the end, one of the threatened people sing and all is well in the world?

if you are oppressed and hated worldwide for existing, you must not take revenge, you must not tell anyone about what the coloniser did, you must sing your song and hope that everyone understands and cries! cos that works every time! if you dare to do anything, then you will be tortured.

the epitome of white centrist bullshit. i'm not saying the doctor should have advocated for 3 million peoples deaths (although, i won't go into my monologue about independence being violent BECAUSE colonialism is violent, i'm algerian, i don't need the lecture ta), but why have this fucking story in the first place? it could have been done in such a different way?

and if we're relating to palestine and israel (bc eurovision) then i'm even more confused at the message its sending. cos in this scenario, it'd be the doctor torturing a palestinian? what? is it supposed to remind us that the doctor is a monster? out of everything, he can be kind to certain people but not others? huh? genuinely, enlighten me.

i thought about this more (it's genuinely pissed me off esp when israel gets 2nd place in EUROvision which an israeli company sponsors btw) and what they could have done. what i would have done is allow the doctor to understand that his planet was destroyed like the hellians(?) and actually find some sympathy. if they wanted to do the "time lord victorious" "the doctor is the god of death" stuff (yawn, are we still seeing this as the rtd show? i'm still annoyed that he's back and doing this random wank instead), he would have allowed the 3 million to die to make the point. if you wanted the pacifist ending, then he would have allowed cora(?) to sing and try sway their hearts that way, with a similar vibe to when the little girl was singing in the episode with the long song.

there are infinite ways they could have done this, i'm sure. but not the way they did it. pathetic.

this is really important so i’m posting it here because it’ll probably get removed and the original poster may be banned, but this is literal documentation and proof that terfs and transphobes are directly connected to the far-right and have roots in racism, homophobia, misogyny, and antisemitism. it really is all part of the same oppressive system, so there is no disconnecting transphobia from conservatism. there is no such thing as a progressive transphobe as much as they may want you to believe. it has nothing to do with biology or protecting women or children, none of it is founded in science or logic, it is purely hatred and and attempt to justify bigotry.

I got radicalized into the far-right on TikTok.  Well, technically I didn’t, but an account that I made did, and this is a graph of what that looked like.  I just published this study, and I’ll link it in the comments, but I’ll also break it down right now, here.

So I wanted to examine whether or not transphobia is a gateway prejudice that leads to like, broader far-right radicalization.  It’s been pretty clear for a while now that the far-right is transphobic, but we wanted to see whether being transphobic alone was enough to lead you to the far right.

So I made a brand new TikTok account and followed 14 creators known to post transphobic content.  Then I started scrolling my ‘For You’ page, and I started exclusively engaging with transphobic content, and I documented the main narratives of the more than 400 videos recommended to me.  We also double-blind coded this, meaning that another researcher also watched every video and coded the narratives, and then if we ever disagreed, more researchers would come in and perform a tie-breaker.  Once we removed sponsored videos and videos that had been taken down before they could be double-coded, we were left with 360 videos.

Of the 360 total videos, 103 were homophobic or anti-trans, 42 were misogynistic, 29 contained racist narratives or white supremacist messaging, and 14 endorsed violence.  Obviously, TikTok didn’t just like give us neo-nazi content immediately.  I actually didn’t get my first Nazi symbol until video 141.  But the more I interacted with transphobic content, the more I was fed not only more transphobic content, but also homophobia and misogyny and racism and antisemitism.  So I didn’t actually have to interact with racist content to be fed white supremacist content, I just had to engage with transphobic content.

What you see in this graph is the TikTok algorithm starting off with a normal feed — memes, recipes, whatever — and then going “OHH, you’re transphobic!  Have you tried hating the gays?  What about women?”

So, it appears that transphobia can radicalize a TikTokker.

Around video 400, you’ll notice an interesting spike in far-right figures, hate symbols, antisemitism and calls to violence.  That’s when I reached fascist TikTok and set my phone on fire.  400 videos might sound like a lot, but if a user watches each video for an average of 20 seconds, they would end up watching 400 videos in just over 2 hours.  So, a user could basically download the app at breakfast and be fed the overtly white supremacist, neo-nazi content before lunch.

(I think it's worth saying that the study was designed to map how initial engagement with transphobic content connects via algorithms to being served overtly fascist content. It isn't quite the same as saying "this is hard proof that a given transphobic user is directly connected to an operating fascist cell" - nope, the study was simply designed to map a content pathway. In fact, it's better to understand that hateful ideologies spread in small disconnected pockets, like scattered colonies of mold, rather than a single large monster where you can whip off the mask and find just one guy to blame. Just saying this - i know you guys alreaduly get it! - because there was already one guy going off in the notes like THATS NOT WHAT THE STUDY SAYS and I'm not interested in getting that response.)
