I googled it once and the only reason why the Great Lakes aren’t called inland seas is because they are entirely freshwater, not salt.

Friendly reminder that the deadliest lake is actually Michigan, which tends to claim about half the total victims of the Great Lakes annually. In fact, Lake Michigan is considered one of the deadliest lakes in the world, and the deadliest in the US. Just because it has nice beaches and is a lake doesn't mean it's safe at all, the rip currents are quite literally killer.

While Lake Superior is infamous for the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, it doesn't kill the most people annually.
