Just a quick reminder that eyestrain and flash warnings save people's lives! They are non negotiable! An epileptic (or anyone with photophobia and photosensitivity) cannot avoid flashing or eyestrain posts if there are no warnings. Its not as simple as scrolling past it the way triggering vents are pretty simple to scroll past.

Please remember to make CLEAR flash and eyestrain warnings in your posts.

If you use a graphic that is eyestrainy (like a dni banner) consider changing it to something less eyestrain heavy!

I fear I’ve been dragged into TMA by one of my mutuals. So much so I started wheezing audibly thinking about the Tesco fruit monster and how it’d be turned into a statement. So enjoy this, I wrote it in five minutes to appease my brain itch - Mantis

I was walking gingerly through Tescos, as one does, picking up my groceries. It wasn’t particularly late, but it was one of those ones that were open 24 hours so you could say it was around 10 pm. I had just gotten off a long shift, so I was tired but nothing happened at work that’s worthy of note. I was walking back from paying for my shopping when I saw it. A large creature staring at me, its skin mottled red and orange and green. It didn’t seem to be one thing either. It seemed to be made up of multiple types of organic material. It was short, well of human height but short for a monster, with short stubby legs and monstrously long arms. It looked at me with its mouth agape, its beady eyes staring into my soul.

And idk if this is a universal experience or if it’s me being too cynical or whatever but I HATE when people run marathons with disabled people for charity because to me it feels way too much like inspiration porn and sympathy bait. Like you’re parading a person in a wheelchair around like a showpony so everyone can look at you in awe because you treated a disabled person with basic human decency. And I understand that running with a wheelchair ain’t easy I’m not saying that it just feels like an accessory to me because now you have a poster girl for your amazing achievement

So, I understand where you're coming from: the framing by media often reads as inspiration porn. But I think in your desire to respect severely disabled people, you accidentally went overboard and started denying agency instead.

The person being pushed at those footraces is there because they want to be. Most of the time its either because they are a former runner who misses it, or they're a severely disabled person who wants to share a hobby with someone they care about. It's damn near impossible to push someone 26 miles in a wheelchair when they don't want to be.

Additionally, it's actually pretty hard work and an accomplishment to be able to stay upright and get pushed in a wheelchair that far. Wheelchairs going any speed and distance are BONE SHAKING and the people getting pushed often have severe disabilities that make even something like holding your head up difficult. So they probably had to train too.

The FRAMING that the media does is ableist, its generally framed as inspiration porn and also denies the disabled person agency and there's a lot to be unpacked there, and I very much think you SHOULD be questioning motives behind everything... but please don't say the whole thing is a self serving act by the abled person when that's very much a team effort and the disabled person had to want very badly to be there.

TLDR: keep questioning motives but also consider perspective

Tw for depersonalisation and otherwise shitty stuff

I’m going to be depersonalized for weeks and begin doubting my shit now. Because I’ve been beaten up for … not being strictly medical with my system. Like I say system instead of pwCDD. Or I have my own personal terms for alter and headmate, and I really hate the term “part” and that’s why I’m depersonalized. Because that’s what people want me to be, a part, a fucking cog in a machine. They don’t care if I’m a person or not I’m just… a part. BUT GET THIS RIGHT the person who accused me of not being a real system for not fucking using medical terms for everything uses pluralkit and has a system name. Like by their logic you should just be one person with different parts. This person also has the tendency to expect you to have all the answers all the time otherwise you aren’t valid. “I’m suspecting this” and you’re met with “well you can’t have that because xyz”. Like if you’re disabled for example you have to know exactly why you’re disabled and you aren’t allowed to be a person outside of that. You aren’t allowed to exist as a system unless you’re being the fucking textbook definition. They’ve basically called me an Endo for existing outside of being a system and letting my alters have their own interests - Vixxie
