Hi I’m still mad I never got the thom merrilin = merlin thing until like a week or two ago when I started reading these damn books in like 2009.

To be fair, Amyrlin = a Merlin is a lot easier to catch than Merrilin.

I'm still mad at myself for how long it took me to realize Egwene al'Vere = Guinevere

And al'Thor = Arthur

this one isn't as clear cut but Moiraine = Morgana/Morgan le Fey

And also Moridin = Mordred

There's probably more I'm missing that aren't as obvious like Gawyn = Gawain, Galad = Galahad, Morgase = Morgause, and Elayne = Elaine

I'm sure there's plenty more references to Arthurian legend across the series...

Not So Berry Yellow Gen

Here is Sola and her lovely family, her first son Ash, whose mother Elizabeth died in a tragic meteor accident before he was born and his younger brother Sterling.

Sterling's father stuck around, he is the stay at home dad while Sola is out there, searching for life beyond Earth. While Sola never got as close to her mum Briar as she was to her grandma Pepper, Pepper passed when she was a teen, leaving Sola with...not the best role model for a mum. But Brian is always there to help hold the family together.

It's not always smooth sailing, Sola's focus on exploring the stars took its toll on her relationship, Brian and her were on the brink of divorce however, a little relationship counseling and some Rocket Ship WooHoo, they were able to come back stronger than ever.

Ash and Sterling grew into two VERY different teenagers, Ash decided to follow his mother and is the intellectual route while his younger brother Sterling couldn't stay off the monkey bars and self-selected to be our Heir.

Ok I want to say something controversial

But you are responsible for your own safe spaces. You can block tags, block words, block people.

“But i thought fandom was supposed to be a safe space” —yeah you have to curate it.

Unfortunately one persons’s safe space may be another persons’ trigger. That’s ok. Simply block them, block the tag, block the word etc. They can do the same for you.

Maybe I’m just out of touch, but I’ve been around since the days of “don’t like, don’t read” and that’s a good philosophy. If it squicks you, scroll past. If it causes you anxiety or upset, block! Plenty of people are responsive if you ask them to tag an upsetting trigger. And if they’re dicks about it, block em.

Since different people have different needs, one person’s safe space will be another’s Trauma Central.

I don’t know who said it first, but “I need to be able to express my anger without shame” and “I need to be away from yelling and loud noises” are both valid needs people can have for a safe space that really aren’t compatible with each other.

So are “I need to process my trauma” and “I need to not meet any trauma.”

Or “I want a safe space to tell/read the stories that speak to me” and “those stories are distressing to me.”

Insisting that your needs are the only needs anyone should have is not a safe space, it’s its own act of violence.

You don’t get to make others homeless to make the universe your personal safe space.

Thinking about Kent from Stardew Valley, I've often wondered why basically all he talks about to you is about his trauma. Like that's fine I guess but I've casually wondered why it's pretty much the only thing he ever talks about to you.

But it just occurred to me that Sam, Vincent, and Jodi note that he doesn't tell them what's wrong. It's surprising to Jodi that he hates the sound of popcorn, Vincent and Sam both note that he's different but they don't know why, he goes to festivals even though crowds and open fields trigger him.

He's trying very badly to hide it but he needs to talk about it. And the farmer has no preexisting ideas about him. Depending on how long he's been gone this time, you may be the only person in town that didn't know him before he went to the front lines. He's trauma dumping to you and only you because he has no idea to live up to in your mind. You're a blank slate. A new relationship. He doesn't have to pretend to be strong around you. He can just be miserable in your presence and you let him and give him roasted hazelnuts sometimes and roasted hazelnuts remind him of his mom and that's basically what your relationship boils down to. You're the person that will stand next to the river with him and go "Damn dude that sucks do you want an egg"
