As a younger sister who knows this struggle all too well: THIS IS REAL. Pretty sure 70% of my past teachers still think I’m called what my sister is called in fact.

Imagine Fred being called Percy by McGonagall accidentally and then he gets so offended that he refers to her by “Professor [insert any other name but McGonagall” for the rest of the year, costing Gryffindor a considerable amount of points one at a time.

From then on, she vows to just call them all Mr Weasley.

Until Ginny comes along and she calls her Mr Weasley by accident and Ginny “accidentally’ calls her Sir and it starts again.

It’s lightly off-topic but also slightly relevant but I have long cherished this mental image of Professor Snape saying something snappish to Harry in just the wrong tone of voice and Harry absentmindedly, wearily, and completely accidentally responding with, “Yes, Aunt Petunia.”

Okay, okay, okay, this is probably deeply off-track, but all I can think of is Harry––who upon learning that Snape, of all people, his pain in the neck potions professor knows his aunt––has now received what can only be called a psychic punch to balls. 

How, how, how, is a teenage boy supposed to rectify this, mentally? Connect these strange unjoined worlds to somehow explain that Snape––Snape!––knows his Aunt Petunia?

“It doesn’t make any sense, mate,” Harry tells Ron, blearily, desperately wishing at age thirteen years that his butter beer was a real beer. “It just––it can’t be. Why would he know Aunt Petunia?” Ron grimaces. “Why would he want to? I mean, I know he’s Snape, and all that, but––”

Harry writes his only letter back to #4 Privet Drive, dotted with tears, and it has one line: How do you know Severus Snape?

Petunia writes back: DO NOT MENTION THAT MAN EVER AGAIN. 

And this. This. Sparks a light in Harry’s head. This is the same way Petunia talks about celebrities who have deeply, personally offended her. Usually when she fancied them and then they got married. It’s so completely clear to him, now: Snape is deeply, irrevocably, utterly in love with Aunt Petunia.

Romione Fanfiction Recommendations

In no particular order.

1. The Time in Between - Its 46 chapters long and it is about their missing moments in DH and their life after the war. This is my personal favourite! It is so engaging and well-written that the length of it does not matter. I do believe that the writer fully understands Ron and Hermione as individuals and respects them as characters. Their passion and love is so perfectly conveyed and it is the fan fiction that keeps on giving. I promise that if you adore Romione you will love this fan fiction, it is worth the read!

2. Sharing Sleep - Missing moments where Ron and Hermione sleep next to each other. The fan fiction is written in a slow pace and takes the time to set the atmosphere of the room as well as the emotions and thoughts of the characters. It is very cute as it focuses on them when they were on their first year to the end of the war. It is so romantic and cute, but there are many moments with angst, especially when the war begins. It is also one of those fan fictions that respect the characters - which is very hard to do.

3. Cuddlesome Catastrophe - Ron and Crookshanks hostile relationship keeps on thriving until they switch bodies. While Ron and Crookshanks are desperate to switch back, Ron can’t help but guiltily enjoy the soft cuddles from Hermione and sleeping with her in her dorm. I consider this story as a guilty-pleasure, because it is so unbelievable. It is pretty funny because of the plot and also because Ron and Crookshanks are forced to act normal. The relationship between Ron and Hermione is very cute as well.

4. A Quiet Night - Fluffy Smut = 10/10. It takes place after the war and Ron and Hermione’s plans to get her parents back. Heaps of kisses, cuddles, sweet words and smut. There’s something so heartwarming about this fanfic that draws you in and begs you to re-read it. Their relationship is so lovingly written and it is so healthy without the unnecessary drama of cheating or manipulation. This author is one of my faves.

5. Avenging The Past - Ron and Hermione are happily married, with toddler Rose and with the pregnancy of Hugo. Their happiness banishes when Death Eaters kidnap Rose as a form of revenge for the couple. This fan fiction is filtered with grief, heartbreak and tears. While the fan fiction focuses on the kidnapping of Rose, it examines the grief and trauma that haunts the couple. It is the saddest and most depressing but their marriage and their love for their family is so beautifully written. 

6. Waiting for the Rose to Bloom - I just have an obsession with pregnant Romione for some reason. It is about their pregnancy with Rose and Hugo and it is so cute. The fanfiction has heavy themes such as depression and miscarriages. It is a little sad at times since they do struggle at some points in their relationship. Despite all this, it is worth the read as it is a very sweet fanfic. I adore the Granger-Weasley family.

7. Baby Makes Three - Look, if you are pregnant or are planning on having kids, this is definitely the fanfic for you. It is pretty long and it describes Hermione’s pregnancy in extreme detail. So there is quite a lot that you will learn from. I really enjoyed the relationship here and it is very true to the characters. It is so nice to read a fanfic where it shows Ron’s love for children and excitement to become a father.

8. Hey Jealousy - This is another guilty pleasure fanfic. Hermione gets jealous when Ron starts training an Auror. It is a little dramatic as Hermione is paranoid that Ron may fall in love with someone else. But hey, it has a feisty Hermione, it acknowledges that Ron is a handsome and desirable man, and it even has a physical fight. So bring your popcorn for this one. 

9. 31 Weeks - Ron goes on an Auror mission for eight months straight! What do normal couples do when they finally meet up again? Jump on the bed and break it. So, you can kinda imagine where this will go. Have fun guys!

10. Of Holiday and Heartbeats - This is the same author from A Quiet Night. It has a good balance of smut and fluff, so the best of both worlds! It mainly takes place after the war and Hermione’s return to Hogwarts. It is pretty sweet and the writing is lovely. There are many emotional moments like A Quiet Night. So they are pretty similar.

He surged forward and kissed Ron, without any doubt or hesitation, putting all he had into the kiss, hoping it was enough.

Ron wanted to melt into the kiss, but pulled away, taking the sword and thrusting it forcefully into the locket that was still droning on until the metal hit. He fell to the ground, soaking, and felt Harry fall to the ground beside him, and they turned to one another, not saying anything, just staring into each other’s eyes.

“Finally,” Hermione said, but neither boy heard her.

Oops, my hand slipped and this happened. A quick drabble, in which Harry and Hermione stay for the last quidditch match in OotP. (First three paragraphs from OotP for framing.) I blame @vivithefolle for giving me Rarry on the brain.

“And they’re off!” said Lee. “And Davies takes the Quaffle immediately, Ravenclaw Captain Davies with the Quaffle, he dodges Johnson, he dodges Bell, he dodges Spinnet as well…  He’s going straight for goal! He’s going to shoot — and — and —” Lee swore very loudly. “And he’s scored.”

Harry and Hermione groaned with the rest of the Gryffindors. Predictably, horribly, the Slytherins on the other side of the stands began to sing:

Weasley cannot save a thing, He cannot block a single ring …

Harry wanted to cover his ears. He couldn’t watch, but he couldn’t look away either, as Katie lost the Quaffle to Bradley, who charged back up the pitch, going for the left hoop, and Ron lunged to the right. Harry very nearly groaned—until he saw too late what Ron had seen in the nick of time, the shift in Bradley’s direction to shoot into the right hoop and directly into Ron’s hands. Harry barely had time to register the save before he was on his feet, screaming, but half of Gryffindor was on their feet with him; the other half hadn’t had a chance to register what had happened before Alicia was charging toward the other end of the pitch.

I don’t read a lot of fanfiction (and the Harry x Ron ship is so tiny compared to others, so there aren’t many fanfics to choose from anyway), but here you go! 

‘Wildflowersand soft laughter’ by Cookies and Ink. Ron decides to finally confront thestranger who’d been stealing wildflowers from their front garden every weekend.He also manages to repeatedly embarrass himself in the process. Rated T.

‘Wedding Favours’by Cookies and Ink. Harry had agreed to be Ginny’s fake boyfriend for awedding, to keep her Mum off her back. He hadn’t expected to find someone he’dfall head over heels for there. Rated T.

Basically, check outeverything by Cookiesand Ink. They write so much Rarry/Harron fanfiction (often AU stuff, aswell as halfway-canon stuff).

‘Engaged’ by I’mdeadsothere.All around Harry everyone is getting engaged, leaving Harry to wonder if he’llever have the same honor. Especially when the one person he truly loves, well,it’s complicated. Rated T. Contains strong language.

‘Beds’ by I’mdeadsothere.Now that the war is over Harry treats himself by buying a nice big fluffy bed.Only it’s too nice, too fluffy, and WAY too big. Ron has the perfect solution,but it’ll change a lot more than just how Harry feels about his bed. Rated T.Contains strong language. (This one also has Hermione ‘biggest Rarry shipper onthe planet’ Granger involved, so that’s a plus).

Swollen Lips and Mistaken Intentions by Adjuel: Ron finally gets up the courage to tell Harry how he really feels. Now all he has to do is wait for Harry to come home… from his date… with a witch, a.k.a. a female. Yeah, life sucked. Our boys are rather emotional in this one and they tear up easily. But I don’t care because I’m a sucker for angst and tears and Ron is adorable.

About How I Loved You by SazMuffin: Harry’s in a comaaaa! … or not because he just woke up and Ron is there. Cue shippiness. :D

The Thrill of the Chase, Etcetera by tout-a-coup: Harry is going to seduce Ron.  Even if it kills him. A personal favourite of mine. It’ll have you roll on the floor with laughter. Plus, Ron is adorable.

Spiders by loonyluna9: When Harry played a prank on Ron by enlarging a spider, and it chased after him, he hadn’t expected Ron to jump into his arms. He hadn’t expected himself to catch him either. Or the following awkwardness. Or the part where they leaned in. Or when they… Harry’s a little bit of an ass to do that, but hey, we get Harron out of it so we can’t complain.

Friendship and Love by Guardian of Jupiter: Sometimes even if you don’t know it, love is always there. It takes something to make you realize it. The writing is a little wonky and clunky at times but it’s still a lovely story, with an absolutely perfect Ron to boot.

Harry’s Pet by earth-dragon-1: Mature! Ron’s as cuddly as a little ol’ kitten. Really. Ooooh how I love this one, it’s so perfectly written and the comparisons are so wonderful. There isn’t true smut, I promise, but I’ll tag it anyway.

Other Waters by Mad Maudlin: Mature! Three years after the way, Harry’s life is no like he expected it to be. Then a face from the past changes everything. A fanfic that deals with trauma and torture and its aftermath. Be forewarned. It’s beautiful still.

What Ron Did by Flaminia Grisandole: Mature! Harry can’t understand why Ron isn’t receiving the credit he deserves. Oh, oh, oh my stars I love this one. I even forgive Harry’s perverse little mind and his smutty slip-up in the middle I love it so much. AU of Deathly Hallows.
