humans just arent that differently-sized or -shaped, as a species. we have almost no sexual dimorphism at all compared to the vast majority of other mammals.

Ohmygosh a mention yes hi. There is a lot wrong with trying to force transfems to come out by forcing their eggs open instead of letting them crack on their own, and by spreading antimasculine rhetoric that harms not only men and other masculine people, but as a butch trans woman it is very harmful. For a long time I felt like I had to conform to femininity and keep my hair long and wear dresses and skirts and use makeup and like all the things that other binary perisex femme trans women had to like and it wasn't me. By perpetuating this rhetoric not only are you disuading people who may want to come out as trans women but are too put off by antimasculine rhetoric in queer spaces, but you're also harming women (cis, trans, intersex, and whatever else have you) who don't conform to femininity and still like to embrace some masculinity like me. I may be voice training and on E, but I have short hair by choice and dress masc or neutral most days. I would rather wear a sleek suit than a frilly dress any day, but I don't diss the gals who like that, I just wish I wouldn't be subject to their ire either by just being myself. We need to make a world where the gender of anyone is cherished and appreciated. People should be just for their character, not their identity.

The argument that being intersex is a “biological mistake” or that nature made a mistake or that mutations are genetic mistakes or whatever is so incredibly stupid if you actually understand how evolution works. Aside from the fact that trying to use the appeal to nature fallacy about a natural event or process is incredibly stupid, mutations are supposed to happen. If we’re personifying nature here, nature wants them to happen. Mutation is what allows for evolution to happen. Yes, mutations can have negative consequences (or no consequences at all, or a mix of positive and negative consequences: for instance, the gene that causes sickle cell anemia is protective against malaria when a person is heterozygous for it. Yes, there are things that having CAIS increases my risk for, but I also am naturally less likely to get acne, for instance) but that’s what’s supposed to happen, evolutionarily speaking, because evolution is just about throwing mutations at the wall randomly and seeing what sticks. The generic mutation that causes my intersex variation is a result of the most natural process there is. And also, mutations are what cause genetic diversity, which is incredibly important for the health of a population. People being intersex is nature working as intended.

Thinking today about Breonna Taylor, who was barely six months younger than me when she was killed during a botched no-knock raid by police. Breonna's situation really shook me because of how close she was to me in age, because of the way she died and how quick people were to excuse her murder, and it made her stand out in the sea of black bodies I was drowning in during a time when it felt like every couple hours there was a new report of somebody who looks just like me and mine dying for no good reason at the hands of police and vigilantes.

Local to me, just a few weeks ago, a black man experiencing a severe mental health crisis was killed by police who responded to a welfare check after he resisted being institutionalized by the social workers who came along. It is during times like these that it really does feel hopeless, like no matter what we do or how much progress we make we will never be valued enough to be seen as worthy of compassion.

I think the reason a lot of leftists struggle with disability justice is that they haven't moved past the concept that discrimination isn't bad because it's objectively "wrong." yes, sexists are objectively wrong when they try to claim women are dumber than men. yes, antisemites are objectively wrong that jewish people are inherently greedy and run the state. yes, racists are wrong when they try to claim that white people are the superior race. and so on.

but then with disabled people, there are a lot of objective truths to the discrimination we face. people with IDs/LDs do fall behind and struggle with certain concepts. physically disabled people are often weaker and less capable of performing demanding tasks than able bodied people. many of us with mental illnesses are more reckless and less responsible. a lot of us are dependent on others and do not contribute much "worth".

and guess what? disabled people still deserve a place in the world. disabled people still deserve the supports they need. because they are people, and that should be enough to support them and believe they deserve a place at the table.

if your only rebuttal against discrimination is its objective inaccuracies, you are meeting bigots where they are at. you are validating the very concept that if and when people are truly incapable of being equal to the majority, that means they are worth less. this causes some leftists to then try to deny the objective realities of disabled people and/or become ableist themselves.

your rallying behind marginalized groups should start and end with the fact that people are completely worthy of life and equity, because they are fellow human beings and that should, frankly, be enough.

the survivorship bias for trans men is so horrific to me when i actually sit down to think about it. its actually Not Surprising that the majority of the voice for trans mascs come from white educated people with supportive families and/or communities. because the trans mascs who dont have that tend to detransition to finally access resources or just fucking kill themselves. the poverty rates for trans men and the homelessness and the medical abuse and the vilification of masculinity in queer communities and the violent transphobia from transphobes and the Everything all compound together to make sure the only men that survive to talk about their experiences are the men who had it easy. and then queer people have the GALL to say “trans men have it easy because theyre men” like there isnt a pile of underprivileged dead bodies laying behind the most privileged trans men in the community who get to speak for all of us and loudly agree “of course trans men have it easy, havent you seen how easy I had it?”

I also want to add; for those of us that *have* survived in spite of having the odds against us - we make folks uncomfortable because we don’t fit their narrative and get shut down and are expected to shut up.

I’m in my 40s. Trans, gay, disabled, and biracial. I am a statistic; been homeless, experienced DV and SA multiple times, have experienced exploitation, have had zero family support and been on my own for 25 years, etc.

But I’m expected to just… be happy I survived? And be quiet? Or I have even heard ‘don’t talk about the bad stuff that’s so negative and will scare younger trans people’. Usually from other trans folks, and even other trans men, which is fucking *wild* to me. I was expecting cis folks to be off put but my own community? Goddamn.

I guess we need to bubble wrap the trans experience so no one knows about the sharp edges until they’re already sliced open. 🙄 That certainly isn’t making things harder for trans men at all either. /s

it reminds me of that one article that came out last year (?) that said the trans men who show up to gender clinics to start HRT are younger (on average) than the trans women who show up, and the headline/conclusion reached by this data (which... for data like that especially, you should NOT be jumping to conclusions without further examining the causes for the correlation going on, and the journalist covering this article in particular basically just decided that their take was the correct interpretation of what this data meant. which is simply bad science) was essentially that this evidence supported the claim that trans men are privileged, as it showed that trans women take longer to come out, due to feeling less safe to come out and having fewer access to resources. and my initial reaction to that was "idk, typically when a population seems to consist predominantly of younger individuals, that usually means they're not living long enough to reach old age and they're mostly dying young".

data is only one piece of the puzzle. the way that data gets interpreted can tell dramatically different stories. and the way people choose to interpret the same data can tell you a lot about that person's individual biases.

there is a reason why science doesn't jump to conclusions when we find a new protein or some correlation between two variables; we need more testing to confirm the hypotheses we have. it could be that trans men have more access to resources at younger ages, but then why is this only a recent phenomenon? even as little as 2 decades ago, the relative rate of trans men showing up at gender clinics was close to zero (or literally zero, for some years)

is it the case that trans men feel "more accepted"? then how come this is only recently the case? and how come there aren't tons of older trans men as well, shouldn't they be coming forth given that they hadn't shown up in previous years? where're the guys from the 90s and 00s who didn't show up to clinics? is it the case that trans men feel their dysphoria is more unbearable at an earlier age? then what about all of those who don't transition at a younger age? how come they exist? if trans men were less hated by society at large, then why wouldn't we see trans men of all ages represented in the data? and why wouldn't we see younger trans women in that case, actually? since the lowered acceptance would probably mean they're less likely to make it to old age than trans men?

my point being: there are ways of bending the data to all sorts of conclusions to fit whatever narrative you want, honestly. and because people are stuck on the oppression olympics, they pick their favorite side to root for, except this form of rooting is vehemently claiming they're the victimiest victim that ever victimed, and that everybody hates them, and that nobody has ever suffered as badly as they have, it's the worst suffering, the worst i tell ya, the world has never seen a suffering like that--
