Cis people /need/ to make noise. Express distress that transphobia has gone this far. No matter your stance on trans people even, this is sexual harassment and a violation of anyones body if she gets to post unconsentual photos of someones genitals and nothing is said.

Teeth dissolve. Quickly. There's a mention of someone losing 8 teeth in two years

im not reading the whole article now (headache -_-), but later on the author of the article says about 30 million people (employed in agriculture) are at risk for extreme dental health problems. 30 million people at risk of not being able to eat solid food. 30 million people at risk of not being able to find work. being able to marry. being able to be part of their community. being able to speak clearly

i think it’s a good idea to make a separate individual post that isn’t a bunch of paragraphs but yeah basically my situation is: ive lived under a slumlord for years, he filed to evict me and my disabled mom who I take care of after we tested for mold and every room tested positive, he was convinced by legal aid to drop the eviction and give us until the end of the month to leave and we both have apartments in different cities lined up but not nearly enough money to cover the costs of moving including: rent and down payments, rental trucks and gas. (Also just other costs of living at the same time). I've known a number of non binary people in my life and I think single biggest conclusion I can draw from that is that non binary people are not the same. Like if Men fit in box A and women fit in box B, people really, really want nonbinary people to fit in a theoretical box C, and it just doesn't work like that. They are outside the boxes. They defy any simple categorization because they are not a third way of being, but every other possible way of being.

Being supportive of binary people is relatively simple, they have decided to sort themselves into one of the boxes that we have lots of experience interacting with. Being supportive of nonbinary people can be comparatively tricky, because you have to resist the urge to create box C and drop them all there. That's how we end up with various prejudices like "woman lite". Humans really, really like to categorize things. It helps us think. Unfortunately, sometimes it helps us think wrong.

If you have a non binary person in your life, I think it is important to take the extra effort to learn about them specifically.

apparently a transfem student at a Florida university was tased, pepper sprayed, and arrested by a police officer under the justification of the Baker Act (forced institutionalization). the vast majority of articles on this right now are implicitly or explicitly mocking her for having a "tantrum" and so i do not know the extent of the actual situation but i wanted to make people aware.

The encounter took place in 2025 after the University of Central Florida police responded to a report involving a possible vehicle theft. Although Jarrett Preston Vick, who reportedly uses she/her pronouns, was not accused of stealing a vehicle, she became involved in the police interaction and grew visibly distressed after officers referred to her using male pronouns. In the footage, shared by Inside The Blue TV on YouTube, Vick repeatedly asked officers to address her correctly, saying, “She! She! Just say the right pronoun.” “Josh, can you please just tell them to use the right pronouns? Please. You know, it’s causing me a lot of distress.” Josh, identified as a university employee who briefly appeared in the clip, attempted to calm the situation as the exchange continued. At another point, Vick shouted, “Why do you let those kids get away with this? They are not supposed to be here.” One responding officer warned that if Jarrett did not lower her voice, she could be placed in handcuffs and taken for evaluation under Florida’s Baker Act. The confrontation continued to escalate before officers ultimately detained and handcuffed Vick. Notably, her arrest records list her as male. According to court records, the confrontation resulted in her being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a third-degree felony, along with misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct. She formally pleaded not guilty to all charges on March 27, 2025. Bodycam shows UCF student repeatedly screaming “Don’t say him! trans people's distress is always treated as a combination of male violence and female hysteria. this is patriarchal state violence in action. people fixate on the trans person's "unreasonable" distress and not that the officer was actively continuing to fuck with her until she lashed out.

i hope she's okay & if anyone is able to find ways to support her socially or financially, or any better information, please share. this happened in 2025 but the video is going viral now because it was posted on Youtube, and the criminal case is ongoing.

When does the anger stop? When did you learn to read how queer people have been treated without wanting revenge? I still want revenge

I don't know that it does. I wish I had a more comforting answer, but anything else would be a lie. There are genuinely parts of queer history that I avoid learning about because I know how much anger and grief it will awaken within me.

My editor has taken me aside before and told me that I have been writing too many articles with sad endings and I need to remind myself of the beauty in queer history. In that act of care, I think there is an answer for you. It isn't about stopping -- it's about balancing it.

I have these waves of hurt that hit me when I think of certain stories, and I believe a part of my role in the queer community is feeling those feelings fully. Wanting revenge, mourning, even hating, for the people who didn't have a chance to defend themselves, for the people who were so sure that they were wrong that they never even considered protecting themselves.

But there were also people who were happy. There were happy moments in the tragedy, and there is always love braided into these stories. I guess my advice is to let the anger unlock the other emotions. If you love them enough to be angry for the hurt they endured, you love them enough to be happy for their successes, to see the beauty mixed in with all the ugly.
