Back here..
I'm back to where a lot of things started and fell apart. It feels very strange to be back after almost 13 years. Memories of my childhood, let downs, dreams, and realities all intertwine.
and boy does it feel strange to be back here...
She walked steadily toward the sparkling lights.
He stood there with his hand extended toward her.
At the edge, they met and headed into the abyss.
The Light
People always talk about a “light at the end of the tunnel”.
Growing up, I was always looking for that light. I kept walking and walking in the hopes of getting at least a glimpse. I did everything I was told would lead me to that light. I followed all the guidelines and played by the rules.
27 years, several letdowns, plenty of rejections, and infinite disappointments later, I realize now that this light is more of a myth than a reality.
The light is something we carry within. I realize that the light is the fire we light up for ourselves and others. The light is our dreams, hopes, and ambitions.
The more we walk, the more we burn. Some of us burn more easily than others, some burn others in trying to light themselves, some choose to continue walking with a blaze, and some even walk in the darkness their whole lives.
Despite what we were told, it’s important to know that we each have our own tunnels to walk, we all carry our own fires and lights within, and it’s okay if we lose our way at some point because our tunnels are not always going to be perfectly straight. Our tunnels might turn out to be mazes, and that will only make our lights shine infinitely.
Somewhere in Between..
We’re always being told about the difficult beginnings and happy endings. On social media, newspapers, televisions, and all types of media, we’re always being bombarded with the success stories of different famous figures.
What about the struggle? What about the part where everyone struggled and continues to struggle? What about the ones who never made it past the “in-between”
I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of the journey and the different endeavors that people go through on their way to their goals, dreams, and achievements. I’ve always been a supporter of the people that never make it out to see their success, whether because of death, burnout, or any other reason that no one speaks about.
This is for all the people who are working on themselves. You are important, your struggle is valid, and always remember that the road to success is a bumpy one. It takes time and effort, but your current state is worth all the hype, support, and rewards.
Live everyday as it comes.. Learn to appreciate the smallest things in each day, and never ever get tired of trying!
“Are You Still You?”
I just came across a photograph of this question drawn on a wall: “Are you still you?”, and it prompted a discussion in my head about self-reflection.
Do you ever find yourself in a specific situation or at a certain place and think: “This isn’t who I am, or this is not where I belong?”
I have felt this several times and at different places, and I realize now that it’s very important to check in with yourself on a regular basis and ask yourself if you’re headed in the right direction… It’s important to recognize when you’re headed somewhere that will cause you to get out of touch with yourself, your values, and your system of belief, and it’s very important to catch yourself before reaching a point where you’re no longer able to recognize who you are.
It’s Not on You..
One of the things that I am currently in the process of learning is to stop blaming myself for how others feel.
I used to always feel guilty about other people’s feelings and emotions, and I would beat myself up trying to get them to feel a different way, but I have realized that the way other people feel, whether towards you or towards life in general, is on them not you!
It is not on you to try and change who you are and your system of belief or your ways of life just so someone else can feel better. Just as you’re able to adapt, they need to be able to adapt as well. Keep in mind that you don’t owe anyone anything..
So an important lesson for today is to NEVER allow anyone to make you feel bad for how they’re feeling! Again, it’s on them not on you!

Your Impact
I had always hoped that I’d be able to really leave an impact behind me wherever I went. Whether that impact takes the form of words, actions, or just a simple smile at a stranger, that would be enough for me to just keep going.
A few days ago, I got in touch with one of my old childhood friends, and after talking about where life has brought us, she ended the conversation by saying how I had left an impact on them, and that touched me so deeply because all along I had thought of that time period as my “silly childhood”. Hearing her say those words meant a lot to me.
Fast forward to today, and the same thing was repeated by someone else saying I contacted them at the perfect timing because they really needed to hear the words I said.
At this point, I feel so blessed and lucky to have this sort of impact on people. I understand that I am not perfect, nor am I complete, but seeing others happy truly warms my heart.
The lesson for today is to never underestimate any act of kindness you do. Even if it doesn’t seem reciprocated at first, trust that life has its funny way of showing you otherwise.
Change
There are certain moments in your life when you stop and realize how much you’ve changed..
Whether to the best or worst, life changes so much within us. The realization of these changes takes us by surprise.. It finds us sitting in the corner cheering everyone else on at the party as we remember the times we used to be those same people getting cheered on and dancing our hearts out.
We can’t remember how this tremendous change took place, but we start to remember the fragmented memories of moments that took pieces of us along the way leading up to this one big moment of realization.
About Genuineness
To be genuine means that, even in the smallest things, you find yourself diving so deeply into an abyss of incomprehensible feelings and emotions.
When I think of being with someone, your face is the first thing that pops into mind, despite the numerous times I’ve attempted to take it out of my head.
Trust me, it’s not that easy to fall in love with everything so deeply. Perhaps I am chasing the feeling of comfort in knowing everything looks a hundred times better in my rose-colored imagination. Perhaps I am just doing what I do best in running full force after the unattainable, or perhaps I am purposefully hoping that these thoughts could become a reality one day.
Frankly, I don’t know what I am doing, or where this will take me, but I sure hope that I end up in the safe haven I’ve sought after my whole life.
About Growth
Had I been in this situation a year ago, I would have completely lost my mind and made highly regrettable decisions.
Looking back now, I am very proud of myself for getting to this point of realizing that I am only human. I am allowed to have days where I am not as productive as I wanted to be. I am allowed to spend a full day just laying in bed thinking or binge watching my favorite shows. I am definitely allowed to breathe, relax, and let the day just pass before I can start to function again.
Often times, we find ourselves running full force without any sense of direction. We don’t fully understand why we’re doing the things we’re doing, or whom these things will benefit, and I think it all goes back to the fact that we’ve been molded to think that unless we’re producing something daily, then we’re completely worthless.
I hope that we all reach this point of realization and self understanding, where we forgive ourselves for not being as productive or as accomplished as we had initially set out to be. I hope we realize that we’re only human after all, and humans weren’t meant to be superheroes with an overload of expectations to fulfill.
Learn to accept your days the way they are as they come and go, while wholly believing that it’s all a part of the process- the growing process that is…

2021
In the past few years, I had always found myself planning and setting perhaps some unrealistic goals for the new year, and I would always end up being so disappointed in the fact that I hadn’t accomplished much.
This year, I really want things to be different. Despite 2020 being a rollercoaster of emotions for me and everyone else, I feel like it’s still important to think of the things I’d like to accomplish in the upcoming year, and I decided that in order to actually follow through with my goals and plans, I need to set some realistic goals and publicly document them, so that I may be able to refer back to them and see how far I’d gotten.
Throughout this year, I learned that regardless of how well we may plan our lives, there are always external factors that need to be considered. If things don’t go the way we planned, it’s perfectly fine. Perhaps the road we had chosen was not the one meant for us, and this could be the universe’s way of redirecting us to the one most suitable for us.
So below, I leave a list of 10 things I really want to accomplish by the end of this upcoming year. I really hope that on December 31, 2021, I will come back to this post and cross things off with the smile of an accomplished warrior.
1. Get my master’s degree with an honor.
2. Travel around Europe and create a memory in every city
3. Learn to love and accept myself and take care of it
4. Hopefully find the right person to fall in love with.
5. Get a career in the diplomatic or humanitarian field
6. Read 50 books
7. Keep a daily journal
8. Be more socially active and widen my network
9. Learn 2 new skills
10. Post a picture everyday on social media
