Human relationships are not transactional but they are reciprocal, which I think many of you with your ‘i don’t owe anyone anything’ shtick are too happy to forget
Transactional: everything has to be exactly 50/50 all the time, pay me back for the £5 sandwich or buy me something worth exactly £5, I refuse to make an effort for you if there’s nothing in it for me
Reciprocal: you were there for me when I needed help, and I’m going to do the same for you, it doesn’t matter if one of us needs more or is capable of less, because the point is not equivalent exchange but mutual care
having a headache while hydrated is so unfair. you were supposed to protect me.
Waking up from a nap and still having a headache is so unfair. You were supposed to save me.
In tkm, after andreils done showering together (hehe) Neil tries to end the truth for truth game cus he has no more secrets and Andrews like nooo we can't end the game I still need to know every thought in your head as u should mine and you're not getting away we should merge souls
i love murderbot's constant habit of being like. what they just said was mean. not that it hurt my feelings because i don't have feelings i'm not a stupid human. but it was mean. they're mean and i hate them. but not because they're mean. just because they're stupid. but don't be mistaken. what they said was mean.
A character trait/dynamic that I'm endlessly compelled by is someone dealing with (or, like, failing to) being the child of people who were too busy being good people to have the time and attention to be good parents. This can be anywhere from 'was a public defender who gave a shit working 60 hour weeks with basically no vacations' to 'left their family behind to join the revolution/war effort and is now a universally beloved martyr-hero who saved/remade the world with their final breath' on the groundedness spectrum. The important thing is a viscerally felt but confused and ugly mess of longing, resentment, and guilt about feeling the resentment.

#the idea that someone can simultaneously be a bad parent and a good person is one that seems to escape a LOT of people#I see far too many people who insist that if someone is a bad parent they're also a bad person#because being a bad parent MAKES them a bad person#“well they never should have had kids if they were going to be bad at it!” cool cool so I don't know if you know this but#not everyone is able to see how things will play out before they happen#also someone may be a GREAT parent for one kid but a mediocre one for another kid#because (and I know this is another pretty alien idea to a lot of tumblr) everyone is different#what one child needs is not necessarily the same as what another child needs#anyway#it's much more fun to explore this concept in fiction than in reality#when it happens IRL at least one real person gets screwed over; in fiction it's an interesting story to explore
So fucking true
I know people who are great as friends for example, but they shouldn't be parents.
no but who needs ai when we have the most beautiful minds of our generation who love to yes and a bit to death on tumblr dot com
gideon: camilla understands me because her necromancer is overbearing too
camilla: i owe palamedes five bucks, these bitches ARE in love
The opposite of “the elephant in the room” is “the centipede in the room”: something that’s not actually an issue but everyone is freaking out about
at the cottage shane comes up to Ilya so much with some sort of bug or critter in his closed fist that ilya is constantly on alert when shane comes near him with a closed hand. he’s like “shane what do you have do you have a bug get away from me shane shane!!!” and shane is laughing and coming closer holding his closed hand out like “babe its fine just look.” and ilya is like “shane i am so fucking serious right now.” and shane is trying not to double over in laughter because he literally has nothing in his hand.
Wip. I think the resurrection beasts are cool.
Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
thinking about how, when adam and blue were going out, they argued because adam didn’t talk to her about things
which is exactly why blue ends up with gansey, who calls her at ungodly hours just to talk about mundane shit, and adam “i don’t want to talk” parrish ends up with ronan “the fuck would i talk about” lynch
fiction can be really dangerous there might be a deeply tragic woman in there who starts living in your head forever
