As much as I agree that abortion isn't right, I hope we can still remember that people who commit abortion sometimes are victims and we should not judge them, not even treat them with disdain.

Sometimes they are misinformed and are submerged in an environment where abortion is mostly seen as morally right so they don't realize it's wrong. The same goes for slavery, for many years in many cultures, slavery was seen as morally right or neutral, so people didn't even question it. Of course, there were (and still are) victims (slaves) and they knew it wasn't alright.

All slaves owners deserve to be judged equally? I don't think so. Sometimes they didn't know it was wrong, sometimes they knew. Do I think the same goes for abortionists? Yes. Sometimes they know it's wrong and still decide to do it or support it. Sometimes they don't know it's wrong and/or they don't question it. Sometimes even, they are forced to do it and act under fear.

Does treating them with disgust and disdain help them change their minds? Absolutely not.

can y'all imagine the fire nation soldiers' reactions if toph was sent to one of those "fully metal and inescapable" prisons in the middle of the ocean like katara and haru were on in s1e6.

Like, imagine they're like "hahaha you can't escape! There is no earth here for you to bend!" And this little 12yo blind girl starts laughing her ass off in their faces and then she just makes a fucking hole in the ground and falls through it.

The guards spend the next few hours freaking the fuck out because theres a little girl somewhere in their walls and her haunting cackles are everywhere

The situation quickly evolves into a full on haunted house horror show, with Toph sealing all the exits, changing the interior layout, isolating the guards and hunting them one by one in ways that get reported as "the walls ate him!"

When the gaang arrive looking for Toph she specifically avouds them because they'll make her stop, so they wander through the creepy aftermath, hearing stories from the 'survivors' until they reach the deepest cells where they find all the guards crammed into one, a jumble of groaning voices and limbs jutting out, some scream for help as one wall twists outward, nearly striking the gaang to throw another guard in the cell.

Toph pops out of the wall, "Oh hey guys! Didn't see you there!" with a giant, shit eating grin on her face.

That does raise the question tho: if the definition of trauma bond isn’t what many commonly think it is, is there a phrase that means “bonding over shared trauma or similar past experiences”? So that I can use that instead of incorrectly calling that connection a trauma bond

1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.

2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.

3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.

4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.

5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.

Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.

They’ve found the cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Babies who die of SIDS have a significantly lower level of an enzyme, the purpose of which is to rouse the baby from sleep if necessary (such as the baby stops breathing). This is extremely huge science and medicine news. There is a biological reason. It’s not random.

Previously, parents were told SIDS could be prevented if they took proper precautions: laying babies on their backs, not letting them overheat and keeping all toys and blankets out of the crib were a few of the most important preventative steps. So, when SIDS still occurred, parents were left with immense guilt, wondering if they could have prevented their baby’s death.

Dr. Carmel Harrington, the lead researcher for the study, was one of these parents. Her son unexpectedly and suddenly died as an infant 29 years ago. (...) Harrington explained what she was told about the cause of her child’s death. 

"Nobody could tell me. They just said it's a tragedy. But it was a tragedy that didn't sit well with my scientific brain.” 

Since then, she’s worked to find the cause of SIDS, both for herself and for the medical community as a whole. She went on to explain why this discovery is so important for parents whose babies suffered from SIDS. 

"These families can now live with the knowledge that this was not their fault," she said.

(...) As the cause is now known, researchers can turn their attention to a solution. In the next few years, those in the medical community who have studied SIDS will likely work on a screening test to identify babies who are at risk for SIDS and hopefully prevent it altogether.
