Every UK and Irish news outlet rn is opting for bullshit euphemisms like “unrest” and pussyfooting around calling what just happened in Belfast what it fucking was; a pogrom. Nazis attempted a pogrom of (primarily black African) migrants.
Let me be explicitly extremely clear: the broad majority of these Nazis are organized well connected Loyalists. The media is bothsidesing this too to sell you a lie. Irish people are often racist, but these are organized pro-British gangs who have been planning this kind of riot behaviour and practising it on innocent Irish people and non-white immigrants in the North for years. They have done this openly, inciting hate and violence with bonfires, car burnings, door knockings and targeted harrassment campaigns. They have been protected with cries of 'respecting their culture' from every level in policing and government. This is not an attempt to stoke fear, but it is a reminder that these riots are not a shock to anyone tapped into Irish politics. These are the culminations of years of racism being ratified into the culture of the North of Ireland.
Yep, and the way it's spreading is terrifying. In the whole of the UK it seems like if there is a 'newsworthy' violent crime committed by someone who isn't white, there will be riots. Violent crime by a white person? No issue at all. But every fucking time there's even the suggestion that a perpetrator is not white, riots. We're really fucked and the government isn't doing anything to help
ok but like. there are two different types of privilege. there's type a "everybody should have this, but some people don't" and type b "nobody should have this, but some people do"
there's having parents who can pay for your application to any college, and then there's having parents who can bribe your way into any college. there's owning your own home, and then there's owning 50 houses and getting rich off hoarding a vital resource. there's not fearing for your life whenever cops are around, and then there's being the cop and being allowed to murder anyone at any time.
idk i just feel like that's an important distinction to make.
The only post I want to see on Trans Day of Visibility is from cis people and it follows this formula:
Today is Trans Day of Visibility, so to celebrate I wrote to my [MP/elected representative/transphobic relative or colleague/organisation] to [demand rights for trans people as an openly cisgender person/advocate for gender-neutral language/tell them that transphobia is idiotic bigotry etc.], donated to [trans charity/political org], and then bought my trans friend [something from their online wishlist/a massage/fancy food or drink of their choice] without mentioning TDOV or politics at all.
The first part (writing to MPs etc.) is the most important one, so you can skip the other two if you're broke.

I thought we made fun of MRAs because they are misguided and misogynistic for believing that feminism is against their interests and they need a movement apart from it. I thought we made fun of them for not understanding that feminism is in favor of men's liberation from the oppressive patriarchal binary as much as women's.
But some of you are actually making fun of MRAs because you think men have no problems to complain about, and feminism ISN'T for men, because they don't need anything, and the patriarchy isn't the enemy, men are?
Oooh I don't think we've been laughing at the same thing. You have lost the plot.
I thought we made fun of people who said "not all men" in response to women discussing sexism because while they are correct that not all men [insert bad behavior here], saying so in certain conversations is just a defensive knee jerk reaction that distracts from the point.
But some of you are actually making fun of any men who ask to be taken seriously and have their needs met and issues heard, even though they aren't talking over women? Some of you are making fun of marginalized men for talking about the experiences at their unique intersections of identities and asking for justice because you actually DO think "all men [insert bad behavior here]?"
Oooooh you are failing feminism 101. You do not understand what the patriarchy even is. You do not understand where its power comes from, who benefits from it, and who is harmed by it. You have not progressed beyond "cooties" level discourse. I am not laughing with you.
This is why you sound like a clown if you call transmasculine people talking about their issues "TMRAs." If you hear men discussing the ways they are harmed by the existing system and the only thing you can think of is obnoxious MRAs, you're telling on yourself. You're broadcasting the fact that you haven't spent enough time engaging with broad feminist viewpoints to know that men's liberation ideas (NOT the same as MRA) are a part of feminism and have been for a long time.
This is why you sound like a clown if you say "trans men who want feminism to be for them are misgendering themselves" and "trans men benefit from the patriarchy because all men benefit from the patriarchy" and "trans men experience no unique injustices because misandry isn't a systemic axis of oppression" and "trans men have male privilege so they can't be oppressed."
Because even if you take "trans" out of these statements, they're still incorrect. Feminism is for people of all genders. Men can be harmed by the patriarchy. The ways in which men are harmed by the patriarchy are different from the ways others are harmed by the patriarchy. Having certain "privileges" in certain contexts doesn't negate the harm of a rigid social structure that punishes nonconformity.
Men can oppose the patriarchy because they want justice for others AND for themselves. There's nothing wrong with that. Giving them shit for talking about that is NOT helping take down the patriarchy.
The patriarchy is not a war of men against women where men are given all the advantages. That's not what feminism is up against.
The patriarchy is a system where ALL people have rigid roles imposed upon them. All else being equal, certain advantages are more likely to be given to men (or masculine people, or people AMAB, or people with male sex characteristics, depending on CONTEXT). But all else is RARELY equal and even when it is, the range of experiences is vast, and the system is rigged against almost everyone.
Because the goal most individuals have, and the right all individuals deserve, is to be themselves, and to do so by choice. And no matter who you are, the patriarchy stands in opposition to this goal. It tells you who you're allowed to be, who you're not allowed to be, what you're allowed to do, and what others are allowed to do to you. This is an injustice for people of all genders.
We're ALL trapped. This system can only be dismantled if we understand the WHOLE thing. Which means we need to listen to everyone when they talk about the harms the system is causing them, from where THEY'RE stuck in it.
How are you going to escape the torture mansion if you don't understand vast swathes of it because you've mistaken your brother for the enemy and closed your ears to him? He's shouting from the torture chamber next to yours, trying to tell you the layout of the room he sees so you can plan your escape together, and you're refusing to listen because he's been given more food and water than you? How do you not see that this attitude is only to the benefit of the torture mansion, not its victims?
tree grafting techniques
@cribins do these work? do you use any of them? is this just clickbait or?
Not only is this legit, it’s unbelievably neat and tidy! I’ve done some of the grafting techniques, but I tend to (because *gestures to self*) end up cutting my hands more than the plant material.
Grafting is really common. Most edible fruit trees, cultivated roses, some tomato plants etc are grafted onto a different rootstock as standard- you can control size that way, or make a useful but weak plant much stronger. As long as your two plants are related closely enough and you have cambium to cambium connection (cambium is the thin layer of green under the bark), you can do all sorts of weird shit - like a single tree that gives you plums, cherries, apricots, peaches and almonds.
And layering is fun! Free plants! The plant will sometimes do this itself when a branch touches the ground and starts sprouting roots.

Refer to England as “a mysterious and warlike nation off the coast of western Asia”
there's literally nothing more radical in 2026 than believing that humanity can become good news for each other and the only world we'll ever share.
My father is a classic layabout lazy bastard. He's the guy that people try to stereotype people on benefits as when they call them "dole bludgers". Sits in a filthy house all day whining that his wife won't clean it up, gets a great idea for a new business every few months and gives up after two weeks when it becomes clear that starting a business is hard, does everything he can to avoid doing a single scrap of work in life, uselessly drags his feet when the government forces him to actually do some.
Or at least, he was, until about three years ago, when he was sent off to do mandatory Work for the Dole at a volunteer organisation. He'd done a lot of Work for the Dole in the past, of course, and like most people who are forced to do a shitty job under the threat of starvation, was neither enthusiastic nor particularly useful. But in this particular place, he was given a job that he could do better than anyone else (he was one of 2 men working with a legion of elderly women, and the only person able to easily haul around the heavy goods that the organisation works with). He quickly found himself with a job he could understand, he could see the clear utility in, and that his coworkers greatly valued him for. He started arriving on time every day, putting in the effort, getting shit done. He started caring about the results. And when his Work for the Dole time was up, he kept volunteering.
He's one of two people paid to work in that warehouse now (the other person being the manager), and he's a lynchpin of activity there, their sole regular and reliable source of physical labour. When he takes holidays, they have to plan around it, because his consistent hard work has become such a critical asset to their work. And he's not taking nearly as many holidays as he should -- he works extra unpaid hours, lifts loads that are somewhat heavier than he should be lifting, shoulders the work of others when they need breaks, and we all have to urge him to take more days off for his health since he's not a young man any more. For my entire life this man has been a pile of old mud in the shape of a human, and the instant he found a job that fulfils his needs, he won't fucking stop. He's gonna die in that warehouse and die happy.

After ten years of dreaming, eight years of government support, six years of fundraising (we needed $50,000,000!), and five years of construction, the Paul Farmer Maternal Center of Excellence at Koidu Government Hospital finally saw its first patients on February 14th.
13 babies were born at the MCOE that day. Several were admitted to the NICU, the first in Sierra Leone's history. The MCOE is already radically transforming the kind of maternal and infant care available in eastern Sierra Leone.
Five thousand babies will be born at the MCOE this year. 5,000 more will be born there next year, and the year after that, and the year after that--hopefully for decades. The healthcare workforce of the entire nation will grow stronger because the MCOE is a teaching hospital training the next generation of Sierra Leonean nurses, midwives, and doctors.
The heroes of this story are those caregivers along with the Ministry of Health, PIH, and the hundreds of skilled laborers who worked together for years to build the hospital despite so many challenges. But if you're supporting this project directly or indirectly (by buying good store socks or soap), thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
