the pan label isn't valid & completely pointless

You know what? …. Tea time ☕️I don’t think I’ve ever discussed my thoughts on pansexuality on this blog, but let’s do it. It’s bisexual, y’all. Bisexuality is inclusive of all people. There is absolutely no use or need for a label like pansexual. I have a few theories as to why a person might call themselves pan instead of bi: 1) You have a fundamental misunderstanding of bisexuality (I.e. you think bisexual only refers to attraction to cis men and women) and you think “bi means two so this doesn’t include nb people”, which isn’t true.Basically, you think pansexuality is woke!bisexuality

2) If the above is true, this might be as well- you’re transphobic, and you probably don’t even realize it. You don’t see trans men and women as real men and women. You see them as separate genders.

3) You want a fancy, special orientation

4) You don’t want to label yourself bi because you’re internalizing negative stereotypes about bisexuality, I.e. we’re going through a phase, we’re attention seeking, promiscuous, more likely to cheat, etc. Or, “bi women will inevitably settle down with a man, and bi men are just closeted gay men.”

Number four was the case for me. It took me a couple years to get comfortable calling myself bi. Even after I stopped hiding my attraction to women, I didn’t “come out” or call myself bi. If people knew, it was because of my actions or context clues. My friends knew, because I would openly date women, get a girl’s number, or maybe go home with her. But I wouldn’t bring it up. I was convinced that no one would take me seriously if I just said “I’m bisexual”. I tossed around labels like pan or queer in my mind. I made hetero/homoflexible jokes when asked about my orientation. But eventually I came around and I realized how silly I was being.

So the moral of the story is -Bisexuality is inclusive of trans and non binary people

- Bisexuals aren’t confused, slutty, untrustworthy attention seekers

- the “bi” in bisexual doesn’t necessarily mean two

- in the words of anon, “the pan label isn’t valid & is completely pointless”

- you’re not pan, you’re bi

That’s a misunderstanding of what pan means, then.

Bi means two or more.

So you could be bisexual, but only attracted to women and nb peeps, for example. You could be bi and only date nb people (of various genders under the nb umbrella) but not date people who are binary genders.

Pan means you’re attracted to ALL genders. As in you don’t particularly care what gender the person is, only if you’re attracted to them.

So they’re way different.

@luci-against-exorsexism you can be straight or gay and attracted to non binary people. There is literally no way to tell if a person is non binary unless they tell you. A man who is only attracted to women and non binary people who present as female is not bisexual. Bisexuality encompasses all binary and non binary genders. Pansexuality and bisexuality are not different.

Clothes don’t inherently have gender, so a nonbinary person wearing feminine clothes isn’t “presenting female”.

What a stupid thing to say! I’m not talking about clothes, or gender conformity. I’m referring to the secondary sex characteristics which are universally recognized and associated with two binary genders.

Someone who presents as female might have female secondary sex characteristics, like breasts, and lack male secondary sex characteristics, like facial hair. There is literally no way to know a person is non binary just by looking at them.

everyone is attracted to vagina or dick. If you have one of the two, even both for some people, a bisexual person can be attracted to you because they are attracted to both SEXES of which there are two. So there is no need for pansexual.

Clothing actually is inherently gendered. “male” clothing is built for male bodies, with broader shoulders and non-defined hips. Women’s clothing has to take into account a larger bust and hips and smaller waist.

People who are against fat acceptance confuse the shit out of me.

They clearly have no clue what obesity actually looks like, they assume they know how hormonal disorders work when a lot of them don’t have it, they assume that healthy weights correlate with clothing sizes (it doesn’t and clothing sizes aren’t even consistent from store to store, and are ever shifting too), they assume that everyone can afford to eat vegan or health foods or whatever, and most important, they don’t know what fat acceptance actually is.

Fat acceptance isn’t “being complacent with being overweight”, it means you don’t shame fucking strangers over their size and make assumptions that because they’re fat that they aren’t trying to take care of themselves.

Fat acceptance is knowing the different between being fat and being obese, and not assuming because someone is a little chunky that it means they only eat McDonald’s and don’t excersize.

Fat acceptance is knowing there are three different body types and that some people are more likely to gain weight from less food and some people are less likely to gain weight from more food.

Fat acceptance isn’t shaming teenage girls for not being able to fit into a size 2 and making them think their worth correlates to their weight, making them think they have to diet before their body is even finished growing.

Fat acceptance is realizing not everyone can excersize the same amounts or the same way because of physical limits like actual disabilities.

Just admit you have no sympathy for others, and that you judge others solely on outward appearance and assumptions based on it.

Tess Holiday is actually one of the most famous spokespeople for the movement. It’s a toxic and dangerous movement, and most people promoting it are far less rational than you are. I wasn’t lumping you in with them, I was stating what the movement actually stands for.

What are your thoughts on Kanye West, a person of color who supports Trump?

The thing about Kanye West is that he has always been 100% about fame, attention and popularity. I am pretty sure that is what drives all his behaviour in the public eye. That is why he has associated himself with the Kardashian-Jenner family who are all also 100% about fame, attention and popularity. Being a POC who supports Trump is definitely more shocking and attention-grabbing which really fits into line with all his other previous behaviour. But on the other hand, the Kardashians have also described themselves as ‘fiscally conservative’ and we all know that is pretty much code for ‘I would support same-sex marriage but I also want to preserve the wealth of the top 1%’. So I can definitely see how Kanye West or anyone who is a multi-millionaire would be find themselves attracted to supporting the Republican Party. 

Kanye West has really transformed himself into a show pony within the last decade. He has said many times that he wants to be so famous that he is written down in history. I can imagine that he would sell his soul to put it figuratively to achieve that level of fame.

I believe it might be tied into his intentions to run for president (?) and we all know the Republican Party has a history of letting unqualified people who have no experience as a politician or a public servant to run for office.  

But it gets really messy when you mix in celebrities like Kanye West whose whole career and source of income revolves around being in the public eye and being entertaining. The 21st century has brought us a new wave of celebrities who are famous for making  their own personal lives a source of entertainment.

I wish there was a larger public conversation around the things Trump is actually DOING in office. Everybody is so hung up on things he said, or things he did long before he actually became the president. Policy and plans are being discussed so rarely. I don’t feel like I have much of an opinion on his presidency cause I’m just not too sure about how much good and bad stuff he’s done since he was elected.

I do not like him, I did not vote for him, I will not vote for him in the future. There are plenty of things to criticize him for. But if you’re going to criticize him, criticize him fairly and give him credit for things he does right. 

Soooooo many people are attacking him for the littlest of things that they lose all credibility in my book because now all I see is someone jumping on the band wagon, letting the media think for them, and blaming him for every issue that comes up because “I don’t like him.”
