My favorite saint is Mary Magdalene, here’s some info about her

-had seven demons cast out of her by Jesus, soon became a devoted follower and a financial supporter of him and the apostles

-considered “the apostle to the apostles”

-present at the crucifixion and burial of Jesus, was the first person to see him resurrected, was likely the one to anoint his feet while he was alive and anoint him after he died

-had her own book of the Bible that isn’t in modern texts today, not complete because of deterioration

-often forgotten or even slandered because she was a woman

-was friends with Jesus! Some people -notably gnostics- believe he shared the ultimate truth with her

-Peter was jealous of her because she was one of Jesus’s favorites while also being a woman (I’m losing track of how many times misogyny affected her legacy)

-many people use the myth of her being a former prostitute to discredit her. This is unlikely but possible, and I don’t think it should be used to devalue her

-some people also think that she and Jesus were married. They were close but there is no evidence to back this up and I don’t believe it. Men are allowed to be friends with women without being in relationships!

-overall just very cool and important 👍

Yesterday was Pentecost. Our advocate the Holy Ghost is out haunting the streets. She is anointing the heads of her apostles and they are speaking in tongues of righteous rage, of Love that refuses to look away, of compassion and protection. Christ is in the crowd, overturning tables and driving out agents of greed and evil. The young are having visions of what will happen if power is left unchecked and the old are dreaming dreams of justice.
