Toddlers are so pure. She doesn’t understand that we help her with certain things because she’s little. She thinks that everyone just helps each other like that. So she tries to blow on my food and cut it up for me and tries to help me put on my shoes.

i was giving little wagon rides to a baby around the backyard one day and all of a sudden she hops off and slaps the seat of the wagon telling me to get on because it was my turn and i was like no it’s ok im too heavy and she was like NO ITS UR TURN and kept tugging on my hand so i would sit down. eventually i got on and it was just a little 2 year old trying so hard to push me around on a wagon not understanding why it wouldn’t budge but still so determined to let me have my turn lol

I don’t think I’d realised how many casual compliments we pay to our toddler until she started casually complimenting us back, because experience has taught her that’s How Social Interaction Is Done, and there’s nothing quite like a very earnest three-year-old solemnly and sincerely informing you that you look wonderful and smell nice to make you feel really good about yourself

I tell her she’s my best girl. She tells me I’m her best auntie. Then we both feel good about the world!

Young Adult vs. New Adult

What’s the Difference, Anyway?

So many people seem to think YA and NA are the same thing, or NA is YA but with the sex. Have a bullet list from someone who’s tired of seeing them lumped into the same category.

Young Adult

the target audience is 12 to 18 years old

the protagonists are usually kiddos that still live at home and need their parents’ signatures on official documents

themes commonly work with personal relationships on an emotional level, and do a lot of coming-of-age/coming-into-ones-own-identity

sex, swearing, and violence are all watered down for a younger audience

New Adult

the target audience is 18 to 30 years old

the protagonists are of the moving-out age and can start making the big decisions on their own

themes commonly encompass the overall lifestyle shift of taking on adult responsibilities, moving away from home, and dealing with the consequences of the aforementioned big decisions

there is potential the sex, and the swearing, and the violence

These are incomplete lists, but the point is please, please, please stop equating these two different, but equally valuable, genres.

The Best Worst Phone Call

911 Operator: 911, what is your emergency? Me: There’s a guy in a car here with a lady who’s really sick in the backseat, she drank something bad, he’s trying to find a hospital so I told him I’d call 911. 911 Operator: We’re sending an ambulance to your location. Me: Also everyone around me is acting really weird, I think there might be a gas leak of some kind.  911 Operator: A gas leak? Me: I’m outside but nobody seems to know why they’re doing what they’re doing and it’s all really irrational, something’s messed up. 911 Operator: Ah, I see. Just checking here, sir, I see you’re calling from a dream phone. You’re having a dream. Me: What. 911 Operator: I recommend you wake up, it will solve all these problems for everyone. Me: But I – Me: *wakes up in bed* Me: WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT.
