fatnoirism: the intersection of bigotry, oppression and discrimination against fat and black people.
examples of fatnoirism:
• medical neglect or abuse under the guise of seeking drugs and just "needing to lose weight" and the severe lack of research of our bodies.
• the fetishization of fat black bodies (large ass and breasts being desirable) while simultaneously demonizing them with the stereotyping of fat black women as mean, aggressive, abusive and toxic in the welfare queen and mammy stereotype.
• the demonization of black cuisine such as soul food, blaming it for the "rampant obesity" in the black community.
• and much more.
submissions must have something to do with anti-blackness or fatphobia, NSFW related things are okay as long as it's purely informational and not too detailed. mod is a minor, and this blog is meant for everyone to be safe to engage and learn.

*sighs and rubs my temples* So, short response *grabs microphone* FAT DOES NOT EQUAL UNHEALTHY! IF YOU BELIEVE THIS THEN YOU HAVE FALLEN VICTIM TO PATRIARCHAL, CAPITALIST, WHITE SUPREMACIST PROPAGANDA!
Fat liberation is oddly something that is very near and dear to my heart. I say oddly because I'm skinny. Unhealthily so, actually. And not for lack of trying. My metabolism, even two kids later, is just so damn fast that I'm often underweight or a few pounds away from being so.
I am so TIRED of my body being used as the "standard of health" WHEN I'M NOT EVEN HEALTHY! I'm not healthy and it's so frustrating because I would give anything to be an extra 50 pounds and be chubby and I just fucking can't.
Let's also not forget that fatphobia and anti-black racism have a VERY intertwined history. So does fatphobia and ableism. Hell, so does fatphobia and misogyny. By upholding institutions of fatphobia you, by extension, hold up institutions of racism, ableism, and misogyny.
If being fat, genuine and actually does affect a person's health negatively then yes, of course, they should seek help and lose the weight. But being fat doesn't always do that. In fact, I'd argue that, most of the time, it doesn't.
Let's also not forget that most of the time, when people are talking about "a fat person who just needs to lose weight", they're not talking about a 500/600 lb individual or a fat person who genuinely wants to lose weight because they think it'll make them happier.
Most of the time, people are talking about a 250 lb individual who is perfectly healthy, and their doctor says they're perfectly healthy, and they just also happen to like food and snacks. It's infuriating because it really is just normalized bullying.
Sorry for the rant, Mod. 😭
Context [link]
This is fatnoirism.
I genuinely have no notes. You are completely right.
The institutions and standards in place are not promoting healthy eating, it’s promoting starving. Skinny bodies are the standard for everything BUT because they are healthy. To say “why not just promote healthy eating?” Is not only erasing the horror fat bodies have had to go through in the pursuit of being “healthy” because “healthiness” has been shoved down our throats since the moment our thighs began developing cellulite, but it also misunderstands what “healthiness” is.
I was at my healthiest at 350IBS. Im close to 6’0 and fat. I was active in the gym and ate proteins and fiber every day. But because i have a belly, because I can’t fit into anything smaller than a 2XL, I’m “unhealthy”. If we ACTUALLY cared about “promoting healthy habits and diets”, more bodies that look like mine would be represented.
Also, on the point of how fatphobia intersects with different forms of oppression, it makes the issue even MORE nuanced. “Healthy” is an incredibly white, classist and bioessentialistic ideal in this world. “Healthy” is being a perisex female with a flat stomach and visible collarbones that eats bland chicken and rice and drinks combucha and has the ability to pop out babies like a champ. Disabled women, BIWOC, gender diverse and varsex people, anyone who doesn’t have access to gyms or “healthy foods” or simply don’t have time to have “healthy habits” because of their financial situation, where they live, their home lives etc. are told its our fault that we’re “unhealthy”.
If we actually cared about “promoting healthy habits”, we would represent different bodies, represent different diets besides keto and veganism (which has a history of anti-blackness, xenophobia, indigemisia and classism), different disabled people with food restrictions or are unable to have more physical activities, etc. that are all many different ways many different people take care of their bodies.
As a black, intersex disabled woman myself, i have been shamed countless times and told I just “need to get healthy”, when there are so many different factors at play.
Im not unhealthy because i’m fat, i’m unhealthy and also fat. I was at my most unhealthy when i hyper focused on losing as much weight as possible. I was on wegovy for three years and i was miserable.
We deserve respect, we deserve accommodations, we deserve the ability to define our own “healthiness” at any size and weight.
This is indigemisia - bridging the gap in language to describe anti-indigenous oppression, colonialism and racism.
I saw that there was a lack of language aside from "anti-indigeneity" when describing the colonial forces that impact Indigenous peoples all over the globe. Indigenous struggles are erased - and glossed over. Colonialism, the genocide of Native Americans and other Indigenous people around the globe along with forced assimilation, displacement, etc. is hardly talked about anymore. This is why I'm suggesting that we use "indigemisia" to call out anti-indigeneity.
Indigemisia defines hatred/bigotry towards Indigenous peoples. So what does Indigemisia include?
Colonialism and enforcing colonial norms. (I.E. Modern colonial gender roles/identities, colonial dietary norms, modern health & beauty standards, modern colonial sex categories, etc.)
Indigenous erasure. (Bloodquantum. Telling Indigenous peoples that we are "white." Erasure of racism that an Indigenous person might face regardless of skin tone. "The Bering Land Bridge Theory." Rhetoric that states Indigenous people are not truly Indigenous to our lands due to migration thousands of years ago. "Everyone is indigenous to earth" rhetoric. Americacentrism; dismissal of Indigenous peoples around the globe such as Indigenous Europeans, Indigenous Asians along with other Indigenous groups. "Aliens built the pyramids/ancient cities" conspiracy, etc.)
Colorism and featurism. (Disparaging the appearance of Indigenous people due to 'ethnic features' that some of us may have. Rhetoric that suggests brown and dark-skinned Indigenous people are "dirty" or lesser than. Excluding dark-skinned and mixed Black Indigenous people from indigenous spaces. (This is also antiblackness.) etc.)
Cultural appropriation. (Identifying with sacred identities and names coming from Indigenous groups that you do not belong to. Claiming to have "Spirit / Totem Animals." "Transnative / Transindigenous" along with "Exonative / Exoindigenous" or any similar identification. "Smudging..." You're literally just smoke cleansing. Buying white sage from colonial retailers. Wearing our traditional clothing as a costume. etc.)
Glorification of colonialism. (Practicing/Celebrating "Thanksgiving." This is a holiday built off of the genocide of Native Americans. Listen to Natives when we say that it is to be referred to as National Day of Mourning. Celebrating "Columbus Day." It's Indigenous Peoples day. Sentiments that thank colonialism for things such as food, clothing, housing, technology, modern invention, etc.)
This is not an exhaustive list, just some examples. There are many ways that indigemisia can present.
In addition to "indigemisia," I am proposing the following to discuss the intersection of indigemisia with other forms of bigotry:
"Indigemisogyny" - The intersection of indigemisia with misogyny.
"Queerindigemisia" - The intersection of indigemisia with queermisia/"queerphobia."
"Transindigemisia" - The intersection of indigemisia with transmisia/"transphobia."
"Transindigemisogyny" - The intersection of indigemisia with transmisia/"transphobia" and misogyny.
"Interindigenism" - The intersection of indigemisia with intersexism.
"Interindigemisogyny" - The intersection of indigemisia with intersexism and misogyny.
"Indigeableism" - The intersection of indigemisia with ableism.
"Indigefetishism" - A form of anti-Indigenous discrimination that dehumanizes and treats Indigenous people as if we are merely objects of pleasure.
"Whoreindigemisia" - The intersection of puritanicalism with anti-Indigenous racism. Especially against Indigenous sex workers.
"Indigenoirism" - The intersection of antiblackness with anti-Indigenous racism. This could be used to describe racism towards Indigenous people who are mixed race Black individuals, or racism towards Black people as an Indigenous people and African Diaspora.
"Fatindigemisia" - The intersection of fatmisia and anti-Indigenous racism. (Inspired by @this-is-fatnoirism!)

Indigemisists, racists (those who are also antiblack, anti-asian, etc.), antisemites, islamomisists, zionists and anti-doikaytists will be blocked on sight. Those who support the USSR or are uncritical of Marx's history of anti-indigeneity or antisemitism will be blocked. If you try to argue with me about it, you will be blocked. Ecofascists will be blocked. Those who are anti-landback will be blocked. If you think you can identify as a race/ethnicity that is not congruent with your body or lived experience, you will be blocked.
I can and will block you for any reason. This is not an exhaustive list.

About the admin:
Hi, you can call me Doe! I am a mixed race Native Jew+ living in the south. I am intersex, intergender (interfemme), transfemme, androgynos, and indigequeer. I am not cis. You may use shi/hir pronouns when referring to me.
I am a Doikaytist and believe in Jewish "hereness" opposed to an ethnostate. Landback includes freeing Palestine.
I hope this does not come across as mean but hypothetically wouldn't it just be better for fat people to lose weight instead of telling society to normalize it? Of course everyone deserves respect including overweight people, they're no better or worse than anyone. But, wouldn't it be healthier to just lose weight? Instead of normalizing obesity, we could be more healthy and live longer.
And I know everyone's different, maybe a medical condition, or medications, or environment, but a lot of overweight people could just lose weight. So yeah I was wondering . much love!!
I'm not sure if this is fatnoirism but I know a lot of fat Black people are seen as "funny"/unserious, like they're an acceptable target to make fun of. The internet loves memes of fat Black people! But then if fatphobia and antiblackness get brought up, it's somehow "less important".
this is fatnoirism.
fat black people are often the butt of jokes and used for entertainment, whether it's because of their blackness by nonblack audiences, fatness for black audiences, or a mixture of both.
look at media like Norbit or The Nutty Professor (both, coincidentally, having Eddie Murphy as the fat characters) fatness is seen as a joke or some sort of freak show wonder. but when it's called out, it's "not that deep" and we need to "take a joke".
