im level 1 autistic, have adhd, and am physically & mentally disabled. i dont log on here a huge ton, just when i have something nonhuman to say and dont want to broadcast it to my main acc.

i am a 0-0-0 druid & 2-0-2 mermonkey from bloons td 6, as well as being a cryptid wolf thingy (hard to describe :P). i am pretty much constantly shifted to a degree.

i do not consider myself human at all. i am physically nonhuman, because i'm not human, and it's my body, so i don't see myself as having a "human body".

i've been active off and on in otherkin spaces since like 2022, but never actually had an account dedicated to my nonhumanity before.

Once again I mentioned nonhumanity on a completely unrelated Discord (this one isn't even furry so it's not even adjacent to nonhumanity in any way!) and several people chimed in out of nowhere to say, "Oh yeah, me too." None of them at all in any kind of therian/otherkin/alterhuman/nonhuman communities or anything, just people that would clock as normies about it, except nope they're not.

At this point I'm convinced the number of nonhumans outside the nonhuman communities is several orders of magnitude larger than the number of people inside and the most common way to experience it is totally casually, like an eye color. It's just another funny little thing about you, no big deal. A lot of them seem to feel that this approach makes them 'not really count' but nothing could be further from the truth. If casual nonhumanity is actually the norm like I'm starting to think, being super duper serial about it would make someone Nonhumans Georg, who spends 10000 hours a day dwelling on their identity and also they'd be an outlier who should therefore not be counted.

Except, obviously everyone counts if they say they do. But I think a lot more people could say they do without even breaking a sweat, if they wanted to.

i started being openly a therian on my bloons TD (tower defense game with anthro monkeys, so peripherally related to furries) server once a friend accidentally found this account and reassured me that it was fine and i shouldnt be ashamed. then several other people started being openly kin as well, presumably the fact that the owner was openly druid monkey fictionkin made them feel more safe. we have 3 bloons fictionkins here and a couple other miscellaneous alterhumans. and no one has ever been judgmental or weird about it. now it's bloons TD ft several therians. run by a druid/mermonkey/wolf thing who is no longer scared of people finding this account. i'm so glad i stopped being scared.

this is your sign to be more open about your otherkinity. anyone who judges or makes fun of you isn't worth your time.

A tip for excellent writing I just learned: Don't introduce a character with their Dramatic Backstory. It makes readers go "oh alright this is the Dramatic Background Story Character" and establishes a baseline of Tragic, either for the story as a whole or this character in particular. With no contrast of light and dark, pure darkness isn't impactful, it just looks like the absence of anything to look at.

If you really want someone's dramatic backstory to hit the audience like a gut punch, let them get to know the character first. That way the dark backstory doesn't come off as a description of who they are, but an explanation to why they are the way they are. Bonus points for connecting it to something that's already been established as a part of the character - what a devastating blow to suddenly put together that hold on, that funny quirky thing that they always do is a fucking trauma response.
