More work at the #ChaffeeGarden. This time we saw the watermelon was squeezing out all of the other plants, looking for a place to grow. So, we built a trellis and trained it to go vertical. My new friend at the #FortHood Family Housing #FHFH Community Garden showed up for the #garden meeting with trepidation. She tells me, 'I don't know anything about #gardening. I should have listened to my #grandmother back in the day.' A moment later, she calls to her #son, 'Don't play in the dirt.' 'It's ok, I tell her. He supposed to play in it. Besides, it's #soil, not dirt.' By the end of the day, her son is #digging in with his play shovel, picking flowers and taking names. This is why #thuggardening loves #communitygardens. The first tomatoes keep growing. The crazy thing about growing tomatoes in the late spring in central Texas is the sun.
