I mean, that IS the goal, and maybe kids now have it easier in SOME ways, but when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s you could scrape by on minimum wage on your own, and support a family of four with a single blue-collar job (like stocking groceries) that only required a high school diploma. If you wanted a college education, it was free in California until around 1970, and even after that, in-state tuition was about a tenth of what it is now. I knew people who literally paid their college tuition with a full-time summer job and working part-time during the school year.

Oh, and we DIDN’T have to have active shooter drills, so…

Overall, I think we had it a hell of a lot easier.
