It pisses me off that it's a "known fact" that you can't rely on clocks in your dreams and that time doesn't pass normally in dreams, because you may not know this about me, but dream all the time, and the clocks are always normal. Same with books. I am consistently able to read a book in a dream, note the page number, open it back to that page number, and have the text be the same. And so I'm always like, "Well, looks like the clocks and books are normal, Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre who's my best friend that I solve mysteries with at the mall that's on fire and full of snakes. I guess this is happening for real in real life, then. That's that sorted out."
Same with how you're not supposed to be able to look in the mirror. "Bad news, Leatherface. I just saw my reflection. You know what that means. We've got ten minutes to get on that rollercoaster before the guy I saw picking his nose in Whole Foods that one time activates his death ray and I'm late for work."
the things rich people associate with poverty are so fucking wild this (rich) woman my mom was talking to says in an extremely sympathetic voice "it must have been so hard for you having to share a bathroom growing up.." ?????????????
i learned of “Box beds” – cabinets with beds in them and, sometimes, lockable doors – were used for privacy and safety in parts of rural medieval Europe before individual bedrooms were common. They became fashionable even in homes with bedrooms and remained in use in Scotland into the 1900s (x)
I don’t want a swimming pool, I want a box bed/nook bed
Ohhhhhhh man this unlocks Primal Instinct

You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.
Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.
And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.
Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.
On a related note, that post also opened up the world of naps for me. I used to think that napping was mostly pointless for me, because I'm pretty much incapable of falling fully asleep in the middle of the day. But when I redefined naps to include "lying down with my eyes shut for an hour," even if I just spent the whole time brainstorming fanfiction, that was often enough to get me from "exhausted and running on 4 hours of sleep" to energized and refreshed
The post (?) as found on Reddit with bonus explanatory Reddit comment.
Sometimes the rats in my brain come together and start yelling “YEARNING” and in trying to appease them I ask “FOR WHAT” but they are too small so all they can say is “YEARNING” which is a very big word for such a tiny creature, even collectively
I loved this visual so much I had to doodle it.

Someone should probably check up on this guy
I called his house and his cat told me he's fine and not to worry about him.
shocked that i haven’t seen a post about this already but the way that “full body deodorant” is being pushed on us is so vile. that woman in the commercials being like “i’m a woman and i know how it feels to be ashamed of your body’s natural odors. that’s why i invented this shit to rub between your thighs so you, too, can feel ashamed of your body’s natural odors. unless you buy my product :)” die die die die kill yourself fuck you fuck you
the people in my grandparents’ generation who were marketed baby powder to keep their pussies dry and odorless and got fucking cancer from it are rolling in their graves rn. please stop i’m begging you just let your body do its thing i promise hey. look at me. i promise you don’t smell bad. no one can smell you. and if they can, i promise they will be fine. please i’m begging
if i take a girl’s underwear off and smell chemical imitation lavender or rose or whatever instead of sweat and musk and girlstink the way god intended i’m burning down a cvs
I’m having a meltdown. When I was 9 years old I read an article in a magazine called Backyard Adventures about how this antelope, the saiga, was on the verge of extinction. I enlisted the help of my best friend and launched a fundraising campaign called Save the Saigas. We sold lemonade, had bake sales, sold belongings, yelled at strangers as they passed in their cars. Our parents were able to match the money we made. Our school helped. It wasn’t much, it didn’t save them, but it helped the organization at least a little bit.
Y’all. The saigas have been saved. A little piece of my passionate child heart that has seemed hopelessly lost and endlessly disappointed for a long time feels so soothed. Maybe it’s not all hopeless. Maybe our efforts aren’t a complete waste. Maybe we keep trying and actually hope for the best.
Shrek 2, while a cinematic masterpiece, is also an interesting look at queerness and comp het.
Fiona is married so it's time to reunite with her parents. But instead of marrying a prince, she's married to an ogre. Not just that, but she's also an ogre. (Yes everyone knew she would sometimes be an ogre but that was when she was a child, she didn't know she would be an ogre for the rest of her life, and besides once she met the right prince she would stop being an ogre. She was supposed to stop being an ogre.)
But okay they're both ogres. We can still ask about when they'll have children because even if they're ogres they can still have kids, right? That's what married princes and princesses do so naturally that's what everyone does. Even if ogres might not be great parents (I've heard that ogres eat their young, is that something you people do?) it's still something that should be discussed.
And okay you can stay in Fiona's childhood bedroom filled with all the reminders that hey, everyone thought she was just a princess and princesses marry princes. Her toys left out from the last time she played with them. The prince slays the ogre. The princess offers a token of gratitude for slaying the ogre. Fiona wrote Mrs. Fiona Charming a million times in her diary because what else was she supposed to grow up to be?
And Harold you have to fix this, your country can't be ruled by ogres. You were unfit to rule when you were a frog but I changed you, I made you better, I made you a prince. You know how this works. Think of your daughter's safety.
Shrek goes to the Fairy Godmother and oh honey, ogres don't live happily ever after. It's just not done. It hasn't happened in all of fairy tale history. You have to change the both of you to be happy. You have to present as a prince and a princess. It will be better. You'll fit in better that way. You'll be accepted that way.

This person is too good to do this for free.
I mean, stop motion animation is always impressive in the abstract; but it's even MORE impressive (at least to me) when we can see the person's hand holding the figure, and the figure is a poseable toy much like stuff I've played with as a child, and it's all taking place in what seems to be someone's home; that removes the distance of "oh film artists can do a lot of cool things" with its abstract respect, and brings it into the realm of "WOW this is a thing that real people are somehow able to do, with a lot of work".
ok but what if i

There are many benefits to being a marine biologist
By this point Loch Ness is probably the inland body of water we can be most sure doesn't have a monster in it.
I have no words.
