My post about breathing exercises not working for me got so many different replies with completely contradictory ideas that I decided to try breathing exercises thing again to try to explore this strange conundrum
This time I tried doing it while lying on my back and I didn't count, because counting led to me trying to breathe in too much air on the inhale, and force too much air out on the exhale, both of which were very uncomfortable. I breathed in through my nose and out through my mouth because that was the way I had been taught.
I think I did the inhale/hold/exhale cycle 10 or 12 times before I stopped. It felt physically uncomfortable in a way that was hard to describe, like it took a lot of effort and focus to make my body breathe a certain way, and the whole time my body was urging and fighting me to stop doing it and breathe normally. Also, the transition between inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth felt weird. It seems a lot more natural to just breathe through my nose the whole time.
Afterward, at first it didn't feel noticeably bad, but now my body feels more tense than it did, particularly in my back and shoulder blades and even in my jaw. My neck and upper back feel stiff and a little sore. I also feel slightly more snappy or irritable than before. I wasn't very anxious or stressed before I started, so the breathing exercises definitely made my body and mind feel worse.
I got a lot of contradictory replies on my breathing exercises post about what parts of your body are supposed to move or be engaged when breathing deeply, with many people telling me I'm breathing the wrong way and nobody clearly explaining what it means to breathe the right way.
Breathe so that your belly rises and falls. No, your belly shouldn't rise and fall at all. Actually, your chest shouldn't rise and fall. You shouldn't be engaging your muscles to breathe. You shouldn't be voluntarily controlling your breath at all, you should just use "intention" to guide your breath.
There were also several replies something like "most people breathe incorrectly and you have to learn to breathe correctly." I don't believe this at all.
Like, if my body doesn't even have an automatic process like "breathing" figured out and I need to use my brain to modify it, how can I trust my body to do literally anything?
I guess a lot of people don't trust their bodies to do literally anything.
Valid. I feel you about breathing exercises making me more tense.
Belly breathing uses the diaphragm and is what babies do. As we get older we use our chests to breath more often so using the diaphragm feels weird and unnatural. It takes conscious effort to breath with the diaphragm.
I think itās more useful to identify the why of breathing exercises, are we trying to slow our breathing? Be less tense? Calm anger? Calm fear? And basically all the tasks can be done by other means. Slowing your breathing doesnāt have to be meeting precise time limits (e.g. 8 seconds).
Itās a tool and it wonāt work for everyone and at all times. Try to identify what your goal or aim is and then have alternative tools.

This is gonna sound gross, but people who've never had long hair have no idea how hard it is to keep your hair out of food. Keeping my hair out of the way while making food is easy and I've never gotten my hair into food I'm making. Food I'm eating, however, is another beast entirely and I've lost count of how many times I've gotten food in or accidentally eaten my hair
opened up ravelry to look at patterns and the very first thing i saw was
The Garment by Robert Cole
I had to immediately look for myself and I feel like this post needs the addition of the very first line in the pattern description
i got these knockoff boots online and instead of the brand name on the tag they have the name of an apparently nonexistent martin scorsese movie??? what the fuck
THE ORIGINAL? ON MY DASH
this post led to a series of events that had martin scorsese himself reacting to his alleged movie goncharov and it has less than 400k notes almost 3 years later?
thought too hard about MRI machines today and had this come to me in a vision
mri accident is literally one of my biggest anxiety freakouts. i dont care about being in the tiny loud tube, im so scared of a secret piece of metal i dont know about in my body will tear through me like a knife through butter. what if i ate a quarter in my sleep
Quarters George who eats a $10 roll of quarters every night is shredded into a fine mist my the MRI
TIME TO POST ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE IMAGES!!!!
Back when I worked at the hospital, I had to take MRI training and it was my favorite thing every time. It was only like 10 minutes long and went a little something like this:
Hey. The MRI is basically a really big magnet and by basically I mean it is and we literally never turn it off. It's like really big. Really really big and powerful and The Magnet is always on. We don't turn it off Ever, for any reason. We mean it bro, The Magnet is literally always on. It's crazy strong and will definitely kill you. So don't bring any metal into the MRI room, man. You will fuck up the machine (because The Magnet is always on) and then you will die (again, because The Magnet is always on). Here's some fun questions for you to test your understanding!
1) The ______ is always on.
2) The Magnet is ______ on.
3) How often is The Magnet on?
4) The Magnet is always __.
5) The Magnet is always on. T/F
6) The Magnet is usually on but we know to turn it off for you because you're a very special boy :) T/F
7) My weak fleshy body can survive the wrath of The Magnet. T/F
8) Look at this 500 lbs steel hospital bed, which The Magnet has crumpled into an origami crane. Imagine if that was you.
9) Is The Magnet ever off?
10) Sometimes we turn The Magnet off. T/F
Thank you for taking MRI training. We hope you learned that The Magnet is always on, because it is. It's on Right Now and it will be on every time you come to the MRI. Have fun and remember: The Magnet is always on!
I love you MRI training. The Magnet is always on.
going to start saying The Magnet Is Always On the way some people say God Has A Plan

There was just something terribly wrong with the way I learned to understand "anxiety" and having "anxiety" and what that meant and how to deal with it.
I'm mad about it and I don't know what to do with the mad.
Cause i thought to myself before, I wish I had known it was trauma and not "anxiety," but I think to myself now, how in the hell was I or anyone supposed to know, and are those things even different, and it kind of is anxiety, but the way I understood it and was taught to understand it and the way every single resource and workbook and therapist understood it was just Wrong
Iām currently in a PHP program for trauma and I feel every week or so we get a transfer from the the anxiety adult program for this reason. Like youāve got anxiety+ that needs special tools

shaving isnāt even like remotely close to the biggest issue feminism needs to tackle but itās just astonishing to me how the most lukewarm bare minimum of normalizing natural body hair on women is met with such pushback from āprogressivesā on here. like thatās why i keep bringing it up. like if you fucks canāt get behind āwomen shouldnāt feel like they have to shave and shouldnāt be groomed into shavingā then what the hell can you be counted on for? nothing, clearly
I'm doing my part by going out while being hairy. Hopefully other girls can see me and feel like they won't be alone if they wanted to stop shaving
Haven't shaved legs in 7 years and I'm so glad I stopped, I can't imagine going through all the trouble and hassle to do that anymore.
I took the opposite route. Lasered my legs cause the looks I would get and the sheer discomfort of hiding them in a tropical country just won. It was my act of being less perceived, I have never seen a girl hairier than I... now I wear shorts and just. Go about it, nobody looks, nobody acknowledges it.
It feels like we have a choice on body hair but we don't, its either shaving or being the woke person in the room. And it really shouldn't be a divisive decision but that's the agency women get.
I haven't noticed any judgmental looks, but that may just be because I'm autistic and I tend to be oblivious to it? My hair is pretty thick and dark. It feels like nobody even notices though.
I don't shave my pits either, which I feel is slightly more "unacceptable" socially, but I don't really wear sleeveless shirts, so opportunities to confront social unacceptability have been less.
I used to pluck my eyebrows. So painful, and for what? If Frida Kahlo can have a unibrow I can too. thank you Frida Kahlo
Havenāt shaved my legs in about 5 years. Started wearing knee length shorts again this year. Just a sort of fuck it who cares attitude.
I do think the Hank Green AI thing makes it abundantly clear that if you have ADHD or any other mental illness and/or you are prone to addiction you need to avoid AI at all costs. This shit will rope you in, and if you have a mental illness that say, starves your brain of dopamine, you're gonna be extra susceptible to that. I won't use AI for a lot of reasons but one of the big ones is knowing how it would fuck with my ADHD and bipolar. Like yes, it's bad for the environment and giving money to rich scumbags and runs on plagarism, but even more than all that, it's straight up not safe at all and you really shouldn't use it if for no other reason than to protect yourself from whatever the fuck it might do to you.
Dropping the schadenfreudish-humor tone of this blog for a sec...
The greatest greediest minds of my generation (and surrounding generations) have been thinking -- successfully -- about how to turn human minds away from family, friends, nature, travel, hobbies, goals, dreams, even truth itself...
... toward profit machines made of treadmills, lack of self-efficacy, and addiction. LLMs are (as many comments to the OP have noticed) merely the latest iteration of a longstanding trend that includes many kinds of games and social-media systems. If there's a recommender engine or a tuning loop underneath it anywhere, it's been designed to bogart human attention.
Well can we change it back
