Fire Emblem Three Houses Characters Upon Discovering their Children got in to a Fight:
Caspar: Didja hit them back? Heck yeah!
Ferdinand: How ghastly. As a noble, you should not have returned that punch.
Sylvain: Reminds me of when I was a kid. My brother and I fought all the time. Did I tell you about the time he threw me in a well?
Mercedes: Oh no, let me see your bruise. You poor thing. We must have a talk with him and his parents to settle this. I should go prepare some sweets.
Felix: You punched back? Good.
Claude: Did you do the trick I showed you where you throw dirt in their eyes and then, when they're dazed, you strike? You did? Good work kiddo.
Edlegard: You fought back, good. Never choose weakness.
Hubert: .... *already has the address, name and weakness of the child and family* I doubt he shall be a problem again.
I just finished watching the first season of House of the Dragon (yes, I'm late to the party, I know), and I was emotionally crushed by the ending. The sheer 10d10 psychic damage I suffered was incredible. Loved it. I even shed a singular tear. May this series continue to crush me emotionally.
DONâT become even a casual nerd about historical fashion because youâll start looking at pseudo-medieval fantasy and going âthat jacket and those breeches are 200 years apart and reflect extremely different social movementsâ and âoh no they were NOT making shirts like that prior to industrializationâ and âa fly front? in MY ~1500s???â
The thing about this is that it's not even deliberate. People often respond with deep offense that you're not taking into consideration that it's fantasy, but it's not really a choice: when you understand a topic well enough, these issues are immediately apparent and immersion-breaking in much the same way something more obvious would jump out at a normal person.
It's like if there were suddenly an 18th century style revolver in Westeros, but no other use of gunpowder. Or a Model T Ford. It would stand out and make you go "how did this get here?" even if you understood that this is fantasy!
This is why I love watching things with people who know random shit like this. Especially because I can also be one of those people.
As a writer you learn new things to consider because of people like this. Growing up with my father watching a film muttering "a SWAT team would never do that", "that gun didn't even exist in WWII," or "that gun doesn't have that many bullets!" taught me the myriad of things one needed to research for writing, but also why we choose creative license over accuracy.
Yes there are lines and limits dependent on genre. A difference between creative license and inaccuracy. Even in my own areas of expertise (classical music and certain eras of fashion) I get taken out of stories and people don't understand my criticism. As often as this pops up, I still love this 'errors' or 'choices' because they are artifacts of the creative process; they are symbols of ignorance or choice.
The Three Houses Watch Party
The Blue Lions: It's sports. It's always sports. They are watching the world cup with face paint (Mercie does not), screaming at the TV. And don't get me started on what happens during hockey season...
The Golden Deer: Guys, it's Drag Race night again. Anyone wanna guess what Claude's drag name would be? Raphel, share the fucking popcorn.
The Black Eagles: It's Ken Burn's Civil War again... for the seventh time. No, stop touching the remote, we are watching this.
The Quest to Eat Breakfast - An Extremley Distracted Journey
Ahh, food, my body is informing me it is needed. I must feed myself. Excellent.
Allow me to enter the kitchen, and oh, look, the washing machine is open. Time to wash my clothes, allow me to wander in my room. Hmmm, I still need to make my bed but I do need to clean my sheets. Let me remove my sheets and...
Alas, my laptop, notebook, current reading material and controller are on my bed. Let me just put these away and... I left yesterday's coffee mug on my desk alongside my watercup. Let me just move these to the kitchen.
Let me see, did my roommates run the dishwasher? Nope. Let me quickly run this and then I can make food. But oh, there is some stuff in the sink. I can't leave it unwashed. The dish rack is full too? Let me put those away.
Excellent, I now have space to dry dishes. Wash, wash, wash. Hmmm, I have now filled the drying rack, and since moving here I don't know where my dish towels went. I shall let these dry now. Hmmm, what was I doing?
Let me return to my room and continue listening to my show. Wait a second, the dryer is open. Wasn't I supposed to... yup... uhhh, lets load the washing machine. Now it's running. Tumbling along. Lovely. Perfection. Wonderful.
All of this hard work, let me return to my nest and get ready whilst listening to my show. But I am a little hungry. Wasn't I supposed to have eaten a while ago? Let me return to the kitchen, and prepare my food.
(This took like, over half an hour, okay.)
I love going through my makeup journey well after high school because:
a.) I am more secure in my body and identity and therefore do it for my own gaze. I'm not trying to conform to the 'in style'.
b.) I am more likely to do research before spending money on products.
c.) My father is also getting dragged into the experience and finally doing the anit-make up dad hissy fit on his grown ass daughter, whom he has no control over. I enjoy seeing this, because it is absolutely hilarious. Father, you know those 1940s movie stars we both say are incredibly attractive and swoon over? I do my makeup just like them, silence thy double standards. Then he continues to speak, because he is a man with opinions... and it humors me greatly, as I sit there in pincurled hair and a killer red lip.
d.) I finally get to annoy the man and it's great. Next time he says anything about the lipstick, I am saying something about the beard.
Sure, Migraines suck and all...
But my migraine besotted brain will start making some weirdass, awesome connections. I'll just be standing there, sunglasses on, ready to take a triptan, and my foggy brain will declare something... then I just have to stop and be like, "Wait, let's let you cook." Then I cook, and it's great.
Anyway, that's how I started talking about biopower and cows in my capstone on Bloodborne. Trust me, it fucking worked.
Okay, hear me out. Hear me out.
I am totally convinced Stardew Valley's Harvey was a military kid. I swear to god, it's like a thing that kids with bad eye sight who have air force parents become hyper interested in planes. Thus, I like to think Harvey's dad was probably Ferngill Air Force. Probably.
In this head canon, I think Harvey's father may have been a tad harsh on him. He probably never understood his sensitive son, instead prefering to try and instill a more macho mindset. As a result, Harvey was more uncomfortable with himself. His anxiety worsened, exacerbated by him moving schools multiple times and struggling to make friends.
I don't think Harvey and his father speak now. And I don't think mom is alive or around, which could explain why he never mentions his family. I doubt he'd tell his father he was married. Especially if, like me, you happen to play a male farmer.
Why must I give my beloved cinnamon roll a tragic head canon...
As someone interested in crossover fics, do you know the main source of my pain? Of my suffering?
It is having ships where I am the only person pushing them out of the harbor, and realizing the onus of producing all the fluff, all the angst... it is upon I alone, on the lonely sea. All because my brain goes... these two characters from different stories would be great together, god I hate those morons, my little beans.
The current source of my suffering's suffering? My brain going, "You know, BSD's Chuuya Nakahara and Expedition 33's Lune kinda have great chemistry. They kind of work together." And no one else gets it. There are crickets, and thou art alone...
Now that I've spilled by little ship, you are of course required to share. This is a trade goddamn it.
