I have to agree with the premise of the Saint of Steel books, wherein Paladins get more interesting as soon as you break them.

That's why I loved the Saint of Steel books. So many romance writers and readers think only villains are interesting. I disagree because I think that villainy is used as a cheap short hand to make shallow characters appear more complex and interesting than they actually are. (Villains can be great love interests, just look at Megamind, but i guess he doesn't count because deep down, he's also a good boy).

You get the best of both worlds with a broken paladin. The Saint of Steel paladins have a dark violence within that makes them dangerous and tortured, but when they're in control of themselves, they are kind hearted and treat everyone, not just their love interests, with respect.

I love the Saint of Steel paladins. You get muscular angsty warriors that are scarred and tortured, but they're safe and kind with chivalry that's devoid of toxic masculinity.

Bog is spiritually a tumblr sexyman, but most of Tumblr, and people in general, dont know he even exists because they haven't seen Strange Magic.

This movie bombed so hard. It was in production when Disney bought Lucas Films, and Disney saw no point in further promoting the film after its disastrous opening weekend.

No one saw it, and tbh (I say this with love because its my second favorite film of all time) it's just not a good movie. The writing and use of music are just bad and even cringe at times. It's aimed at young girls, but is as femminist and empowering as a democrat. Decent concept, bad execution. BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION.

There is a solid 15-20 minutes where it's genuinely good, even compelling, but it's not enough. That just makes the film even more interesting to me. It could have been a decent kids movie, maybe even great in another universe, if the writing was even half as good as the animation.

Again, I'm not hating. I have seen this movie over a dozen times. Once, I got zooted and watched it twice in one night, the second time completely muted. I watched the entire thing in silence just in awe of the animation's visual story telling and attention to detail.
