8 month update:

Hello it has been 8 months and I have done some new things.

- used airbnb

- traveled solo to a foreign country

- travel to stay with someone I had only met once

- student exchange

- shaved my head

- cooked for myself

I think that’s it.

I’ve also:

- made it so one task on my list is impossible (probably) (#36: finish all assignments a week early, I am graduating soon and have NOT done that this semester)

- Met Norwegians, therefore have decided to focus on learning Norwegian instead of trialing all those languages which I didn’t do anyway.

Doing something new (again)

So the other day I swam in a pool while on my period (with a tampon in). That’s something that causes me a lot of anxiety so I am pretty proud of myself, I was surrounded by my friends and if something went wrong there would be no hiding it.... but it didn’t! So I’m happy. 

In other news, I’ve decided to try learning a couple of different languages for short periods of time to see which one I may enjoy learning the most! I will continue with German.

The languages I will sample are: Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Japanese, Russian, and Arabic.  I intend to sample these each for a two week period and then move to the next before deciding which to pursue. This decision was advised by my partner who believes to learn something one must truly enjoy it, it can’t just be useful. I find myself agreeing.

Game Master!

I was a GM for the first time this week! I ran a session of stars without number (highly recommend) and it went reasonably well! My players are all experienced and so that may have helped, but it was also incredibly intimidating. Extended post edit coming.

Continued Duolingo Streak (22 days)

Finished sketch a day for a month (28/28)  !!!! (post will come tomorrow - this week’s and a completion post)

In my normal life, Iiiiiii finished exams! I get results in a few weeks and I’m very excited to see them - I think I’ve done quite well this semester somehow. I’m also keen to start working on stuff for next semester so I might start a Khan Academy streak.

I’ve also set up to be able to GM my first RPG, Stars without Number. Very exciting stuff. Looking forward to getting the remaining PCs sorted and figure the last bits. That’s one of my things to experience so I’m also looking forward to crossing it off my list.

This summer I have a lot of time to cross things off, and I’m going to work on smashing some out. One a week, right? That’s what I planned, and that’s what I’m going to try to do. I’ve definitely been half-hearting it during exams but now that I have time I hope to make some good habits.

Also planning on getting back into my fitness routine from this time last year, I was pretty fit and I miss that. My shin splints are finally gone so I can start getting involved again!

16-22NOV Recap

Hello again,

Reasonably constantly studying for at least an hour a day. Mostly because I have a terrifying final coming up that I really want to do well in.

I have stopped using an eraser and I’ve reduced the time I spend sketching so that I don’t get bored and that I can stop beating myself up about detail levels.

Achievements this week

Completed seven more sketches for my once a day attempt (14/28)

10 Day streak in Duolingo, still going. Working towards my “finish a Duolingo Tree” and “A2 in German” goals.

Used my bullet journal for a week straight and didn’t worry about wasting paper.

Smaller achievements:

I feel like I’m doing well with study and I’m achieving personal goals I’ve set myself in the bullet journal, such as 

deciding what to do with an item of clothing once per day (I have too much stuff)

put care into my appearance

stretch every day

These are just little goals that I want to achieve and so I’m tracking how I do in the journal. I’m feeling good this week.

First bullet journal spread.

I’m pretty happy with my first week of using the Bullet Journal. On the Saturday I had to go back and write in what I did because I was out ALL day and my plans were changing but I am proud of what I’ve achieved. I also feel like I’ve become more productive in my every day life, cleaning up my areas and getting some good study done. We shall see if that lasts during exams.

As you can see I changed ideas a fair bit. On the left is my first attempt, I have just the day and to-dos, but as I went on I realised I wouldn’t have enough space on that page for Tuesday, so I thought I’d try using a [goals] section.  I didn’t actually use it that much because my weekly goals are all different daily things that really need to be done during that specific day. To adjust this I started doing a [plan ahead] section on the right side (on the right page). I like this idea, but I haven’t decided if I should do little arrows indicating I’ve moved it to the day. I’m also unsure of what I’ll do during next week (Page 2) because I have very little on! Might end up being a bit pointless if I don’t have plans, but we will see.

Here you can see my weekly plan. I decided to try some of the things I saw here. I think she has some great ideas. The habits section is what I was really looking for, but the [time] section shows what I’ve spent my day doing! At the moment, obviously, all I’ve spent my time on is sleeping, getting ready for the day, and preparing my journal, but I have high hopes.

Colour-coding is a little mixed up at the moment too. I don’t have many colours, I started out just using green and pink.

Pink - Uni (at the end of the semester so I figured I didn’t need a different colour per class anymore)

Blue - Self

For the symbols I just use the standard

Circle - Event

Triangle - Appointment

Asterix - Next to another symbol means this is important.

Attempted to start studying an hour a day for a week, (2/7) Did great Thursday-Friday but failed Saturday and Sunday. Resetting.

So, firstly, you’ll notice that my final drawing was 5 minutes and it was awful. I drove home and almost hit a cat just before doing it. Just had to get something on the paper. That was a terrifying experience.

Secondly, I’m in the middle of a really stressful period of my life - ending 28NOV. Honestly at the moment I’m just trying to power through. Not going to be experiencing much new, hopefully will achieve bullet journal todos and continue the sketching. Actually hopefully I study for an hour a day ---- at least!

Bullet Journal

So I have used the bullets from the bullet journal on and off for a while but I thought I might try out the actual journalling technique while I’m taking a break from study. When I looked at this technique a few years ago there was pretty much no information on it but now it’s all over tumblr! So I took influence from some people and created my journal using an old workbook. No need to buy a fancy journal if I’m not guaranteed to use it!

The things I want to accomplish with this are simple

- Keep using it!

- Don’t worry about “wasting space” I have a million notebooks with three pages used and teenie tiny writing! Stop it!

Second day's sketch. Not true to life, I can see many mistakes, and certainly noticed them when I was drawing but not bad. Not sure how to get the lid looking right. I’d like to try this again later down the track.

Attempted to sketch my cat but she kept getting up and walking over my page so perhaps later.

Beginnings

I started off this journey attempting to do ten new things over ten days, followed by ten days of doing one new thing. Rinse and Repeat. I got to the end of the first round and realised what I was doing was a little too intense and wasn’t working as well as I planned - so I reviewed.

I will be attempting to do at least one new thing a week. That way if I only do one thing I feel satisfied, but if I do seven new things I feel great!
