The best notes written in manuscripts by medieval monks
Colophon: a statement at the end of a book containing the scribe or owner’s name, date of completion, or bitching about how hard it is to write a book in the dark ages
Oh, my hand
The parchment is very hairy
Thank God it will soon be dark
St. Patrick of Armagh, deliver me from writing
Now I’ve written the whole thing; for Christ’s sake give me a drink
Oh d fuckin abbot
Massive hangover
Whoever translated these Gospels did a very poor job
Cursed be the pesty cat that urinated over this book during the night
If someone else would like such a handsome book, come and look me up in Paris, across from the Notre Dame cathedral
I shall remember, O Christ, that I am writing of Thee, because I am wrecked today
Do not reproach me concerning the letters, the ink is bad and the parchment scanty and the day is dark
11 golden letters, 8 shilling each; 700 letters with double shafts, 7 shilling for each hundred; and 35 quires of text, each 16 leaves, at 3 shilling each. For such an amount I won’t write again
Here ends the second part of the title work of Brother Thomas Aquinas of the Dominican Order; very long, very verbose; and very tedious for the scribe; thank God, thank God, and again thank God
If anyone take away this book, let him die the death, let him be fried in a pan; let the falling sickness and fever seize him; let him be broken on the wheel, and hanged. Amen
what does oh d fuckin abbot even MEAN
an abbot is the head of a monastery so it just means “fuck my boss” basically, an abbreviation of “O damned fuckin Abbot”. this is what it looks like:
Brasenose College MS 7, f.62v
very important, as is to my knowledge first attested instance of word ‘fuck.’ (it’s older, it’s just usually censored in some way)
Russian Doll (2019-present) Matryoshka (S02E07)
- Fyodor Dostoevsky, from The Gentle Spirit
the terror (2018) // the meditations of marcus aurelius, trans. maxwell staniforth
Aemond is your brother. We are family. You may cuff him about as you wish at home, but in the world, we must defend our own.
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON — 1x01 // 2x01
I laughed so fucking hard at this
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON TWO Episode 1: A Son for a Son
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON 1.07 | 2.01 | 2.02
i think the whole “jon has a secret targaryen name and it’s aegon/aemon” thing is just kind of goofy because the whole point of it all is that he has no name but what ned gave him. Ned named his adopted son after his adopted father. that’s love that’s so much more than the whole azor ahai prophecy that’s everything. however if we’re doing goofy name theories “what if lyanna gave jon a stark name before she died and that name happened to be theon” is my favorite contender

It's Pangur!
This took longer than expected but I had a lot of fun working on it! I've loved Pangur's vibes for forever, so it was about time I made fanart

the fantasy genre turns people into royalists so fast. i’m not even talking about return of the true king fairytales here but i mean, like, when there’s a “who will become king/queen!” plotline and people immediately start genuinely talking about who has the rightful claim. can we all sit down and first agree that none of these people “should” be king or queen because that isn’t a thing that should happen to people. what century are you from. divine right isn’t real go back to sleep
