Passed On, But Not Forgotten
June has been a sad month for us. Over the approx 2 years we have been involved in cat rescue, we've never had any cats or kittens die in our care. We knew it would come sooner or later, but we hoped for later.
Unfortunately 1 did not die. We had a total of 5 deaths in the whole month! 😭
Brothers Wilbur & Avery were our first 2. The whole litter came to us with coccidia, & after treatment were getting better until all of the sudden Wilbur grew worse overnight & passed 06/14/26, a Sunday afternoon.
His brother Avery had a severe rectal prolapse the night before due to continuous runny poo from the coccidia. The next morning it miraculously was back in! That doesn't happen according to the vets! The vets gave him antibiotics & sent him away with more coccidia treatment. He had stopped eating by himself until Tuesday night, when he improved. He ate a little Wednesday morning, but had to be force-fed later. But on 06/18/26, Thursday evening, he too passed. His poo tested positive for panleukopenia.
On 06/17/26 our pregnant kitten gave birth to 1 stillborn kitten. We were sad, but the next day we found 3 live kittens! All seemed well until 06/27/26, when we found a dead kitten. We believe he had died from aspiration pneumonia as he had blood & vomit on his face. The boys were buried together & given the names Thing One & Thing Two.
Our last death was an accident. 9 week old Jinx was ran over by a bike & suffered a spinal injury 06/29/26. She had to be euthanized because if she survived surgery, her quality of life would've not been very good. That was very devastating.
But even with all of these tragedies, through it all God has been good. Always!🙏
This post is made to remind people about what people involved in animal rescue work go through. Death is a part. We in rescue try to save animals, prevent them from suffering, from dying when they could live, but occasionally the animals do not make it.
We at Tomlinson's Cat Rescue will never forget our deceased kittens. Each & every one of them will be remembered. They were, & still are, loved.❤️ R.I.P.
