WARNING: The Batman (2022) Spoilers
First off, what we do have. A major plot point of The Batman was that Thomas Wayne asked Carmine Falcone for help with a reporter who was trying to bring light to Martha's mental health to damage his campaign, this reporter was called Edward Elliot, and got killed by Falcone to give Falcone something over Thomas Wayne. Elliot is an obvious reference to the Elliot's, and Edward Elliot specifically was Tommy Elliot's great-great (maybe another great) grandfather in Gates of Gotham, and the first Elliot in Gotham within the founding family. Kinda weird that he's the one here, but hey, it's better than making me hear the name Roger
There was also a video that Riddler sent to Batman about Edward Elliot and Martha, which was posted again on https://www.rataalada.com/ which was teased in the post-credits
This video had 'HUSH!' in it. Another obvious reference
Matt Reeves also answered the question 'what character from the batman comics would be a dream to incorporate in the world of the batman?' which got this response:
"There's so many. I think Hush is a really interesting one to do. There are just—I'll choose Hush. But that doesn't mean the next one will be Hush, I just want to say there are so many, and what we would do next, what we're going to do next, if we have that opportunity, is... it's still in the planning stages, and I have a lot of ideas, so please don't latch onto this and say they're doing a Hush movie. But that is a character that I love that I would love to see done, and maybe we'll get the opportunity to do it. But there are many."
Which speaks for itself. So, to continue:
if Tommy's dad was the reporter instead of Roger Elliot and he got murdered, the normal route doesn't totally work anymore because Roger was abusive which led to Tommy to kill his father. This doesn't work, because someone else murdered his dad and if he was abusive why on earth would he be mad at the Wayne's? Se wouldn't. Edward Elliot was clearly at least a criminal bc he worked w/ Maroni and, if he was abusive, I'm gonna call it now and say it was only mild at best, if he was even abusive
Because Edward Elliot was murdered, it left him alone with his mother, Marla Elliot, so if Edward Elliot wasn't abusive (or only to a mild extent), when he got murdered, Tommy was left alone with his abusive mother which left him extremely vulnerable bc his theoretically nicer father wasn't there for him anymore and so got a Lot more rough treatment from his mother. This would, in turn, obviously, leave him to resent the Wayne's for what happened and leaving him alone with Marla
The only gap I have in this is whether or not Tommy's still Bruce's childhood friend, I obviously want him to be, but its either they were already friends like usual when this happened (and Thomas Wayne probably didn't know Edward Elliot was his dad, or didn't rly know Bruce's friends bc lets be real this child didn't look like he had friends), or he befriended Bruce after his father got murdered, potentially for that exact reason
