@tomorrowls — "did you hear that?" to rainy.

rainy looks towards tomorrow before turning towards the direction of the noise. she tilts her head in thought, trying to scour through her very limited knowledge of animal noises. rainy settles on one of the birds she remembers reading about that made its presence known at night. ❛ it sounds like an owl. they were common before the death stranding. ❜

with a smile, she turns to tomorrow. it's nice when they have down time like this. able to sit on top of the magellan and enjoy the stars. ❛ i like finding out that more creatures survived. it makes me feel hopeful. ❜

Tomorrow glances at her with a faint smirk, the sound still echoing faintly in the distance. She murmurs, tilting her head as if to catch it again. She leans back against the cargo netting, gaze drifting upward to where the stars sprawl unbroken by city lights. There’s a rare softness to his tone when he speaks again.

" An owl, huh? Never thought I’d hear one outside of an old recording. Guess you’re right. Every time something makes it through… feels like the world’s still fighting to stay alive. Maybe people aren’t the only stubborn ones left. "

Tomorrow watches her — really watches her this time. Not with fear. Not with awe. But with recognition. Not of Death as an end, or a force, or a myth. But as someone who has stood apart for too long. Someone who’s tired of being looked at like the final chapter, and not the hand that closed the book.

“…Then stay,” she says softly, her voice carrying not command, but invitation.

No judgment. No demands. Just choice.

“You’ve always been the one waiting at the edge. Watching. Holding the silence while we scream and fight and love and lose.” She takes a step closer, her gaze unflinching.

“But maybe now, it’s your turn to feel what comes before the end.”

Stay... Where she was wanted. Instead of being avoided. Of watching souls do their best to run from her. She would feel something swell inside her if she something more than what she was. A human feeling to hold her.

If she could tell Tomorrow what lied ahead.. She would. But that is not her duty. She knows what their fates were. Even when they changed. She was just like her mother and father. Strong in more ways than what could be explained.

"..." She smiles to herself. "To have loved and lost. Is what I expect. Nothing lasts forever.. But to witness it.. Is something so much more."

"Even in loss," she whispers, voice soft as wind through tall grass, "there’s a kind of eternity in remembering. To be remembered… perhaps that’s the truest kind of forever.”

She doesn’t cry. There’s no need. The tears had long since dried in lifetimes past — in memories not entirely hers and in futures she wasn’t meant to hold. Tomorrow… she was hope and grief knotted together. The thread pulled tight between what was and what could never be. And still — she walked forward. She always had.
