i will never forgive bbc merlin for how they treated morgwen post morgana becoming evil. i don't care about morgana becoming evil, she had her reasons. but she had no reason to be mean to gwen. none. and i think it was just lazy writing. morgana hated uther and by extension arthur. she hated the institution. but gwen?? her girlfriend best friend gwen??? better writers would have shown more conflicting feelings there. she should have kept loving gwen because there is no reason she wouldn't. ok. you guys just don't know how to write real complex women with latent lesbian tendencies. typical.

and well actually i am not surprised that harry and may are both series regulars now and yet harry is the only one actually getting to have Something To Do. despite the fact that may is the only one of the two who was ever a main character before and who the audience has a connection to and many people love and want to see more of. and you know what i think we know why!!!! how many times has this show chosen to sideline its women in favour of their male counterparts?!! like Yes the show is very diverse and should be celebrated for that but when four out of nine of the main characters are women and those women rarely ever get to do something that doesn't have to do with being another characters' wife/mother/sister. oh unless they are getting horribly often violently traumatised of course. well. it gets to a Point. (putting the rest of this under a cut because i had more to say than i realised)

like i've been thinking about this for ages and. what did maddie get to do in season eight? she spent the first half doing nothing other than being a scene partner for buck or chimney, usually buck, and being a support for them. and then she got kidnapped for the literal Third Time because for some reason that's the only interesting thing they ever let happen to her. and then she spent the second half of the season doing the exact same thing as the first half, only this time when she sat on the couch being her brother's sounding board she had a special-fx scar on her neck. oh and she was also pregnant this whole time btw which was never explored even once despite the wealth of opportunity there.

and now let's look at hen, shall we!! i have literally been trying to think of what hen got to do in season eight and well. maybe my memory is just acting up but she got to be the focus of "invisible" (the plot of which actually made almost zero sense for her whatsoever), and then... what? did she even get to do anything else?? oh right yeah her son got hit by a fucking car and that was horrifically traumatising and emotional and then once the next episode started it was literally never mentioned again by fucking Anyone. for the entire rest of the season. right.

and the thing that really gets me is that when the show actually remembers that these women exist and they can do stuff other than just Hum Reassuringly with a glass of wine in their hands or stand next to a man as he does something interesting, they eat it up!!!!! hen's doctor arc!!!! maddie finding herself in season 2, and her ppd arc in season five!!!! may becoming a main and watching her mature and find herself after high school!!!! all of these things are SUCH highlights of the show for me and make the entire experience so much better and more well rounded. but they are few and far in between in a show where we have Five bobby begins and probably fifty episodes about buck trying to figure out the meaning of life.

the women of this show are never allowed to show ambition, and if they are that ambition is never allowed to amount to anything (hen dropping out of med school, athena turning down a promotion, hen turning down a promotion that has been acknowledged out loud to have been in the works for her since season fucking three). lucy was written off the show in silence because apparently the 118 cannot have more than one female firefighter with a speaking role at any given time. may is INFINITELY more qualified, competent, and motivated to become a firefighter or paramedic than harry has ever shown himself to be in nine seasons. but i guess none of that fucking matters because tim minear and the writers are only interested in focusing on the men

I’ve been Thinking about the final episodes of s9 and how Tim said they were going to wrap up everyone’s storylines from throughout the season and I think Harry will play an important part in them… his arc in becoming a firefighter has been an important storyline that has spanned the whole season, and it’s one that has been constantly tinged in anxiety. even 9x16 had a scene of Harry worrying about his future as a firefighter & the fear of getting something wrong. Athena has been shown worrying about Harry multiple times (his injury during training) as has Chimney (keeping him behind so he’s out of danger on the job). Everyone’s always worried about Harry, which I think has to be setting up Harry doing something major in the finale…

With that one shot of Buck being held back by two extras(?), I do generally agree it has something to do with Eddie. Eddie jumping off the bridge in 9x01 was brought up multiple times recently, which could be setting him up to do something reckless again (possibly to help a kid??) but this time it goes south. And Buck’s first reaction is obviously to go after Eddie but he realises he can’t because of Christopher and him being all he has (Buck’s comment to Bonnie to protect Eddie + will mention trust we will get it one day), so Harry decides to instead. So then, presumably using his knife that’s exactly like Bobby’s knife of which we are all very fond, it then becomes Harry job to go in and saving Eddie and possibly other members of the 118?? I’m specifically thinking Hen and/or Chim (paramedic call gone wrong?) since they’re the other parents on the team. The episode called “Ive got you Babe” and that obviously reads romantic (more on that later) but there’s also the connection to babies aka Harry, the baby of the 118 & the first kid we’ve truly seen grow up on screen, so the flip on it is Harry (the baby) has got them. Also the Bobby parallel of Harry becoming a firefighter in his shadow, and that being his dad, and Harry ensuring all the other 118 kids have their parents come home like Bobby couldn’t… also you could take that further by having Harry get injured during the rescue but ignoring it to save everyone else (Harry wearing Bobby’s turnouts), then collapsing afterwards seemingly validating everyone’s fears. He lives obviously though (maybe because of Eddie??? since he wasn’t there when Bobby died & is haunted by whether he could have made a difference or not)

I also think another dimension of the title could be the various spouses/partners being important in saving them, paralleling Karen’s role in saving Hen during the space arc at the beginning of the season. I could definitely see Maddie’s new role as boss at dispatch being good for that kinda of storyline

because like... if she only shined in that one area and none of the others, then zanka probably still had a shot at the golden throne

it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case, especially considering that it's kind of zanka's brand to miss an entire forest for a single tree

So I haven't read Gachiakuta in a hot minute, but...

I find it kinda interesting that the two people that Zanka perceives as 'natural geniuses' most likely developed their fighting skills as means of survival.

Like yeah they have talent, but it feels like by simply categorizing them as such, he unintentionally ignores the circumstances that forced them to develop such skills and ignores whatever work they put into reaching their current level. They might've had easier time but that doesn't necessarily mean their lives were easy.

You know, I joke a lot about Enjin going "dad mode", but I think he has much more of an older brother role than a fatherly one. I think it's partly teenagers making this characterisation, since they don't understand that 28 is not that old lol. Old enough to be a dad, sure, but a dad to a bunch of teenagers? Don't think so.

So whenever I see people seriously saying Enjin is an adoptive father to any of the characters I can't help but going "oh lawd, they mischaracterising my favs again"
