As a human being I always want things to go my way. I have a myopic view, unlike God who has the big picture and my best interest at heart. But I erroneously was expecting the Lord to make my life a bed of roses without challenges or difficulties. I was treating God as a genie, doing whatever I wanted and God would always bless it. I strive to achieve out of my own strength and knowledge instead of relying on God. I pretend to know all the answers and act like everything is under my control instead of acknowledging God as sovereign over all. What I see as personal strength, God sees as pride. When I rely on myself instead of God, I reject the relationship God intended for us. God set Himself up as our helper because He knows, our own limited ability will never be enough. He invites us into a personal relationship with Him because He meets the needs no one else can meet. We need God because without Him, we will never be satisfied.
