I love "how a song can contain an eternal moment inside of it;" how song and melody becomes the doorway into the Father's heart.

I love this song. I'm rocked back and forth as it's sung over me and I'm anchored in His love. "I will hold you, child
When all is done When the world is gone And many songs have been sung You will be with me Through endless years We will dance and sing When your heart is fulfilled So don't you close your eyes Don't you lose your way Don't you miss all the gifts That are unforeseen I'm your anchor and shield I'm the wind in your sails I'm the song in your heart The God who saves"
shattered pieces of a mirror
The human condition is that of a sinner. A broken person with a corrupt heart in bodily flesh with desires for this world. It's an onion with many layers. This is the reality of which I have to come to terms with in myself and in the world around me. It's the truth that permeates this world and I can imagine and think of a pretty illusion, but at the end of the day, I find myself back at this truth. The core is what must be dealt with. The heart of the issue is deep in the recesses of the heart and it must be pulled out. Proverb 20:5 - "The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out." I took my lunch break and went to church and prayed for about 15 minutes and God broke me. As I process and reflect upon how God is moving in my life, I'm overwhelmed. I look in the mirror and I'm used to seeing a complete picture, but as I mature, it's very much not a composed picture. Rather, it's a broken mirror with many shattered pieces that God is restoring. That 15 minutes felt neither long nor short because all I was focused on what simply pouring out my heart to God. He's God the Father and the giver of every good and perfect gift. The heaviness in my heart is a little bit lighter now. The image in the mirror has one less crack. God is in the business of perfection and His standard is high, but by His grace and mercy which are new every morning, we will rise in humble glory.

“Suppose for a moment that you were allowed to enter heaven without holiness. What would you do? What possible enjoyment could you feel there? To which of all the saints would you join yourself, and by whose side would you sit down? Their pleasures are not your pleasures, their tastes are not your tastes, their character not your character. How could you possibly be happy, if you had not been holy on earth?”
J.C. Ryle
If you don't desire and enjoy God while on earth, why would you desire God in Heaven where everything is about Him?

funn! and doesn't take much effort
But you are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them. (Nehemiah 9:17)
Jerusalem, the city meant to declare God’s name, lies in rubble on the ground. The glory of Solomon’s era has passed. Now it stands bare, lifeless, stripped, and unprotected, a shameful shadow of its former splendor. A powerhouse brought low. A chosen people scattered. A city desecrated.
Nehemiah, having heard news from afar about the beloved city, mourns over the reproach of his people. He knows that the pride and hard-heartedness of his people have caused their own destruction. Previously, God warned them of this, that if they haughtily turned away from him, there would be consequences. Certainly, the consequences have arrived: captivity, broken fortifications, reproach, and an entire city in distress. Grieved, Nehemiah pleads with God for the people by confessing their sins:
O great and awesome God, you who keep your covenant and mercy with those who love you and observe your commandments, please let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, that you may hear the prayer of your servant which I pray before you now, day and night, for the children of Israel, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. (Nehemiah 1:5–6)
He is so grieved over their sin and the physical representation of that sin — Jerusalem’s rubble — that he travels to Jerusalem to see it for himself. There, standing above the city, taking in its remains, he weeps.
And God responds.
God responds to an entire wayward nation because of this singularly repentant man. He loves a broken and contrite heart. Through Nehemiah’s leadership, God restores a whole people to himself, as well as the beloved city’s fortification.
From rubble to complete restoration. This is the way of God when his people submit to him.
There is another man weeping over Jerusalem, some 500 years after Nehemiah’s time. The city is not in physical rubble, but it is in spiritual shambles, full of religious people who are dangerously hard-hearted toward God. Soon, lacking the spiritual eyes and ears to understand his desire to gather them, protect them, forgive them, lead them, restore them, they will crucify the Weeper.
He longs to transform their spiritual rubble into complete life restoration because this is his way, the way of Jesus. If they would just let him.
Perhaps today you are weeping too over the rubble of sin or failure or things out of your control.
Perhaps you are reflecting on the rubble left from long-ago decisions, rubble that you are trying desperately to hide, run away from, or move past once-and-for-all.
Jesus stands over that rubble, weeping with compassion for you. But more so, he calls for you, his spiritual Jerusalem, to come to him:
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem….how often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. (Matthew 23:37)
Even standing in their rubble, so many are still not willing to submit to him. Are we?
We don’t often believe him when he says he forgives. We don’t often believe he can love us enough to fully restore us to our Garden of Eden glory.
Whether we believe it or not, the substance of God’s love is mercy and grace. He is mercy and grace. He does mercy and grace. He gives mercy and grace. He doesn’t just forgive (mercy). He blesses and bestows favor (grace), enough so that a life completely broken down can be fully rebuilt. It is his response to all repentant, softened hearts.
From rubble to restoration. This is the way of God.
- Christine Hoover
A woman who fears the Lord will not run away from God to satisfy her longings and relieve her anxieties. She will wait for the Lord. She will hope in God. She will stay close to the heart of God and trust in his promises. The prospect of departing into the way of sin will be too fearful to pursue; and the benefits of abiding in the shadow of the Almighty too glorious to forsake.
John Piper, May 10, 1981 (via -deborah)

I'm always challenged when I re-watch this short clip of Mike & Dina Van Holt's testimony of how God moved. It's incredible just how much God cares and loves us. If only we put our faith and trust in God, He'll take us on an adventure and amazing journey that we'll see glimpses of Heaven here on earth. I yearn for the divine, spiritual exchange to happen each day in my life. To be completely available to be used by God is one of the hardest things to do. His grace is sufficient and He loves us more than we can imagine.

God is good~
It's been a while since my last post. God's been good~ Over the past 5 months, it's been a journey of sorts. There's nothing quite like the transition from college to being a working young adult. It's been great and I've just been learning a lot and being mentored as well as learning to really live out Christian life biblically. The head knowledge is being tested for the first time outside of the college bubble and it's been great to witness how God is moving in my life.
God is soooo amazingly faithful. God is showing me more and more. I felt like college was so jam-packed with so many things, especially serving and being so involved in college ministry; but this past semester working full-time and still taking part in ministry has been incredibly busy. It's been busy and soo exciting because I feel like God has taught and shown me so many things. So many of the different concepts that were laid in the foundations of my faith have been coming to life in so many ways and I see sanctification, maturity, and God's movement in my life.
I'm maturing and yet still not there. Each day has been filled with so much of God moving. I can see how God gives life abundantly and I know in terms of lifestyle, I always want to be involved with ministry. If not, I feel that life will become dull and a daily grind.
God's been challenging me so much lately and I really feel as if he's laying the ground work in my life and I'm thankful for Pastor Yooey and how much he took care of me and invested in me. I'm also really thankful for the relationships that have grown over these past 5 months for brothers who really have kept me straight in my walk. There's so much more I can write about but it's late and I need sleep.
This is from Remnant Westside Church's Ahav bog which is focused on outreach. Live out the gospel.
I've been listening to "How He Loves" a lot since the end of November. I've been learning more and more just the depth of God's love for me. I've been finding rest and I want to find more rest. I just love this version of How He Loves by Jeremy Riddle.
Behold how great His love is for us. His love that is so deep. Out of all the adjectives that can describe love, furious, wide, long, amazing, there's something about deep that sticks out to me. I do love furious love though as a description of God's love, but when I hear deep, I think of how Christ became fully man and fully God and came down to us. Depth describes a vertical exchange for me. He came down to earth and died so that we might become righteous. God loves us deeply and He is always working for what is very best for us. He loves us through and through.
life & death
Death. The debt that all men pay. This is a serious post in the sense that it's a wake up call. Every now and then, I'm woken up from my routine and a wrench is thrown into the engine of life. Every now and then, a curve ball gets thrown my way.
How do I view death? How do you console someone who's dealing with a loss? How will I react when a close family member passes away? Let's not run away from the reality of life. It will inevitably happen one day. The question is, am I prepared for that day? It will come like a thief in the night. Today is a sad day cause of the loss of a friend's loved one. It's a sad day for me since I have some minuscule connection, but there are a ton of people dying in the world every day that I don't know about and am not saddened by. How does God feel about what's going on in the world? Whenever I'm thrown a curve ball, I look to God and I try to see His perspective. What is it that God's trying to show me? Sounds selfish to think about me.. but I do think that God is always trying to share His heart for us through every moment.
For me, I am reminded about the brevity of life. Life is short. It's not about having this attitude of YOLO (you only live once) because I feel the implied connotation with YOLO is to live without regard for the consequences. I'm reminded that we should be living a live while knowing that death is coming, but in light of this knowledge, live all-out for the kingdom of God. Psalm 90:12 - teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. God's heart is for His children and we are kept by Him. He is the God of all our comfort and He calls us to live life for Him and His glory.
"Lord, I'm thankful that I've come to understand Your heart to a small degree and I ask for more. Give me more and more of Your heart and stretch mine out. Help me to live generously, as salt and light. God, You are good and Your love endures forever. Thank you for who You are. Your son, Jonathan. Amen"
worship because of who He is
Psalm 66
1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name;
make his praise glorious!
3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power
that your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth bows down to you;
they sing praise to you,
they sing praise to your name.”
As I read this psalm today, I asked myself this question: "how do you worship God when you don't feel like it?" When something heavy is on your heart. How do you worship God? How do you sing joyously when your heart is tied by this weight?
The first step: You simply come and lay that weight down at the foot of the cross. You remind yourself why Jesus came to die. You remind yourself at how big the cross is in relation to your issues.
The second step: You proclaim truth. You remind yourself of the biblical perspective. You remind yourself of how much God loves you and that He is completely sovereign.
The third step: You repeat step one and two until God's brought you to that place of joyfully worshiping the Lord with all your heart. No sin can keep us from God. No thing in this world is to heavy for God to lift off of our chest. No issue nor scar is too deep that God cannot heal.
Our joy is affected by our perspective. That is why Christians should always be joyful because when we have that perspective of who we are in relation to God, we become joyful. He is the source of our singing and praise and worship. So sing and make His name glorious! For He is worthy to be praised! God gives us a song to sing and we sing it back to Him, resounding in all the earth of how glorious He is.
