Radiohead - Burn The Witch
@radiohead has a new song and it's insanely great.
Seriously, somewhere right now, Calvin Harris is like "Great Scott! Who gave them their guitars back!?"

SOTD - A$AP Ferg ft. Big Sean - “World is Mine”
I’d say Operation: Learn Something About Hip-Hop is moving along nicely.
This song is ostensibly about infidelity, but damn if the hook doesn’t raise images of Ferguson and other places where black men can’t feel safe:
She tried to tell me that the world is mine I know that ain’t true And even though I want it all I’m young, man, and I got everything to lose
SOTD - Chris Stapleton - “Nothing Compares 2 U”
A Prince tribute that really hit the mark for me. Saw him play at Coachella too and was impressed. The genre Stapleton plays in is a lot closer to “rock” than what we think of today as “country.”
SOTD - SOPHIE, “VYZEE”
Electro sounds like rock music from the future. So why not throw some K-pop vibes on top of that? WHY NOT!?
SOTD - Savages, “Adore”
I really enjoyed their debut album (2013′s Silence Yourself), but somehow missed that Savages is in fact comprised entirely of women, something that’s still all too rare in the indie rock world.
Now they’re back and just as intense as ever. The new clip for “Adore” proves it.
SOTD - Kurt Vile - “Pretty Pimpin”
Somehow, I’ve basically managed to completely ignore Kurt Vile for years. I had no idea he was doing downbeat, bluegrass-infused indie pop. I dig it.
SOTD - Wavves - “My Head Hurts”
It’s like a Ramones or a Weezer for the kids these days. Sample lyric: “But my head hu-u-u-u-urts. And without you it’s wo-o-o-o-orse.”
SOTD - Darren Hayman - Nuns Run the Apothecary
First taste of the new album by one of my all-time favorites. Just a delicate, straight-ahead folk song with the right touch of melancholy.
I would have expected something a little busier and more urbane from an album Hayman written and recorded on his own in an apartment in Florence, Italy owned by friends.
But no. This one rises just above a whisper. It’s perfect.
SOTD - Ryan Adams - Bad Blood
First track off his full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s latest. This is bizarre, but also fun. Because great pop songs are great pop songs, whether synths and beats or an acoustic guitar.
SOTD - Sweet Baboo - You Got Me Time Keeping
Sometimes I don’t think you appreciate my little indie gems here. Then I dig into the depths of NME and come out with a proto-Darren Hayman complete with horns and strings. AND an obscure Peanuts reference.
You’re welcome.
SOTD - Hippo Campus - The Halocline
Did they use this song in the last episode of Falling Skies? Yes. Was Falling Skies ridiculous? Yes. Ridiculously awesome? Yes.
See, now I’ve gone and gotten distracted from an airy gem with just the right amount of crunch from the Minneapolis buzz band.
SOTD - Majical Cloudz - Silver Car Crash
“I will be honest. I am afraid of love.” Devastating.
White - Future Pleasures (BBC 1 Session)
So some up-and-comer Glaswegians realized they could make songs that sound like Franz Ferdinand outtakes and they’d be a great band. Not sure what took them so long.
SOTD - Carly Rae Jepson - “Run Away With Me”
I’m as surprised as you are, but some arresting writing from Kelsey McKinney about the “Call Me Maybe” star’s vibrant and risky new album has me believing. This is a great mainstream pop song.
# SOTD - CHVRCHES - “Leave a Trace”
This song is aces. The video is simple, direct and stylish.
Of course the misogynist internet trolls lost their damn minds.
Consequence of Sound covers how 4chan was slut shaming Ms. Mayberry for...well, I’m not exactly sure. This is the weird thing here. Mayberry is...a woman? Wearing clothes? Who gets her hair wet?
Now I’m being a little coy here, but just a little. Near as I can tell some of these asshats think she deserves every gross insult because she has the nerve to wear not sweat pants. Instead, she puts her best foot forward.
Lord knows I’d wear my best suit and probably tighten the belt a notch if I ever make a salmon’ music video. And no one on 4chan would even notice. That’s what makes it misogyny.
The really depressing part? These comments appeared on the CoS Facebook post.
Glad to know Ed here is not “dismissing the problem,” except of course by, ya know, dismissing the problem.
Oh and here are some comments from the YouTube video itself - ostensibly from the band’s fans.
At least Seanpmurphy2009 got put in his place. mxpsorsist is just a jerk.
So to recap - dirty jokes about the women in bands aren’t OK. They’re actually pretty offensive. It’s 2015, kids.
SOTD - SOAK - “B a noBody”
SOAK’s raw, electric voice will haunt your dreams. In a good way.
Did I mention she’s only 18?
SOTD - Lana Del Rey - “High by the Beach”
This song should be terrible. But it’s not. And the video has a literally killer ending.
