And more loyal than LMK? I mean, the facts are different between the canons, but I feel like they nailed the overlapping characters tbh (aside from Mac, obvs). In a very technical sense, LMK is an AU fic of JTTW. And I def pull from *every* source of media I've encountered that is explicitly in that mythos. (New legends of monkey fans, where yall at?) But more content is a good plan; I've also been meaning to watch Monkey (1978).
Side note: my wife did have to spend like five entire minutes cackling every time she tried to read Red Boy saying "Master!" in Red Son's voice when he's all tied to the tree and whatnot. And *that* was a beautiful experience. She's so donkulously good at the voices, it was *hilarious*
picked up Trigun Stargaze again today at episode 8 (hadn't been watching anything for a while) and it made me so fucking furious that I'm adding more MK& content to TL&T because I am so fucking sick of how media deals with plurality all the goddamn time, like shut the actual fuck up and stop fucking killing people & framing it like it's some good healing thing.
I don't give a shit if their "original purpose" isn't needed anymore. They exist now. They are alive.
It's such an unhinged mindset to just literally murder people because you don't need them anymore and their existence would be an inconvenience for you. And it's constantly touted as the only possible resolution.

Vash is CONSTANTLY on about giving people more chances. This is the anti-murder show, like explicitly. All the fucking time.
Leonof and Midvalley BOTH get redemption sequences (arc would be too generous for them basically showing up and being pacified in the same ep). They both follow the same pattern of 'fight Vash/Wolfwood, get beaten, and end up as part of the Home crew.'
But Razlo? No, of course not. And it's a jarring break in the pattern of the last two former antagonists.
Livio comes back, takes control, and makes this stupid fucking speech about how he's a big boy now and can go on without Razlo. And then fucking murders him. And nobody did shit. Vash didn't speak up at all, even though he stopped Razlo from killing Wolfwood like seconds before this happened.
It's just so disgustingly obvious that the writers don't see alters as actual people.
It would have been so fucking easy for them to change literally just a few lines of the script to be like, "You're in time out for now, Razlo" rather than, "You had your one chance to be good and now ya dead."
Like keep the whole Livio taking control back thing! Keep his little speech about growing up! But also keep Razlo alive. Lock him up til he behaves, sure. That's what they did with Leonof. And then put him to work entertaining the kids sometimes, like you did with the other ex-henches of Knives. Bro has three arms, bet he could juggle like nobody's business! And that's with literally just two seconds of thought about how he could rehabilitate and be useful to them. And he's got major gremlin energy. It would be so much fun to play with that whole 'serious, shy Livio' shifting to 'still-kinda-scary wildman Razlo' when the kids inevitably demand for him to come out. He'd chase them around going 'raaaah' and they would have the time of their lives.
He didn't have to die.
And whoever wrote that episode needs to be fucking slapped.
Took me years to understand that boredom is not the enemy of writing. It is the raw material. Every good idea i have ever had arrived during a walk with no podcast, a train with no phone, a shower where i just stood there. The moment i fill every silence with content i stop generating anything of my own. I am just processing other people's thoughts instead of having mine. The empty space is where the work comes from. Protecting the empty space is the actual job.
