Going a little insane over the Eridian language today. I've been aligning a bunch of the words on a spectrogram to visualize & compare the frequencies and not only does the language remain consistent throughout the film, but the words are enunciated in different ways depending on the context. It sorta can be explained by the whole "squares can be rectangles but rectangles are not squares" rule. Yes, sometimes men dress masculine and present very masculine, hell, some cis women get referred to as he/him and are still women. They're the squares.

Trans men can do the exact same thing, but they aren't squares. They aren't women.

I really like the idea of Bob being specially into whatever makes John insecure. Like, John feels that he 'let himself go' after the divorce (and he has no idea about whatever Bob might be into, except for clichés he might have about gay guys that he knows are clichés) and then there's Bob, who has dreamed about the way the tank top sticks to John after a gym session (regardless if he's got a bit of a belly) and also ponders on the regular how John's beard might feel against his skin, to give a couple of examples.

The day John tries shaving his beard Bob gets this sad kicked puppy look in his eye, even when he tells John he'll look nice without it. John shaves it and Bob is grieving the loss a bit so John decided to keep it stubble length, enough for Bob but also still looking like he takes care of himself.
