My brother randomly told me something that really made me think.
About what "Protect the youth" has become. Idk what it was like in other countries and I know that it very likely could have been stricter than it was in my country back then. But generally:
He was like "When I was 16, there were two kinds of adult content: Horror movies and explicitly depicted sexual content. The first made me have nightmares, the latter (as in what you could get in video rental stores) generally wasn't of much interest to me because it wasn't something I, as a 16 year old, could relate to. And other sexual content that was interesting (and/or helpful) WAS freely accessible. So whenever I saw an "18+" label somewhere, I just completely ignored that content because I knew it wouldn't be interesting at all to me.
But NOW, what's declared 18+ is even an excessive amount of swear words in streams! NOW, when I see an "18+" label, I don't know if it's horror movies that'll give some 16 year olds nightmares, if it's completely unrelatable porn, OR if it's educational sex ed, a 20 year old talking about their really healthy relationship with their partner (that includes intimacy), education about consent in BDSM (which affects 16 year olds as well, there's no age limit to curiosity), a live stream of wholesome musicians who happen to drink a couple of beers during kind of therapeutic talks, or simply people who aren't puritans and say "fuck" a lot! An 18+ label isn't worth anything anymore!"
And yeah... That's just it.
People who talk about body changes during their (first!) puberty are even labelled adult content. Even though puberty very much happens BEFORE adulthood. It's helpful content for minors. And it's labelled "adult" to "protect the youth".
Nothing means anything anymore.
My child, who spends their entire life being transfered from home to car to school and back, and is not allowed to leave the house or talk to anyone and can only in their wildest dreams imagine a life free from constant surveillance, is very sad. Obviously they're dumb and lazy, like all kids these days.
kind of a tangent but i recently went to a bowling alley with my friend i'm 19 he's 18 and the woman at the door didn't want to let us in because there was a sign saying under-18s needed adult supervision. everything got cleared up and we were able to go bowl, but i'm still so mad about the fact that kids need adult supervision to go to a bowling alley and arcade. like okay maybe young kids should have supervision but what do you mean middle and high schoolers need to hold mommy's hand while they play video games. kids aren't just addicted to their phones because phones are addicting, we're addicted to our phones because there's nothing else to fucking do
I'm sure banning kids from online spaces while simultaneously not ensuring that they have access to offline spaces to socialize in (without having to rely on their parents who already don't have time for them) will help them feel better & less alienated from society.
A german trans guy I follow on tiktok recently shared that he has a habit of telling people a random women's name when they ask about his deadname and one time he used a fake name when referring to his pre-transition self in a skit and to this day he still gets trolls in his comments calling him by that name thinking they're hitting a nerve, meanwhile it's just some random ass name he came up with on the spot. If anyone needs a fun strategy for messing with transphobes.
Remember when people demonized protesters because "What if an emergency vehicle is trying to get through?"?
Well, here we have ICE literally blocking emergency personnel from attending to an emergency.
So, when are ICE going to be classified as monsters the same way protesters have been?
The best response to that sort of bullshit from a villain.
Just want to point out that this was a hit directly to his solar plexus, which means realistically heād probably be winded (due to reflex diaphragmatic spasm) and on the ground groaning and struggling to take gasping breaths immediately after. Some people also gag following a hit like this, so thereās also that.Ā Ā
One of the most realistic depictions of a hit like this that Iāve ever seen in animation was when Jeremy gets punched in the solar plexus in Smiling Friends, if anyone wants a non-real life example. Skip to about 10 seconds in for the relevant scene.Ā
Dot knew exactly where to aim that punch to 1) not knock him out (presumably in case she had the opportunity to question him further) and 2) make it really fucking suck for Mandroid.Ā
Itās sort of interesting that there was plenty of time for Mandroid to react-- Dot has to run up a bit on him to make contact with this punch, so it was telegraphed-- but his only response is to throw his arms wide open upon being hit, as if he doesnāt have any idea what to do except maybe grapple her if he can grab her. The hit still startled him.Ā
Which makes sense; Mandroid is a scientist, and we donāt know if he ever had any field experience or combat training during the war.Ā
I just really like this little scene because itās a quick action sequence that is really effective in emphasising character via their fighting styles, or lack thereof in Mandroidās case here.Ā
Dot was a soldier. Sheās a fast thinker, and assesses situations on the fly. She takes the initiative, and follows through effectively. She takes action with precision, but does so with speed, which we see several times in different scenes throughout the series so far. And we see that here, in how she intentionally aimed this punch, how she walked up on Mandroid without hesitation. One fluid movement.Ā
Mandroid is an extremely bitter tech lab nerd. He doesnāt necessarily know how to react to being directly physically engaged with like this. He fully expected to be able to finish his sentence at the very least, but heās a think first act later kind of person-- Slower, more methodical. Dot tends to do both thinking and taking action simultaneously. His approach to battle and how he thinks about physical conflict is very different from how a former soldier will read a situation.Ā
Also, itās just really fun to see Dot level this dude in about a second, lmao.Ā
I know that hit had to hurt so fucking bad.Ā
Oh thanks but what the fuck does any of that mean
You have to be fucking kidding me. These are all Dr Seuss words. Youāre communicating with me from the Dr Seuss dimension.
kitty perfect weight for picking up for cuddles! kitty very Soft and warm and will purr comfortably in your arms. Pick up kitty. no problems ever when picking up kitty because good weight and size for picking up after surgery.
some of you have GOT to get comfortable with lying and situational morality and i'm not kidding
Is this like anything, I kinda like it when soundwave turns into a kinda nothing brick
"there's a guy in the walls" movies exist in a universe that I fucking WISH was real. imagine how easy it would be to install stuff in walls if the space behind a wall was not 3.5 inches/8.9 cm deep and I could get my whole self in there. of course that would mean a guy could get in there too, but what are the odds.
<currently blogging from inside this idiot's walls>
PLEASE help me feed these ethernet cables downstairs or I'm gonna kill myself before you get a crack at me
thread it down here champ, we'll get this installed come hell or high water
you are the best scary murderer who could have ever crawled into my walls
beastformer!Shockwave concept art, his altmode is a giant isopod!
idk i just feel like "it is more acceptable and in fact encouraged to mock anything enjoyed primarily by women" and "being enjoyed primarily by women does not make thing feminist and righteous" are thoughts that can and should coexist
oh and also "even if the thing is bad your criticism of it can come from a place of patronising misogyny"
with the way high school positions you to think that you need to decide on the rest of your life as a seventeen year old i think troy bolton was well within his right to be flinging himself across walls and visualising hundreds of basketballs falling from the sky to attack him and shit
the type of mental anguish only a seventeen year old who wont be taking a gap year after school will experience
Okay enough laughing, everyone get wack to bork.
