not naming names but some of you are so creative and talented it's an honor to have you in my phone
im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
throwback to the time I saw someone complain that 'Hairspray' had racial slurs in it...
It’s interesting to see how male reviewers I’ve watched on YT over the years view Obsession (2026) and by ‘interesting’ I mean it’s kinda exhausting.
I listened to Spill.com, before it became Double Toasted, when I was a kid (and that was probably not good for me in hindsight) and those guys are way too misogynistic to give a fair assessment of the film. Doug Walker maligns how Bear is ‘too stupid’ for much of the film to realize what’s happening but it’s not that at all — Bear is aware in the very beginning that the wish is the explanation for Nikki’s sudden changed behavior but he enjoys how she’s all about him and leans very hard on the absurdity of magic being real to justify letting things play out. I wouldn’t even watch Jeremy Jahns review of it after he literally said he’d prefer to have a son if he had a child because he “wants his kid to be awesome”. Never liked that guy since.
Even James A. Janisse from Kill Count responds to Chelsea Rebecca, his wife and co-host, trying to bring up how the film has affected women viscerally with “well I think for men too. It goes both ways” in their podcast recap.
It’s just… they really can’t escape their own shortcomings. They just can’t see it and don’t try. Fucks with me.
Rbing this bc I just learned that Alex Meyers, a guy that reviews mainly kids’ movies and has that white blob avatar that is constantly in motion, became the final boss of misogynistic reviewers for Obsession and WOWWWWWWW
O_O Dude won the gold medal by defending Bear at every possible turn that it almost makes the other examples of misogyny from male reviewers above look like nothing. Holy shit.
I'm crying whose idea was this. I can't imagine it was Cinderace's
I didn't promise anybody anything. What do I know about Hollywood, anyway? Just a dream I got from sitting through too many double features. So why did you leave the swamp in the first place? 'Cause some agent fella said I had talent. He probably says that to everybody. On the other hand, if you hadn't left the swamp, you'd be feeling pretty miserable anyhow. Yeah. But then it would just be me feeling miserable. Now I got a lady pig, and a bear, and a chicken, a dog, a thing, whatever Gonzo is. He's a little like a turkey. Mmm, yeah. A little like a turkey, but not much. No I guess not. Anyhow, I brought them all out here to the middle of nowhere, and it's all my fault. Still, whether you promised them something or not, you gotta remember they wanted to come. But that's because they believed in me. No, they believed in the dream. Well, so do I, but... You do? Yeah, of course I do. Well then?
