Lululemon Nulux not Yo Mamma’s Luxtreme
Ok so a few weeks ago my homegirls at the Lululemon Lancaster reached out to me and said they had a surprise that was sort of Naked!?....I had to admit I was super curious and assumed there was some new mesh awesomeness waiting for me. When I arrived and they handed me a pair of black capri’s and stated they were for “running” I started to laugh, actually it was more of a perplexed hysterical cackle.
Let me give you some context. I HATE running in pants, capris, basically anything that covers my legs AT ALL!!! I only wear pants in the winter time because basically I don't want to freeze. My local Lululemon crew knows that I have had a love hate relationship with Luxtreme forever. Let’s be honest Luxtreme looks cool, it’s relatively easy to care for, it holds up well but...if you are running longer than 3 miles it’s a whole new world. It’s a bit abrasive for long runs, it doesn’t breath all that well, and the seaming has always been HIGH DRAMA for me mostly because in an effort to keep the designs fashion forward there are usually seams EVERYWHERE! Across the legs for fabric transitions, up and down the sides for pockets, all over the crotch (don’t lie you know what I’m taking about) and all those seems mixed with sweat mixed with long runs means CHAFING! So given that background you can understand why I was more than skeptical when they handed me a pair of these new Magical Crops and asked me to try them out.
I literally had every excuse prepared...”It’s April it’s too hot for them”, “I only wear shorts to run”, “You know I hate seams” on and on with excuse after excuse until finally Heather convinced me to give them a try. So here’s what I did... 2 long runs One outside in the Cold last week in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, and the other a 1 hour treadmill Hill Repeat session, One super sweaty Soul Cycle class, and this evening a transition run off the bike at the track. The temperatures of said training sessions spanned everything to windy and cold to crazy hot and humid.
So after all that, what do I think of Nulux?
I actually love it! its hard to describe the feeling of the fabric but this is definitely NOT your Mamma’s Luxtreme, it’s absolutely a completely different fabric for sure! It’s not compressive but its tight, it breathes well, holds up after several washes, looks cool and above all else somehow they have MAGICALLY made the seams feel seamless which is weird because there are super convenient pockets everywhere on them.
I was sold when I took them on a 5 mile cold and windy run through Beacon Hill last week and then immediately while sweaty, and wind whipped straight in to an hour long Soul Cycle Sweat-a-Thon...this should have been chafe central for a pair of capris. I sweated my ass off on a spin bike that was mediocrely positioned after a five mile run and I literally forgot I was wearing them.
BUT there has to be something I would change Right?! Ok, so if I have any feedback it’s the following:
1.Lets get these in some shorts. I think the fabric would translate well in to a short short... its about to be summer kids!
2. Why’s everything got to be HIGH WAIST all the time, I found myself wanting to roll them down.
3.You don’t need the drawstring
So bottom line....I love the new fabric, Nulux absolutely feels naked, I congratulate whatever genius at Lululemon fixed the seams (you deserve a raise) and I may actually start wearing pants... occasionally!
