A theory other than the fragment model and the disintegration model
The fragment model is what suggests trauma is required. It basically states that severe trauma fractures the sense of self.
The disintegration model is a model that suggests that the identity is fragmented from the start and during typical neurodevelopment the fragments integrate. It does not require trauma and neither does the DSM-V or the ICD-11.

Neither state a requirement for trauma to be diagnosed nor describe it as what a lot of anti-endos say; that theres no required trauma because of the possibility of people of people forgetting their trauma. I swear to you. If they meant that then the diagnostic manual and the International Classification of Disease would EXPLICITLY state that.
