the thing about danlou in tvl is that the resentment set up was right there without the purposeless vile racism. daniel published the book after louis said he didnt want it published, why shouldnt louis feel betrayed?? why wouldn't louis see daniel as yet another thing armand has taken from him? daniel, the one person he felt safe with after paris, is now forever beholden to armand. you mean to tell me every time louis looks into those armand orange eyes he doesn't feel a soul crushing sense of betrayal??? but after all this, i think louis would have still been sympathetic to daniels abandonment… its truly ridiculous to me that tvl has managed to be somehow even more nonchalant about characters doing "bad" things than the books where everyone forgives each other eventually. no action or betrayal is given weight because they're all vampires so they should just get over it. therefore, the characters must keep hurting each other as a justification for any existing resentment. to the writers, daniel has to make racist remarks about louis to justify why they're not friends anymore, even though its nonsensical and cruel.
2x08 title ‘and that’s the end of it. There’s nothing else’ more true and prophetic than we knew
they’re so fun i’d like to see these ukes duke it out on a mattress
Imagine if show! Armand had found liberation in Louis, the black man who seemed both free and trapped by an unknown past. Imagine if their love felt revolutionary to them both because they could see the possibilities of existing outside a racist/colonialist romantic and sexual framework. Imagine if it had been beautiful for a short, blazing moment- before the betrayal, before the trial, before Lestat. And Armand stayed with Louis despite the monstrosity of his lie, because he was desperate to continue that feeling of freedom (before it all curdled and he and Louis self harm by throwing the same painful racialised barbs at each other that had been inflicted on them.)
Imagine if Armand had finally turned his fury on Lestat, the white man who first upended his life in Paris, who reminded him so much of Marius, his rapist, his groomer, his maker. Marius, the imperialist collector who spent centuries collecting black and brown people for his own paternalistic enjoyment. Who left him alone when Armand was stolen yet again, and forced to learn a new doctrine and religion yet again, and forced to lose his mother tongue, his name, his purpose, save for exalting the purity of Christian whiteness by being its opposite. The same supremacist doctrine that inevitably destroyed not only his life, but Louis’s.
Imagine if through the Devil’s Minion, Armand forced Daniel to learn about him, about what he lost, about the culture he’s forever alienated from, not just through Marius, but through colonialism, violence, the Partition, time itself. If he showed him the horror of loneliness through being stolen from your own people and never able to come home. Of not even being able to know the proper ways in which to mourn. Not even having the language to state the enormity of his loss. Imagine if he broke Daniel down to reshape him in his image, to make him into the worshipper he so craves, to tell him that he’s good and pure (always as a form of self harm, he knows what he is).
Imagine if the show for a moment cared about Armand in a way that mattered.
In my opinion there’s no saving TVL. There are a few crumbs of interesting ideas, but overall it destroyed everything of substance. It was an actual nuke.
The only way to “save” the characterizations for QOTD would be for them to say TVL was a fever dream or an in-universe IWTV fanfic. To entirely decanonize it, which AMC will never do.
But even if they did, that wouldn’t erase the impact. TVL was actively harmful: full to the brim of antiblackness, abuse apologia, anti asian ideology, misogyny, etc. Its vitriol towards the fans, actors, and writers who made IWTV great, was overwhelming. Even if they sweeped the writers’ room and got a new new showrunner, there’s no erasing that something as deeply racist as TVL was created and thought okay to release in the first place.
the thing that really throws me about tvl’s approach to loumand is that the writers have seemingly forgotten how integral compromise was to their relationship. both louis and armand entered into companionship with the justification that it was the best they could do. they both bought into that distorted attachment in exchange for an end to loneliness. there was love, resentment, jealousy, and most importantly, maintenance. you don’t just stumble into 70 years of marriage on accident. are you really gonna sit here and tell me that the same armand who pruned louis’s bad memories like weeds and completely rewrote san francisco (all to maintain the peace of their already rocky marriage) would give a shit about something like unrequited love? he knows louis resents him! it’s just so wild that they’ve taken this concept of unconditional, fairytale romance and made it the arbiter of what does and does not count as love between characters. so toothless.
Rolin saying he doesn’t think Claudia actually screamed for Louis when he was being dragged away during the trial…… Rolin hates LouClaudia so much. If he had his way, Claudia would’ve been behind the lynching herself. Lestat was actually saving Louis from her clutches…..
this being buzzier than anything we got in s3 in terms of romance

there's a lot to be said when a white european ginger christian character that's known for his breathtaking beauty and labelled an angel for it in a book series is race bent into a brown muslim character and suddenly he's no longer an angel or beautiful but a crazy psychotic gremlin that's repeatedly kicked down for being submissive in bed and his childhood sexual abuse and exploitation is thrown back at him everytime by (mostly) white characters and his religiosity is suddenly nowhere to be found but is conveniently repeatedly compared to nazis in various ways and is considered a failure of a bisexual man because again he is submissive and recipient in bed rather than a promiscuous masculine bisexual man that everybody fawns over (lestat) and again he was a victim of pedophilia sexual slavery and racism but his ideal partner that would "cradle him" is an old grandpa white man who's a racist rapist that calls him a rent boy and a submissive twink sociopath.
give the writers all the awards yall they deserve them!
tvl writers trying to retroactively turn loumand bdsm into something it wasnt so daniel "yaoi manther" "used a student aggressively" dubious consent marius lite molloy can swoop in and be the perfect daddy dom for armand
