Entry for the Rebel Nature WAVEBUILT contest

This massive robot was built to consume the mountains of plastic in the ocean with the goal of re-shaping it into structures for coral to attach to and create new coral reefs.

As it has spent more time in the ocean, other plastic-consuming algae have latched onto the Reef Builder, visible here as the blue deposits on the otherwise silver armor. Under certain circumstances, the algae will glow in the dark of the ocean, turning the otherwise quite frightening robot into a spectacle of sheer beauty.

I love how the Ignition era recontextualized the Toa Mata's power and prowess as warriors.

Like the matoran, they were created for one task. They were intensively traned in that task. And they were told that this task was more important than them. And then they were packed away like tools in a toolshed, never knowing when - or even if - there'll be need for their use.

They were created to be things. Or rather:

Incarnations of elements, of phenomens from nature, were thought be things to be used. How cruel. How foolish.

Honestly I like to imagine that Xia is actually more cyberpunk that Metru Nui. Like there are giant Blade Runner-style holograms advertising the latest ridiculous weapons the Vortixx have come up with, and basically-hovercars flying between buildings, and a "luxury district"* where all the company-owners and stuff live, with like Matoran and Steltian Bruiser servants and stuff.
