What’s a Catholic top 10 aura maxxing moment, though Catholics also love referencing the St. Nicholas punching Arius incident as well
It seems there’s some strong contenders here. After review I also thought of St. Peter Martyr being struck on the head by an assassin and writing “Credo in unum Deum” with his own blood on the ground, as well as St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows scaring off bandits with his handgun skills. Bl. Miguel Pro also T-posing on the haters when he was martyred as well
I would like to add to St. Lawrence's execution the reason why he was being executed in the first place. The Emperor demanded all the treasures of the church, so Lawrence rounds up a bunch of Widows, Orphans, Disabled, and other destitute people and says "these are the treasures of the church" and the emperor got so mad he had him grilled alive.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL
“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”
My mom learned it because she figured she’ll go deaf when she gets old
My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.
The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.
For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.
https://www.youtube.com/user/billvicars
and here’s the link to the website he puts in his videos:
https://www.lifeprint.com/
Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.
Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldn’t have otherwise know I was making.
He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way it’s actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms
His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.
Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore
And it’s all FREE. Seriously. If you’ve ever wanted to learn ASL

As one of eight kids, I don't think I can describe just how it comes across when you play the shocked-and-judgemental "she had HOW many kids??" card. There's this weird calculation to it that I don't think anyone intends, but reads emotionally as an intrinsic threat. Like, okay, hi I'm number five. Am I too many? Do you want me to Not Exist?
Yall????? omfg???? If you're a historical artist you NEED to look at what I just found because A BUNCH OF ORIGINAL SOURCES ON CLOTHING RANGING FROM MEDIEVAL TIMES TO THE 20TH CENTURY??? Don't really know who to ask, uhhh. @margindoodles2407, and anyone else who's interested I guess
‘I have often noticed that it is the worst of our being six—people think six a great many, when it’s children. That sentence looks wrong somehow. I mean they don’t mind six pairs of boots, or six pounds of apples, or six oranges, especially in equations, but they seem to think you ought not to have five brothers and sisters.’
— The Story of the Treasure Seekers by Edith Nesbit
After my Tod is Grace and Copper is Simon post this just felt right idk do I even need to explain this one? (I haven't read the book yet so I don't know how much she regretted it in the book)
But her lip shaking in the movie...she really didn't want to have to do it but she made the hard choice even if it hurt both of them. Eva Stratt you mean so much to me but you make my chest hurt </3
Yes, Eva Stratt is Widow Tweed; Isolated, keeping herself seperate from other people but made the difficult decisions because she knew they were the right decision and someone had to do it.
Why is she widowed you might ask? Well, earth was her husband.
The first draft philosophy that has finally gotten me writing for fun isn't "worst version of story" type framing, it's "tell the story to yourself."
Your story isn't ready for polished prose, you don't know what happens yet. This doesn't make it Bad Writing, it's a different type of writing. And this ties into why I think the plotter vs pantser debate misses the mark - both detailed outlines AND make-it-up-as-you-go first drafts are ways to make up the story. This part is for you, so how you do it should be whatever is the most fun or satisfying way to tell yourself the story.
I have gotten some replies on this saying that the good prose IS the most satisfying way to tell themselves the story. Do you want to experience the prose, or do you want to build the prose? These are two different things. If you are more a reader than a writer, that's alright, you just either have to find the kind of stories you want to enjoy or shift your perception of the story-telling-to-yourself process. You can't manifest good prose out of thin air. You need to at least plan out the markers. The good prose is a second, or even third draft thing. It's okay to enjoy editing more than drafting, but drafting needs to be accepted if you want the former.
in a kill it with your sword kill it with your sword amen mood today
I can't remember if I've articulated this on here before but Genesis 2:19-21 touches something deep within my soul as both a paleobiology enthusiast and a Catholic.
So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field...
Because. I just can't help but think of the delight of God as He created all these creatures-- that wouldn't even LIVE at the same time as Man-- thinking about how much joy it would bring us to discover them, and try to piece them together, and learn as much as we possibly can about them, and give them names. And I can't help but think of the delight of God to create these creatures, knowing that little children made in His Image millions of years later would clutch their little facsimiles, whose accuracy to the real thing is something only He truly knows, and have their favorites of His long-distant creatures despite having never seen them with their own eyes. And I find that infinitely more compelling, and more true to the nature of God, than the thought that he put the bones of imaginary creatures into the earth to deceive His children about the age of the universe.
