Why is it so hard for “ex-transgender” detransitioners turned radfem to admit “I made a mistake.” Why does all of society need to be dragged into it and blamed for everything that went wrong. You can just say “I came to the wrong conclusion with the information I had at the time.” You don’t have to go “SOCIETY MADE ME DO THIS!!!11! I WAS MADE A VICTIM BY EVIL SOCIETY!!1!!” just because you can’t take responsibility for the decisions you’ve made for yourself.

So they come to the realization they were wrong to think they were transgender, and transitioning isn’t making them feel better, but even worse. They’re angry, they’re hurt, they feel betrayed and their sense of self is shaken and unstable, and they want answers for why this happened. Reasonable people will give them complex answers that involve looking at oneself to try to understand how their feelings at the time led them to this conclusion, but radfems offer a much easier answer that requires no self-insight, no responsibility, no icky painful hard truths: just place blame. Blame society. Blame transgender people. Blame everyone that isn’t them so they’ll have an outlet for their anger. Extremist groups like radfems prey on these kinds of insecure people that are lost and desperate to latch onto something. They validate all their hurt feelings and protect them from having to face the consequences of their mistake, so it’s easy to latch onto.

But the truth is, there is no one to “blame.” No one held a gun to your head, and you didn’t do this to yourself just to self-destruct. You live in an age of information all around you, and some of those pieces resonated with you. So you chose this path. You were wrong. You should be able to accept that, as well as forgive yourself for not knowing better at the time.

You’re also an adult who needs to take responsibility for themselves. Not just the past mistakes, but the mistakes you are about to make by turning to hatred against people who did nothing to you. Because your diagnosis being wrong doesn’t make other people’s diagnoses wrong. And your hurt doesn’t validate you hurting other people. You can’t make this matter easier by making it so black and white. It’s too complex for that, and it demands a more complex answer than turning one group into The Enemy and blaming everything on them.

I actually did a study on this in my freshman year of university!

I had to give a ten minute presentation on gender and a) how it’s different from sex, and b) whether or not there’s such thing as a “male” and “female” brain.

I found COUNTLESS studies supporting the idea that the brain itself is unisex- there is very little, if any, difference between “male” and “female” brains, with one exception. I’m by no means a neuroscientist but this is what I understood from this particular article: there’s this tiny part of the hypothalamus (a small part of the brain) that has neutrons in it, and the number of neutrons varies. HOWEVER, when the brains of cis men and women and trans men and women (who had not taken hormones for years prior to the time of death) were studied, it was found that the cis men and trans men had almost identical average neutron counts, and the cis women and trans women had almost identical average neutron counts. So if you’re DMAB but realize at some point that you’re a trans woman, as far as your brain is concerned, you ARE a woman! The same goes for DFAB trans men (intersex/nonbinary individuals weren’t studied, unfortunately).

TLDR; Your brain doesn’t care what you were “born as”, only what you really are!

As someone who is a few months away from a degree in psychology and biology I can tell you that hard, black-and-white binaries hardly exist in either of those sciences. Putting things into clear-cut categories is 100% a human society thing, not something that actually exists in nature or in the human brain.

From what I’ve learned from my time in the community:

One is not in the LGBTQ+ community if they are strictly and solely heterosexual, heteromantic, and cisgender. Note that this may not include intersex individuals (sorry it’s orange and not yellow, tumblr doesn’t have yellow pigments 😑), as some do identify as cisgender (regarding the ridiculous gender binary).

This does not mean that asexuals are not LGBTQ+; we are, because we are not heterosexual. This also means that aromantics are part of the LGBTQ+ community, as they are not heteromantic. All subsets of these two are also LGBTQ+.

Cishets are only able to be allies, and anyone who is not heterosexual, heteromantic, and cisgender, all three must apply, is LGBTQ+.

I’m spelling it out so explicitly bc so many people don’t understand this.

My advice? Just look at the person like they’re an idiot and, in the deepest voice possible, say, “Uh. Alright, then.”
