Annual Writing Event
November 1 - 30
National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo)
For The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fandom
All Ages & All Content Welcome
Blog SFW w/ Tags for Easy Filtering
Use the #turtlewrimo tag on your project!
Five months after the first Turtle Wri-Mo will be Turtle Com-Mo... an event for all readers to participate in! Maybe you just enjoy the TMNT fandom, perhaps you're an artist, or possibly you're a writer who was so focused on writing you didn't get to stop and enjoy reading too! Regardless, this event is for everyone to help build community and support others!
To participate is simple... just leave a comment on a fic, be it one-shot or a chapter, to let the writer know they are not alone and others are reading their stories!
Are there Participant Badges?
Of course! Choose your favorite turtle!
Any milestones or goals?
1st day, 3 days in a row, 1-week streak, 2-weeks streak, 3-weeks streak, 4-week streak, and All 30 Days!
Are there any other Badges?
One for every day you participate! Also... while this is on the honor system, sometimes real-life gets in the way. As long as you comment on average at least once daily, go ahead and grab yourself a badge! (For example... if you're busy with Easter on April 5th, feel free to comment on two fics the next day and reclaim both 5th and 6th! The main point is that comments are being left and, besides, timezones are a thing!)
(Which apparently I have to put in a different post since Tumblr limits up to 30 images!)

We encourage folks to not only post comments, but to screen cap your comment and link to the fics that excite you on all your TMNT-friendly social media accounts.
Thank you All!!--writers and spectators--for participating in this first TurtleWrimo event. I'm very proud of everyone for all their hard work! Y'all really knocked it out of the park this year. If you even threw your hat in the ring to try this year, please feel free to use the YEAR ONE badge. You're a founding member!
If you would like to participate next year, I'll be posting updates on a dedicated Turtlewrimo Blog on tumblr & a matching Turtlewrimo account on Bluesky. I'll be reblogging those updates to this blog and to my personal Bluesky, of course, but to get a broader (unfiltered) audience and keep info all in one place, the official posts will originate on Turtlewrimo accounts in 2026.
Speaking of 2026... I'm VERY interested in FEEDBACK. Reply or Reblog with your thoughts, so I can incorporate it in next year's plans.
⭐ Fic going on Ao3? Please include "turtlewrimo" in your tags so folks can find your work! ⭐
I think graphs and data are cool, so here's what I can share from our first year writing together!
TURTLEWRIMO 2025 EVENT RESULTS!!
30 Days of November 2025!
Eleven (11) folks used the group graph on TrackBear. (All identifying info removed for privacy.)
The graph is set up for "percentage" of each person's goal, since not everyone was going for 50k words. Some folks even logged their progress by "number of completed scenes." Each person's progress is one of the colored lines. Each dot on a line is a reported increase in their project progress.
In total, the reporting TurtleWrimo writers generated at least 302,706 words of TMNT Content!
On average, each person wrote 27,518 words.
The median word count was 27,413 words.
There were 80 different badge graphics generated, including the "I hit my goal!" banner.
Here's the links to all those badges under the readmore. Feel free to use them on your TurtleWrimo project updates that may continue after November is over!

MY GOALS POST!! WooooHOOO!!!
Hi hi! I'm Kyabetsu. You can call me Kya. (she/her)
In addition to making badges & posts this year, I'm also gonna do TurtleWrimo right alongside the rest of y'all. :3
Man, oh man. Goals for Turtlewrimo. Big personal goals make me nervous, you know? What if I don't make it? Hahaha, but I gotta be brave, right? Because... what if I do it??? I wanna do it, right? Why not? I've did 50k in November one time before. I bet I can do it again!
This Nov, I will add 50k words to my WIP.
It'd be cool to also "Write Every Day."
It'd be cool to also "Finish My WIP."
But those are the Bonus levels, I think. I'm gonna focus on the most important parts: Getting The Words Out.
What about you?
What are you hoping to do for TurtleWrimo?

MY INTRO POST!! LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!
Hi hi! I'm Kyabetsu. You can call me Kya. (she/her)
In addition to making badges & posts this year, I'm also gonna do TurtleWrimo right alongside the rest of y'all. :3
I'm a Veteran of Nanowrimo and of writing TMNT fanfic. You can find what i've posted over the years under 'kyabetsu' at both ff net and Ao3. I've done Nano a bunch of times, but have only ever won with the '50k in 30 days' once.
I did 'win' on my own terms back in 2017. I wrote every day during the challenge. Even if i didn't hit 50k at the end, that consistency really did wonders for my confidence as a writer. I wish y'all the same good vibes from your own projects!
This year, I'm gonna say I'm a Canon Fan. I'll be trying to blend 2 Turtles' universe canons together. More on that later! ;)
And I definitely have a plan... but we all know it won't survive first contact. Cross your fingers that my Strategy's bones are strong enough to carry me through the end of the fic!
Feel free to ping me throughout November. I love a good TMNT distraction conversation. :D
Look for the first wave of ACHIEVEMENT badges to go out before Nov 1. Y'all're gonna need some of them right away!
Best of luck during TurtleWrimo!

Here's my Goals Post!
I’m sorry if I sound a tinsy bit stupid for this, but I’m not quite getting how the badges work, actually how the whole event works. But first, can we start before November? Or is it just a thing of only post about it during November?
Also how do the badges work? Like when we make post about the event do we post it with the badges that apply?
Please use ":readmore:" (without the quotes & in a new paragraph) to hide any story excerpts you choose to share behind a cut.
How would this be put into an effect? (Sorry if that sounds dumb)
I apologize for the long ask, I’ve never done something like this before so idk how anything works yet
Thanks for reading my ask! Have a good day!!!
Hi hi, Lartiel,
Oh goodness, I'm happy to answer asks! These are entirely reasonable, very good questions. I bet plenty of folks have these same questions! I'll take it from the top, okay?
1. When can we start TurtleWrimo... ?
Planning your project(s) - Any time you want.
Posting about your goal & hopes - Any time you want.
Writing - Officially, November 1
Counting the words and/or days written - Firmly, November 1
Posting snippets from & updates about your work - November 1
2. How do TurtleWrimo Badges?
How to earn badge? - Did you do the thing? You earned badge.
How to get badge? - Click save. Take. Like squirrel. Swipe. Yoink.
How to use badge? - When you post about your TurtleWrimo project, use the badges you've earned on your posts to make them extra fancy. For example, perhaps you'll earn the '3 DAY STREAK' badge. Then you can post it along with your TurtleWrimo thoughts on tumblr, on bluesky, on discord servers, or other blogs and chats where you talk turtles.
3. What kinds of posts ...?
This is entirely up to you, but the goal is to both give and receive supportive vibes, comments, and discussion between TMNT fan authors. Writing can feel lonely! But if we're all writing together, the energy and enthusiasm spreads out between us all.
Here's some post options ...
Intro-style! There's Starting Line badges to give folks some fast facts about you as an author. But you can elaborate and really open the door to new friendships.
Participation & Goal Share! Use these badges to tell us... whatcha doing? Which TMNT iteration(s) will you be working with? What're you hoping to do this TurtleWrimo?
Ohhh, tell us more! Use the Genre badges to spiffy up a post about your general idea. What kinda story? What kinda plot? Will there be explosions? Aliens? Bears? Are we going to break into the Louvre? (Again?)
And then ACHIEVEMENT badges! (Which i have not, as of 10/29/25 12:05am (EST), posted yet. Soon, though!) You can post "I DID THE THING!" and just the badge. Or you can wax lyrical and tootle a little limerick about your achievement. We will cheer. I promise. We are so proud of you.
4. What's a ReadMore?
A ReadMore is lets you hide content, like a spoiler or sensitive topics. It can also trim down longer posts, like long lists or longer fanfiction or character info or lore or ... me. I'm going to use one!
THIS IS WHERE THE TRIGGER WARNINGS GO. If I'm like, "Under the readmore, I'll tell you all about deadly prion disease in deer!," my readers can nope out and never click the readmore link. Or they can click it because sometimes people wanna know.
Here's my warning for THIS readmore link:
When you click it, you will see the text and pictures that explain how to make a readmore link.
There's two ways to put a readmore in your posts:
1. THE ICON! On desktop, this is easiest. That last gray icon on the list--the straight line, squiggly line, straight line--is your ReadMore cut.
On an iOS tablet app, it looks slightly different. The menu's found at the bottom of the post editor. But you still want the squiggle sandwich down there at the end.
2. ON THE MOBILE APP! Type the text, ":readmore:" without the quotes & in a new paragraph. That will add the "keep reading" link.
5. Why a ReadMore & not "Keep Reading?"
Because Kya is old and remembers this function from LiveJournal, where it did the same thing, but the text it added to your post was "Read More." It was an "LJ-CUT" command and when you clicked it, you 'jumped' to the full-size post. So some folks call it a cut. Or a readmore. Or a jump.
It's like how the "Save" button on a bunch of programs used to look like a floppy disk through the year 2020 even though computers haven't had disk drives for over a decade now. Some stuff just sticks.
.
I hope that answers all your questions, Lartiel! I'll be posting my own intro posts and things soon. As well as reblogging anyone else's I see on the #TurtleWrimo & #TurtleWrimo 2025 tags! So there'll soon be some examples for folks to see. <3
Good Night and Good Luck!

Let's talk about TCEST & other SQUICKS.
Sometimes folks write about stuff we don't like: squicks (ew! yucky!) and triggers (panic attack!) They are 100% allowed to do that, no matter how strongly we feel.
Sometime you want to write about stuff that scares folks or that grosses others out. Writing it doesn't make you a scary or gross person! But doesn't mean that everyone wants to read it.
The best way to have happy writers and happy readers is to USE TAGS and FILTER BY TAGS!
Here's the tumblr help page that explains how to apply tag filters to your dashboard. Folks can cover up any post with a #keyword tag they don't want to see.
Let's say you don't vibe with TCEST.
You'd follow the instructions above, and enter not only the word "TCEST," but also all the ways that other people tend to spell it. To be helpful, I've made you a list:
TCEST
Tcest
tcest
T-CEST
T-cest
t-cest
You may also want to enter words like 'Turtlecest' and 'Incest' (just like i wrote them with uppercase initial letters) and then again both in all caps and in all lowercase letters. This will also work for any other tags you don't want to read about! Gore? Murder? Assaults? Or even just little things that are your own personal weirdness... like pigs or needles or abandoned buildings.
Why do all this?
You can't stop this stuff from existing.
You can't stop people from writing it or disliking it.
People who write squicky or triggering stuff will tag their work.
People who can't handle it will filter it out.
We can all share without crossing each other's boundaries.
I am posting this because... I want you to be able to fearlessly click the 'follow' button next to the #TURTLEWRIMO and #TURTLEWRIMO 2025 tags.
You won't see things you don't want to see AND no one will harass you about what you post.
I will send this post around a few times so there's lots of awareness here. I want people to have a good time. And... because I know that Turtlecest is a popular genre with plenty of TMNT writers... there is a completely G-rated TCEST TURTLEWRIMO badge.
I want to post it with the tag--I PROMISE, WITH THE TAG--and know that only the folks who want to are going to see it.
--Kya, who values your boundaries.

Here's my Goals Post!
Let your readers know how you roll. 3 options for each!
Don't forget to use the #TurtleWrimo 2025 Hashtag when you post!
Are you a Newbie or a Veteran?
If you've never written a TMNT fanfic or you've never tried a 'nanowrimo' style challenge in November? Don't sweat it. We all start somewhere! Grab a Newbie badge! We're thrilled to have you. We believe in you!
If you've got a TMNT fanfic or two under your belt or if you're an old hand at the 50k in 30days challenge? We know you've been around the block, done a few rodeos, and seen some ...stuff. Grab a Veteran badge! You've done it before, we know you can do it again!
Are you an AU Author or a Canon Fan?
Maybe you love going off the beaten path. Maybe you love asking "what if…?" Maybe you're wired for weird. Take an AU Author badge and aim for the stars!
Oh, there's different ways to use imagination! Folks with the discipline and the focus to build canon-compliant fics need the love, too. If you assemble an in-universe plot with the precision of a watchmaker? Take a Canon Fan badge and wear it with pride!
Do you have a Strategy or is it Goongala!?
If you spend the run up to writing making notes and stringing red yarn between pushpins on your elaborate plot map? You deserve a Strategy badge. When the wheels get rolling, your fic will definitely follow the plot! (Mostly.)
If planning ahead kills your rocket-powered pen and sucks the spontaneity out of your prose? Maybe you grab your keyboard with two hands and hit the ground running. Shout your battle cry when the writing starts! You deserve a Goongala! badge.

Here's my Intro Post!
Here's my Goals Post!
The NaNoWrimo (National Novel Writing Month) Writing Event for the entire TMNT Fandom!
November 1st - 30th
Set your own goal!
The traditional nanowrimo goal of 50k words in 30 days!
Or
Writing something of any amount every day for 30 days!
Or
Finish a specific fic or other WIP within the month!
Or
Set something else for your word count goal--like an RP, a Zine, or a Script!
YOU DO YOU!!
Use the '#TurtleWrimo 2025' or '#TurtleWrimo2025' hashtags when you post about it on your fandom spaces! Bluesky, Tumblr, Discord, etc.
Follow or search that hashtag to find writing buddies and build your own support circle of folks you vibe with! Be sure to use "read more" cuts and appropriate tags on any excerpts you post. It helps people filter or find your work!
Earning badges works on the Honor System. I'm gonna keep posting badges. You download and use the ones that apply to you!
No pressure, just mutual excitement for Turtles!
If you want to track your word counts, there's a free, no-advertisement, privacy-first website called TRACKBEAR that lets you enter your daily totals and builds you a graph! (https://trackbear.app/)
There's a TurtleWrimo 2025 LeaderBoard on TRACKBEAR you can join, so all our graphs display together! We can do it! Lookit us go!
Please note: There's no requirement to use the tracking website. I'm serious when I said this is run on the Honor System. You can jot your word count down on paper or in a personal spreadsheet and just yoink badges from me that match your progress. I'm never gonna check. Promise. "Participation" in this event is just writing stuff about turtles and talking about your Turtlewrimo writing and cheering for other people who are doing the same thing.
BONUS
No pressure to post your writing (though you're welcome to do so on your own platforms and spaces.) Save it to polish the work later or Send it out into the world immediately. Your choice!
DOUBLE BONUS
The suggested tracking site, TRACKBEAR, does not allow messaging between participants. The only people you talk to about your project will be from your own personal fandom spaces and with your own preferred filters. You can manage your own privacy levels while still being part of a fandom-wide event.
Great Questions from Participants answered here! (FAQ)
Sound good? Spread the word! And download badges to use in your posts that show you're up for the challenge.
The PARTICIPANT BADGES are ready for download & sharing now!
Which Turtles will you pick for fic?
Or maybe… You're not ready this year, and you'd just like to watch? No worries. I've got a badge for you too!
More badges coming soon!
I am not sponsored by TrackBear or anybody else. There's no prizes except the badge graphics, which are free and downloadable by anybody online. All images have alt text with TMNT-iteration-specific info. Love y'all. Love turtles.
