MCYT Queer Zine is an upcoming fanworks project dedicated to celebrating queerness in MCYT, whether that be through artwork, writing, or other forms of fan creation. Our goal is to highlight both canonical queerness in Minecraft roleplay and the ways that MCYT fans examine and deconstruct queerness.
What does it mean to celebrate queerness?
The zine will feature writing and artwork about queer characters, queer relationships, queerness as community, and anything else in the vast expanse of queerness and queer expression. If you're not sure where to start or whether what you're planning fits within the scope of the zine, talk to a mod!
What will the zine look like?
We're hoping to structure in the style of 1970s-1990s queer zines, with sections inspired by each color of the original rainbow pride flag created by Gilbert Baker, with eight colors in total, each with an associated theme/concept. These plans may change, fair warning, but we'd be happy to have more ideas from contributors as well!
What is expected from an artist?
Artists can create pieces based on individual characters or groups, whether that be a queer MCYT couple or all their favorite bisexual cubitos.
Currently art dimensions are roughly set at A4 or A5 (210mm by 297 mm for a spread) format. More details/final decisions will be shown on the discord for contributors to see.
What is expected from a writer?
Writers can create fic about individual characters or groups as well, including things like character studies and explorations of queer attraction.
We'll want to have at least one written piece per section, hopefully more than that, and fic will be expected to be between 1.k-3.5k words.
Poetry and other forms of written fanwork are allowed, though please discuss them with mods when pitching your piece(s).
Is collaboration allowed?
Yes! Encouraged, even! Writers and artists who want to collaborate can let the mods know, and some examples of collaboration would be writers creating fic of a scene an artist drew, or artists creating works based off scenes from a fic.
Yes! Relationships of various kinds are a significant component of queerness, including all those that form in queer community.
Is NSFW/18+ content allowed?
We will not be allowing any explicit sexual content (as in, no outright sex scenes); however, sex is an important facet of many queer people's lives, so brief mention/allusions to sex are not prohibited. If you're unsure if your piece(s) cross the line, contact a mod to discuss your options.
