His P.o.V.: You are here.
Chapter 2: http://myscandalinthespotlight.tumblr.com/post/136696369691/part-22-last-summer-revance-x-reader
I wonât tell her where Iâve been but she already knows.
Iori always hated people who were fake.
Ironic, because he was known for fooling others. He even fooled you, who he despised at first. To some extent, he still did.
You were so real â a direct contrast to him â and maybe thatâs why he fell for you. And yet, he also hated that about you. The more time he spent with you, the more he grew to despise you. You guys were anything but that âperfect coupleâ people thought you were. He was steering in the direction opposite of that and when he saw you and Takashi smile at each other that day, he broke.
She was nothing more than a pawn really; just some random chick he used to take his frustration out on. Two nights became three, and at some point, he just stopped trying to cover his tracks. Of course, the intent was for you to find out and you did, but to his surprise, you didnât say anything. Instead, with each tick of the clock, he saw you become less of who you were before and more of the person heâd always hated.
So could his hatred now be justified? Heâd hoped soâŠthat is, until he realized just how far gone you were.
If he hated women, you surely must have hated men now. Countless times, he saw another approach you. Each time, you turned them down.
At first, he thought it was out of obligation. You guys hadnât broken up yet, but the relationship was practically nonexistent now. Heâd even been chasing after others, but you continued to run from them. Why?
He began to observe you, and noticed you were still nice when turning the guys down but noted that you were also gradually becoming more guarded the more you were asked out. Your tone? He didnât understand how people continued to fall for it. Your smile? Nothing but a forced upturn of the lips. And your words: they were all lies.
Everything about you now was so fake, and was he really the only one who could see it?
And it didnât stop there. He began to see parts of himself in you too, and when Nagito congratulated the both of you for reaching the three-year mark in your relationship, you laughed. Anyone from the outside would think you were thanking your lucky stars, but he knew better. He knew what you were saying behind those carefree words. And when you turned that smile towards him, he knew that heâd broken you.
The pictures on my phoneâŠShe thought I wouldnât be coming home.
âIâm really sorry, [First],â Nagito apologizes again, âbut I canât come home tonight. Iâll make it up to you though, I promise. Some other night, okay?â
You end the call before he can say goodbye and it wouldnât have bothered him as much if he didnât make the mistake of swiping his thumb across the screen. Past the hundreds of pictures of his mistress was a picture he had long forgotten about. Itâs one of you and him during your first date, and he feels his heart suddenly lurch. At the same moment, a call beckoning him to come back to bed reminds him just where heâs at and what heâs been doing. He doesnât think twice about looking back and dashes out the door.
He had every intention of telling you the truth and promised himself that he would do whatever it took to gain your forgiveness.
He just didnât think he could be too late.
Youâre kneeling by the fireplace when he reaches the back door and heâs about to call out to you when he sees what youâre holding.
In your hands is the book that the two of you created together: a book full of memories. From the time that the two of you got together to just a couple of months ago, that book contained every little thing, every single thought, and every feeling that was ever shared between you two. It contained everything that made up you and him, and he found himself praying that you werenât doing what he thinks youâre about to do.
But the minute that book touches the flames, you turn away. Whatâs worse is when you step away without bothering to look back. He stares at your retreating form until you close the door behind you, and, not believing what just happened, he turns back to look at the book, or whatâs left of it.
The same picture heâs saved on his phone is the last picture to burn, but it seems as though fate wants to mock him. A spark of flame lands where your hands touch and the pictures splits in two, tearing the two of you apart.
Nagito swears the same thing is happening to his heart, and he drops to his knees, berating himself for chasing away the one person he could call home.
Itâs tearing her apart â Iâm slipping away.
âYou are always like this! Whenever youâre under a little stress, you freak out and act likeâŠthat!â he gestures at you with his hands, and you feel your face turn red.
âThen why are we still together? Why donât we just break up?â you yell the first thing that comes to mind before it even registers. Kyohei falters for a fraction of a second before his glare returns and he turns so that his back is facing you.
âIâm not dealing with this right now,â he claims and you shake your head, the tears flowing freely now.
âThatâs just like you,â you grimace, âAlways running awayâŠâ From me. But he doesnât hear that last part. Heâs already closed the door.
He was beyond frustrated, mad even. Who did you think you were, calling him a coward? Last he checked, he always took care of the problem even before it could pose itself as a threat.
He runs his fingers through his hair and sighs audibly. Itâs enough to catch everybodyâs attention, or rather, someoneâs attention.
âHard day?â he looks up to see a girl whoâs everything youâre not, or physically anyway. The worry in her voice is certainly reminiscent of yours.
âTell me about it,â he mumbles, hoping sheâd just go away. But she doesnât and he ends up staying with her a lot longer than he initially thought he would.
â[First]âŠâ He didnât, couldnât look you in the eye right now. He knew you were probably bawling your eyes out by now and your crying self was something he was always weak against.
ActuallyâŠeverything about her makes me weakâŠbut that doesnât mean I hate it. I donât hate her. I want to protect her. I want toâŠlove her.
He finds the courage to look at you and is about to tell you how he really feels but the resolute look in your eyes shocks him into momentary silence.
It was only for a second, but that was more than enough time for you.
âLetâs break upâŠokay?â
That last smile he saw on your face broke him completely. Never before had you looked so defeatedâŠsoâŠdamaged.
âYouâre the only one for me. Donât you ever doubt yourself.â He recalls his own words that he had repeated over and over to you, but who was he to tell you that?
He had broken you beyond repair and was certain you could never be fixed again.
When I look her in the eyes, I know theyâre not as bright.
He knew it was childish, but he didnât know how else to handle the situation. Seeing you and Kota so close hurt and at the time, he thought that getting back at you would make things even.
He found her, but he never felt anything for her.
Ironic, because she looked like you. She even acted like you and for a while, he even pretended that she was you.
But he just couldnât feel anything.
And when he realized that it was because she wasnât you, he told her to leave and never come back. He was disgusted with himself for allowing his jealousy to dictate such actions, but still, he couldnât find the courage to face you.
But that was his biggest mistake.
You had somehow found out about his affair and when you tried to confront him about it, he ran away. He shut himself away in the recording room, turning up the music to tune you out.
After a while, you gave up trying to talk to him and a couple of days later you gave it up for good.
âI just wanted you to know that weâre done. Alright?â you had said.
He didnât respond. He didnât want to. He wanted to pretend that this conversation, and everything that happened over the last couple of months, was just a bad dream. He wanted it to all go away.
âLook at me, Taka,â your voice was quiet, coaxing almost. For a second, it seemed like everything was going to be okay again, but he knew that if he looked at you, everything would fall apart.
So he refused to do it. He didnât want to see your eyes so empty, so devoid. He hated not finding himself in your eyes, and he knew that if he looked, thatâs what he would find. Nothing.
You sigh, and he feels his heart start to drum against his chest.
âLetâs let everything go back to normal between us, okay Takashi?â
When you donât use his nickname and when you walk away from him, he canât stop the tears from falling. He knows that youâll never look at him with that loving gaze again, and thatâs what hurt the most.
I know she loved me at one time, but I broke my promise to her that night.
He knew you loved him, but he was sick of it. You were always there and having someone worry about him constantly wasnât something he was used to. He wanted to get away from it all and the one night he went out was the one night that would ruin it all.
It had been three months maybe since the affair started and today was just like any other day. Heâd come up with some excuse to get out of the house and meet up with her.
It wasnât like he didnât see the disappointed look on your face. You were so easy to read, and it was so annoying sometimes. He knew you wanted him to stay. He knew you wanted him to tell you that what you suspected was all a lie. He knew that you wanted him to tell you that he loved you.
But he couldnât, and he left without looking back. He can hear you crying, but he canât bring himself to care.
You were suffocating him and he needed some air.
âHey Kota, I was thinking maybe next week, we could-â
âKota, I need to tell you s-!â he hears both voices get cut off, but his gaze falls on you rather than the girl who has her hand interwoven with his. He sees your eyes widen when you see that, and admittedly, he begins to panic a bit. He refuses to show it though, and opts for saying your name in as professional a voice as he can muster.
Your face is wiped clean of any emotion, but he can definitely tell one thing youâre thinking.
He knows that you think he doesnât love you anymore.
âIâm sorry for interrupting,â you apologize to the girl, notably avoiding eye contact with him. âI just needed to tell Kota that Kyoheiâs planning to give him the day off a week from tomorrow.â
âO-oh! No problem!â the girlâs oblivious smile makes Kotaâs insides churn. Your voice only rubs more salt in the wound.
âWell then, Iâll be off. I hope you both enjoy your date.â
Youâve rounded the corner before he can even say anything and can only continue to stare after you as his date begins making plans for the cherry blossoming event that takes place the day that âKyoheiâ gave him off.
Somewhere in his mind, he recalls that you had been planning to see the flowers bloom with him, but thatâs obviously not happening anymore. And when it sinks in that you had just broken up with him, he tells her that heâs not feeling well and rushes home. You donât even look at him or bother trying to listen to his apologies and instead run upstairs, locking the door behind you.
He doesnât see you again until the day of the event. The familiar blonde that plucks the petal from your hair manages to make you smile a smile that he hasnât seen in what seemed to be ages, and he suddenly feels an ache in his chest.
And thatâs when he realizes that he was feeling what you had been feeling for the past three monthsâŠ
It really did hurt, knowing that you didnât love him anymore.
âYou had a âMy P.o.V.â version too?â
You blush, trying to avoid eye contact at having been found out. Youâd meant to throw those away, (considering how embarrassing it was that you based the heroine off of how you believed you would react in that sort of situation) but when he dragged you back to your room to have a word with youâŠwell, letâs just say it was too late.
âI know I asked before, but Iâll ask again and I expect an answer this time. Have you been feeling that insecure?â
âNo!â you shout, accidentally meeting his gaze. âItâs just I wanted these lyrics to be perfect, you know?â
His raised eyebrow obviously means he doesnât understand, so you try to emphasize.
âAs a screenwriter, I need to have all bases covered, including the untold backstory. People want to know why their partners cheat or what theyâre thinking when they cheat, and IâŠâ
âOkay, I get it,â he scratches the back of his neck uncomfortably, âItâs justâŠI really hope you donât see me that way. ItâŠworries me a little.â
You blink before bursting into laughter.
âItâs not funny!â he glares but his pink cheeks only cause you to giggle more. His pout only prompts you to lean forward and peck him on the lips and you pull back, holding his hand in yours.
âI love you, too,â you convey the feeling with a squeeze of his fingers. Heâs still embarrassed, but when he squeezes your fingers back, you both know that thereâs nothing to worry about.
âAlthoughâŠâ when you look at him again, the evil grin on his face has you squirming away from him. He doesnât let you go and instead leans in so that you can feel his breath on your ear. âI think you need to be punished.â
You gulp, whimpering a bit when he pulls you by the hand and leads you to a very familiar room.
