Notice: not only do your friends actually like you, they secretly like you twice as much as they let on
An experience that made me feel much more assured in my friendships was at college, a friend and myself were talking about a third friend of ours and how cool and knowledgeable and smart she is and how we feel like we could never be that cool. The next day I was working with a professor on some paper presentations we were about to have and when I came out of the staff room I was informed that these two aforementioned friends were having the same discussion about me. And it turns out we spent a lot of time thinking about our friends who aren’t currently in the room and gushing over how cool and smart and talented they are without being able to say all of it to their face.
Your friends secretly love you a lot more than they already express, just like you love them so intensely that saying it all to their faces would sound clumsy to your own ears. It’s true though
I’ve had more than one friend say “no, listen to me for one second: you are literally and actually one of my favorite people, I enjoy your presence in my life” and if that won’t rock a foundation …
It’s so good to be loved.
“Loved” is something I take for granted, but “one of my favorite people” is like. Oh surely not. I mean there are so many other people? And I’m just. Me
recently I was on a dance floor where 3 friends were lamenting that someone wasn’t there, saying how incredible she is, totally unique, irreplaceable gem of a person, and I remember thinking “it’s such a shame that she never hears these conversations where everyone admits how obsessed with her they are” and then I thought, the same situation is probably true for everyone
happy pride month to all lesbians who are incredibly smart but suck at giving impromptu speeches, homicidal suburban heterosexuals being impersonated by their lesbian clones, gay men roped into helping their foster sisters not get kidnapped and murdered by an evil biotech corporation, bisexual scientists in love with their subjects, trans men who do crime and think nothing of meeting their genetic identicals, and, most importantly, all the queer people who had their queer awakening while watching orphan black (2013-2017)
[image description: Orphan Black gifset. Cosima, dressed as Alison in a pink t-shirt that says “Elect Alison Hendrix”, stands at a podium and says, “As a lesbian…” Felix rolls his eyes backstage, and people in the crowd look around awkwardly. Cosima-as-Alison continues, “…supporter…” End ID]
Whenever I hear someone say "the woke mob" I have to stop myself from laughing because even today all I can think of is this fucking tweet
Happy Pride to the Woke Mob

Happy Pride Month!
Holy shit!!!!!!! HUNGARY DID IT!!!!

in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
As summer is approaching, I’d like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I don’t care if they’re big, I don’t care if they’re noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You can’t police people’s bodies.
This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
in addition, before commenting on any fat person's body or treating them differently because they're fat you can and should just mind your own fucking business instead!
yes especially when they're dressed for warm weather.
fat people are one of the primary targets of body policing and their harassment etc is virtually always justified with ableism.
yeah it’s a big fuckin’ mystery alright
The bipartisan push to remove anonymity from the internet is ushering in an era of unprecedented mass surveillance and censorship.
"The problem is that there’s no way to reliably verify someone’s age without verifying who they are. A platform cannot magically discern that a user is 16 without collecting identifying information, whether through government documents such as a passport, payment information like a credit card, or other identity-disclosing data. Whether that data is stored by the platform itself or outsourced to a vendor, the result is always the same: A user’s offline identity is forever linked with their online behavior.
Stripping anonymity from the internet would constitute one of the most sweeping rollbacks of civil rights in recent history. It would allow for unprecedented levels of mass surveillance and censorship, endangering the most marginalized members of society. Whistleblowers exposing corporate wrongdoing could be tracked and fired, government employees speaking out about illegal behavior or bad policies could face prosecution, and activists organizing protests could be identified and surveilled before ever setting foot on the street."
And this is exactly the kind of thing US lawmakers will decide for US citizens, and it will effect everyone who uses the internet globally. Already any kind of age verification amounts to "hand over your government identification to a private US corporation".
I dont know what solutions might be on a broader scale, but its absurd for one country to have this much power and for their private corporations to be handed this amount of authority from literally world governments demanding "safety for children". This power structure is absurd.
Yall USians have got to shut down all this bullshit, youre the ones who vote these people in and out. Theyre not gonna give a shit what foreigners have to say.
This kind of legislation is in the interests both of massive corporations, who think they can squeeze a little more money out of you by monitoring every moment of your life, and the political interests who think vulnerable groups need to be taught their place in a white supremacist, eugenic vision of the world, by being made even more vulnerable to deportation, mass incarceration (and I'm including in this list the concentration camps already being built to incarcerate people living unhoused and people deemed "mentally ill"), as well as outright lynching.
As facism grows more ascendant globally, fighting for privacy is increasingly urgent and crucial in every single other important cause.
If you want to protect any vulnerable people at all, clawing back privacy however and whenever we can is going to have to be part of that protection.
this is actually not as good idea as it seems on the surface. making things that last is a good idea. necessary, actually. but using old patents from vintage appliances is not the best way to go about this as those things were not designed to be energy efficient (or water efficient in the case of appliances that need water.) not to mention all the heavy metals and forever chemicals in all that shit. most of that stuff was designed before they knew lead and asbestos and even radiation was bad for us.
what you need is not to look to the past (in america at least) but to look towards better ideas—maybe some ideas invented outside of capitalism. like, for example, modular appliances where the part within the appliance that is mostly likely to wear out is very easily replaceable so that you can easily replace that one part instead of throwing the whole thing out and buying a new one. easy repairs needs to become the norm, whether you repair it yourself or hire someone to do so, things should not only be repairable, but as easily repairable as possible with available schematics and whatnot to facilitate that.
obviously, making things that last should be priority. this can be done when human beings realize that landfills aren't just filled with wasted material resources but all the wasted labour and energy that went into processing/manufacturing/transporting those material resources. this can be done when the purpose of making something isn't to sell it in ever-increasing amounts forever.

Being smart enough to know when to consult and listen to someone more knowledgeable is in fact quite smart! Many humans cannot manage this!
“Rich kids should go to public schools. The mayor should ride the subway to work. When wealthy people get sick, they should be sent to public hospitals. Business executives should have to stand in the same airport security lines as everyone else. The very fact that people want to buy their way out of all of these experiences points to the reason why they shouldn’t be able to. Private schools and private limos and private doctors and private security are all pressure release valves that eliminate the friction that would cause powerful people to call for all of these bad things to get better. The degree to which we allow the rich to insulate themselves from the unpleasant reality that others are forced to experience is directly related to how long that reality is allowed to stay unpleasant. When they are left with no other option, rich people will force improvement in public systems. Their public spirit will be infinitely less urgent when they are contemplating these things from afar than when they are sitting in a hot ER waiting room for six hours themselves.”

My liege im sorry to break it to you but your advisor that's actually evil and wants you dead turned out to be straight. I know you really wanted to have an enemies to lovers situation with him. Yeah I'm afraid the poisoning didn't hold any romantic intent behind it. The king of the enemy kingdom is bisexual though, I could send him a letter? Yes, I'll make sure to include multiple threats of homoerotic nature. You will have your toxic yaoi, my liege
thinking about that one wordless calvin and hobbes sunday strip thats just calvins dad ditching his work to go play in the snow... its going to make me cry
ohhhh my god
”#I LOVE that the comic keeps the lens on Calvin’s dad to the degree of not even showing Calvin’s excited face when his dad surprises him, #You can see the joy and excitement of the moment in his pose and reflected in his dad’s expression, #it’s a great little artistic decision, #I realized what gets me about it it’s the hat covering his dad’s head and hair so the dad just looks like Calvin. #you don’t HAVE to show Calvin! You already see him in the dad becoming a kid for a moment you only have to draw that once”
I was told that I’d get used to not having a headphone jack. I still want a fucking headphone jack. I hate that phones don’t have them. It’s stupid and awful and I hate it
