You know what I realised last night? Mat's phrase 'it's time to toss the dice' is a fucking Julius Caesar reference. Caesar was one of the all-time top generals/tacticians in the Roman army, he was so good at it that he got away with calling himself 'Caesar' (basically founding the empire). And one of the phrases attributed to him is translates as 'the dice have been tossed'. I could be reading too much into this, but with the whole Arthur Hawkwing/King Arthur parallels I don't think so.
That’s really cool! I’m sure you’re right; given the number of references to basically every mythology and history ever (and that’s considering that I miss probably over half the historical ones…), it would not surprise me in the slightest if Jordan borrowed Caesar’s catchphrase.
Also given Mat’s connections to the likely future Empress, a Caesar reference would not be at all out of place…
Another Caesar quote that might add another connection. "Luck follows my strongest battalions."
A Quick (but ultimately unexciting) Update from Brandon
I spent some time with Harriet and Team Jordan last month during a visit to Charleston for a writing conference. There were two things I wanted to clear up for you all.
The first is regarding the film rights to the Wheel of Time. A lot of people have been asking, and while I’m no longer the steward of Randland as I once was, I’m at least steward emeritus. So I try to look out for you all when I can.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get very much for you. As you probably know, a pilot of a Wheel of Time television show was released in February. This was what they call in the industry an “Ashcan.” It was a quick exploitation of the rights to a property before those rights lapse, an act usually done because a contract includes a stipulation allowing a production company to maintain control of a property as long as they release something on television or in the theaters every five years or so.
The producers call this a “proof of concept” that a television show could work. Team Jordan calls this a violation of the contract. Both ended up suing each other, and both dropped the lawsuits this summer.
Well, the official word from Team Jordan is that “Negotiations are ongoing.” Nothing is settled, they’ve just moved their discussions out of court.
In more interesting news, I asked if there was ever going to be a time when I could reveal things from the books that are unresolved. (Nakomi is the big one, but there are a few secrets that the fans haven’t figured out yet.)
The word from Team Jordan was that they can foresee a time when these things could be revealed, though that time is not now. (Or soon.) I don’t have to take the secret to my grave, then.
There was also interest in someday doing a re-integrated ebook of the last three books, where I weave the chapters back the way they were originally planned (eliminating things like the timeline confusion in Towers.) I think a special edition 2000+ page version of A Memory of Light would be a cool project.
As for some of the things you haven’t picked up on, there is at least one large one, but I did a lot of misdirection on it (because the attention to detail from fans is very impressive, and I didn’t want this one cracked quickly.) So there’s not a ton of evidence for it. You have to know the characters, the rules of the world, and posit something that will probably sound obvious once you realize it is true–but which isn’t manifest in the text.
However, it is major, and kind of a bombshell. I’ve been warned not to say anything, as everyone is a little worried that fans will smell blood and rip it out of me before the time is right.
I should note that while nobody has asked me anything remotely close to being about this, I don’t follow all of the theory threads, so it’s possible the theory is out there and I just haven’t seen it.
It is relating to AMoL and the Forsaken.
What you have to understand is that the notes, outlines, and stories belong to Harriet–and not to me. In her case, keeping back secrets is because she believes (and I think correctly) that Robert Jordan would want to encourage fan discussion of these secrets into the future, allowing them to keep imagining what might happen. Giving it away now would be a little like Willie Wonka telling everyone exactly which chocolate bars contain the golden tickets.
But as to “Why” they own the rights, I would have thought it would be intuitive. If I were to go to Lucas Arts, write a book for them, then come back and tell everyone the plots of the next four Star Wars movies, you don’t think Lucas Arts would have the right to be angry? Even if there was an idea not used in the films, it’s THEIR idea–to be released if they want to, or to not. Maybe they want to keep it for a potential film in the future, or maybe they feel it undermines part of the released story, and don’t want people fixating on it.

Does anyone else imagine the seanchan as basically a Japanese empire? I mean they pretty much have samurai armour, they shave different a parts of their heads, and are obsessed with hierarchy.
I regularly forget that The Path Of Daggers exists.
A sketch of everyone’s favorite suffering artist. I strive every day to capture Asmodean’s ennui XD
The Dark One: yes, I love all my Forsaken. Daughter of the Night, Betrayer of Hope, Promise of Pain, and *looks at smudged writing on hand* musician
Fantasy artwork by the late and great Darrell K. Sweet.
As much as I love the ending to Wheel of Time it still leaves like 3 major questions to be answered; What the hell was Rand channeling after the Last Battle, how will Aviendha stop the future she saw, and what about the still real Seanchan threat.
My ideas: A: He was somehow touching the pattern, kind of like in the world of dreams. He gained he ability to manipulate reality after the battle with the dark one. B: she already has, by including the Aiel in the Dragons Peace, thus giving them a reason to exist. C: I really don't know about this one. I made the same point a while back. The popular view seems to be that they have to go an sort out there own continent, so arnt that big of a threat.

Wheel of Time like
*an event that happened in book 1-6*
Oh yes, I remember the exact book, chapter, and point of view this happened in. Give me three minutes and I can find the exact scene you’re talking about.
*an event that happened book 7-11*
that happened…..in one of these books right? or was it in ALL of these books…. hmmmm….
*an event that happened book 12-14*
I CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THAT PAGE IS STILL DAMP WITH TEAR STAINS
This is the truest shit.
One more dance along the razor’s edge finished. Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today.
Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time. (via monocintern)
Perrin “Time to Rescue Someone From the Whitecloaks” Aybara. Mat “By the Light this is the Opposite of What I Wanted to Do With My Day” Cauthon. Rand “Every Day of My Life is Stressful” al'Thor.
Rereading Eye of the World is a weird experience because everyone(well, apart from Mo and Lan) is so helpless like no one can even channel or use a weapon and they all have the social tact of well, country bumpkins and its so weird and absolutely ADORABLE tbh
I was literally just thinking about this, like in the Eye Of The World there running away from a couple of fists of trollocs and like one fade. Then by end of the series like there frying thousands at a time and not giving a fuck.
AMOL Thoughts (spoilers
So at the very end of a AMOL Rand realises he is no longer Ta'veren. Does anyone know why? Is it because his task is finished? Or is it because he switched bodies?
If it’s the first one then one can conclude that Matt and Perrin are no longer Ta'veren ether. Then does that mean that Matt looses his luck?
Any thoughts would be awesome
The patterns spins people into ta'veren when and as they’re needed; they are created rather than born. So since they accomplished their purpose, the pattern spun them into being normal folks again.
Inasmuch as those three could be considered normal.
But then Mats left in much worse shape than the others. I mean Perrins pretty much invincible now and Rand gets new world bending powers. But surly mat looses his luck, making him still a great general but with no where near as powerful as he was.

–Anonymous fragment of a poem believed written near the end of the previous Age, known by some as the Third Age.
Sometimes attributed to the Dragon Reborn.
This is beautiful, But I call bullshit there’s no way Rand could write that.
So who did? An Asha'man? I don’t see Logain or Taim writing that either… Any guesses?
OBVIOUSLY IT WAS ANDROL BECAUSE ANDROL IS THE BEST AT EVERYTHING EVEN THOUGH PEOPLE CANNOT SEE THAT
Wonderful.
“Yeah, I was a poet in tear for a few years, did I not mention it?”
Androl probably.
